@tarryugang kavakos is using a more russian style of bow grip, resulting in more power, but less subtlety. Heifetz used and taught the same style of bow grip.
haaa que maravilla,,,,,GRACIAS a Dios que existe youtube, sino nunca me hubiera enterado que existia este violinista tan maravilloso,,,,bravoooo Kavakos¡¡¡
I was there that evening at the Verbier concert and although I don't really enjoy Sibelius the sound of this violin knocked me off the seat - so rich and warm you have to hear it played live!!! Of course Kavakos IS a great artist, not his fault Sibelius was so short on structure and harmonies, me - I prefer Brahms (so sue me ha-ha)
Dont steal my ideas!! ALMOST MISSED is MINE!! Sorry about DE spelling! Som taims I wgrith to phast an meik misteiqs! And Im not getting payed for it anyway. Leonidas should improve his technic. I dont want to see him almost-missing a flageolette again! Otherwise,he would end playing like Heifetz!
I attended his concert on Sunday at the Atlanta Symphony Hall. Live, Mr.Kavakos will leave you on the edge of your seat as he takes your breath away. He plays with such conviction and passion and has the ability to hold "impossible" harmonics. For me, it was better than "chocolate"!
he plays much better alone. This man is too fast to be slowed down by an orchestra. hahahahaa Greatest Paganini player I have EVER heard, but sibelius needs more room to breath between notes.
Its expressionistic qualities get lost at such a speed. Still think Vengerov's version works the best for me. I SAID FOR ME!!!
I literally disagree entirely; for me the final movement has this fantastic driving quality in the lower strings, almost constantly pushing it forwards and so it has to go fast and be unrelenting. I love Kavakos' performance, but think Heifetz suits this piece down to the ground. His 1936 performance is mercilessly fast and technically perfect. I almost think that the emotion in this plays itself, particularly in the first movement.
That's alright. I believe we can all agree though that thankfully, there is no copyright insanity going on here. Different performer with different orchestra's under the guidance of different conductors, so we all can have a favourite performance,
not the best sibelius

@muslit ironic how he won the sibelius competition

@muslit the best depends on your taste!
at the same time you could at least say that, one of the best sibelius... think positive man...

Tremendous! The huge octave leaps at the end are so fluid that you hardly notice how hard it is!

Still Christian Ferras bring that last emotion of "inner self". He is still my number one performance on the Sibelius violin concerto.
Butl very good performance by Kavakos. Number 2-3 on my Sibelius list!
