hi buddy, the xbox looks great,i am thinking about buying a broken xbox hd dvd for the case and putting the drive on top of the xbox then i can put a fan on top of the gpu.did you have to remove the legs to get it in the caddy and how did you affix the front and eject button on the xbox without the drive inside.
Shot works great! I'm in the process of doin this mod for fun on a pawn shop rrod. I've only done the mock up but so far spot on tempwise. Bravo, Looks great.
Hey guys below me remember a long ass time ago when microsoft said the console was going to be water cooled? What was that,2003,2004??? They failed that one.
YES!! that stuff is amazing! use it for pc case mods for mounting windows. we used it to hold my bros sorta guitar decoration and it held for about a year b4 if fell in the middle of the night.
How would I do that when I only press the 360 eject? The 360 drive is in the HD caddy via an extended sata cable and a hand made extended power cable. I've been air and water cooling pc's for around 5 years now for various magazines. It was just a simple step to remove the drive for better GPU cooling. After all, you don't buy a high end PC graphics card, without a cooling fan. Why should the 360 be any different? It seems that MS have different opinions!
Yes......you are right.......SORRY.....that's the reason that there is and a fan up from the place where normally is the DVD drive...Right??? Anyway, you rock and you really have great ideas to improve cooling......... but sadly Microsoft could have better ideas...............
I bought a second hand 360 for £20. I tore it open since the DVD-ROM drive is knackered anyway. I have an original 1 generation Xbox 360 and I, too completely disagree with the configuration of the innards.
I plan to make the DVD-ROM drive external simply for more ease of use and to isolate its jet engine like noise. Do any SATA connectors work on the DVD-ROM? Can you instruct me on how you made a power-cable extension or is it really that simple? Thanks for your time, I really appreciate it.
@antandshar Hey man, put a video tutorial , i wanna do same for my jtag, wanna fans inside the xbox, because outside it suck b@!!$, its very tastefully looking xbox
Hi, the fans are connected to a standard PC psu with it's own on/off switch. I wired it internally to run without a mobo and cut off all the wires not needed. (just left 2 molex connectors) Fans are 12v.
i need some help could i install a Zalman (ZM-F3) 120mm fan in my 360 like for the back part where the cables go? or will i need a different type of fan?
Are you using the disc drive at all? or is that fan just blowing in air over the disc drive? I was thinking an 80 mm fan above the CPU...but started looking for ideas over the GPU. THat looks very clean mad props for doing it right!
Of course he had to take it apart... He was asking how he fit them into the case. Thing is, he DIDNT until he removed the DVD drive and put it into an HD-DVD drive case. That's why you see the game in the HD drive
I'm speechless... That is a hella good cooling mod dude, i just wish the dvd drive could have remained inside the main case. That 360 will stay frosty lol
no because it would be pointless because the dvd drive sits ontop of the gpu heatsinks, even if you managed to fin fans ontop of the drive it would only cool the drive
what did you do with the stock fan shroud, did you remover it too? how about the rear stock fan, still intact?can you tell me a site to learn how to lengthen the dvd drive cables. I want your mod man, really, I had been thinking doing as you did long time ago, but my problem is the short dvd cables.I really want to take that dvd drive out of the box.there is no good cooling mod that can be done witht that thing sitting right on top of a burning GPU heatsink.
Hi, Click the link to my picsite near the "subscribe" tab to the right of my video. This will give you a good idea of what i've done. I did remove the fan shroud and left the stock fans running to remove the air the 120mm fans push in. All i did to lengthen the cables was to buy some wire the same as the wire which the fans use. Splice these into the power wires ONE AT A TIME, as not to get mixed up. I just twisted them togetherand used electrical tape.
I have seen the pictures, what do you call that red wire connector of the dvd drive, where di you get that?great mod man, I really like what you did,my only problem doing it too is how to get those cables hehe
im gonna use a rocker on/off switch to rig mine, (Dremil the back) to neatly cut out a section to put it..u know one of them ATX PSU lil black on and off switch. that's what im gonna use to power my fans along with the 3 prong power cable socket like what is use in desktops
Ok antandshar, i got the fans, i didnt get my hands on one of em Hd player shell ..not yet..but the wires...not the red sata..but the other 1 ..whats it called and what can i use to lengthen it (the white wire on the cdrom that u used)
how did you do the black rubber around the circles. And where can i get a hd-dvd shell. i also have the old cpu heatsink , how do i shorten that one? thanks dude.

Your window with the fans makes me want to draw a smiley face. You should get a custom paint job, if you find somebody within your family that likes painting they could probably do it cheap or free. Just an idea though.
Dude! Super Nice! remove the dvd drive is genius! cuz thats sitting on top of the gpu heat sink. after my warranty expired i'll mod mine according to urs XD
That's the whole point of modding, to change it from stock to something different. Having the dvd drive in the caddy was a small price to pay for excellent cooling and the removal of the 3 red lights problem.
Hi, I removed the dvd from the 360 and put it in a 360 HD/DVD caddy after buying a 2ft sata cable and extending the power cable. I then cut down the cpu H/sink by 1" and that gave me the room for the fans. Check my pics at the site listed to the right of my vid and see what you think.

This is the only way (other than water cooling) to fix an Xbox (first few generations).
I have a similar setup, although not as pretty because after fixing it i no long feel like its worth the investment in time.
