This is old news. The "bug" has been fixed in the Phenom II. It seems to be flawless. I'm running on one right now. BTW I don't like the obnoxious music. I had to mute it.

I don't like injustice of any kind. So why can't AMD chips get equality in the review stakes. ? It's so unfair that the reviews of 90% of Intel i7 930 vs AMD Thuban reviews are skewed in favour of intel and their design.
The only place doing equality reviews seems to be Tom's hardware. Which shows that the Thuban is a match for the i7 930 (a great chip by the way).
The people talking like they have money and have a 2600k with 16gb of ram and laughing at amd owners for not spending the extra hundred bucks for an un-upgradable processor, are always the ones with no vids, no links to there build, skateboard and prank videos in there profile, and probaly typing from the dads 2005 model core 2 duo. You also compared two different generations. The Phenom and Core 2 Duo cant be compared, if anything you should compare the Core 2 Duo and the Phenom II (Both second Generation). Then compare the Core Duo with he Phenom (First Generation).
The reason its sold as an x3 is the cause of a faulty core, an x4 has 4 stable cores. Do your research...

@YourComputerExpert Until the i-Series (and I've asked plenty of professionals this in casual conversation), AMD was the bomb. For tasks involving media and more specifically gaming, at least. Then i3-i7 came out and there really is no competition with that.
That said, I have used my Phenon II Quad Core plenty of times, clocked and overclocked it. I had to tap both cores so that it was two and two just to play Fallout (sort of proof that there really isn't a faulty core) and x4 on WoW just fine

The real problem is that the creator fails to realize that x4s mean that ALL cores are stable, x3 means 3 cores are stable and the unstable 4th core is locked, and that x2 means 2 cores are stable and 2 unstable ones are locked.

You do realize how common this is right? For AMD to over produce or make slightly defective Quad core processors, and then lock 2 cores to make it dual core processor? The cheaper phenoms have faulty cores.
These cores are DISABLED.
I bought a Phenom II x4 840 3.2ghz Deneb.
This processor was manufactured with 6 cores, but one or both of those were faulty, so it was recycled and these cores were disabled.
One may thru some method I do not yet know re-enable these cores, however this is highly unstable.

You also compared two different generations. The Phenom and Core 2 Duo cant be compared, if anything you should compare the Core 2 Duo and the Phenom II (Both second Generation). Then compare the Core Duo with he Phenom (First Generation).
The reason its sold as an x3 is the cause of a faulty core, an x4 has 4 stable cores. Do your research...

@jacketnipple I meant flexible/upgradeable. never mentioned about ram there. intel is just not as upgradeable/sidegradeable as amd is. Say for example, you got an lga 1366, then by the end of the year you get excited about a new cpu, but hey that cpu needs lga 2011.

@YourComputerExpert Until the i-Series (and I've asked plenty of professionals this in casual conversation), AMD was the bomb. For tasks involving media and more specifically gaming, at least. Then i3-i7 came out and there really is no competition with that.
That said, I have used my Phenon II Quad Core plenty of times, clocked and overclocked it. I had to tap both cores so that it was two and two just to play Fallout (sort of proof that there really isn't a faulty core) and x4 on WoW just fine

I'm on my 4th AMD computer in over 20 years and they have all been awesome!!
No problems at all with AMD.
The 3 core chips are fantastic because you can unlock the 4th core and get a far better chip for your money. No need to though because you don't get ripped off like you do with ser-pentiums

The real problem is that the creator fails to realize that x4s mean that ALL cores are stable, x3 means 3 cores are stable and the unstable 4th core is locked, and that x2 means 2 cores are stable and 2 unstable ones are locked.

You do realize how common this is right? For AMD to over produce or make slightly defective Quad core processors, and then lock 2 cores to make it dual core processor? The greatest part about this is that if you're lucky, you'll buy a dual core, unlock the other 2 cores and get yourself a free quad core.

Also the x3 now @ $75 still an awesome deal even with a faulty core not to mention - if the core functions properly it can be unlocked which means you get a quad core CPU dirt cheap!! Im not even gonna mention the overclocking capabilities of the phenom series @ 4ghz can outperform every i7 CPU on the market!!

i have amd phenom ii X2 550 3.1Ghz processor i jst had unlock my cores x2 to x4 but its not working properly after updating the x4 entirely system was hanging like idol within few minutes. That's why i could tried to make it 3 cores using with msconfig-advanced option-number of processors=3. working awesome, but i want x4 processor instead of 3cores..

i have an AMD x2 Am3 with a ECS 875 Black series Mother board ... i've Played so much diferents games. never i have any problem... is very important the Mother board chipset. more than a processor clock speeds. my Ecs 875 am3 motherboar are included ATI radeon graphics shared 512 mb and run faster whit any actual game. what's up ... if I buy an ATI radeon crossfire Graphic card... yeah much better..

@sry0aka404notfound Well... it depends on what you define as "better" i mean i could spend £300 on an intel CPU and get a good performance out of it... but at the same time i could get a £150 AMD and spend a bit under £100 and cooling then overclock to to outperform the intel hands down. Intels are better out of the box although with work an AMD processor will have more potential (they are also cheaper)

I spent 400 bucks on a high end core i7 cpu no money left for mobo. spent 400 bucks on a high end phenom quad core + a mobo + memory+HDD and I was still able to play witcher 2 with a 5870 gpu at ultra setting 40fps.
