Don't trust politicians telling us we need to become a republic to be proud. It is actually the global elites trojan horse for Australia. They have great influence on our leaders and their goal is to carve the world up into economic regions (just look at Europe and lookup North American Union) and then rule those regions by a centralised world government. The republic is nothing more than an idea to break from our heritage to set Australia up for the Australasian Union.
I really don't see any need for a Republic, mostly because the current system is so successful. We aren't restricted in any way, in fact we gain benefits, even if they are minor, by being part of the Commonwealth. Australia must have its own head of state: "The US is Australia's fifth biggest export market, behind Japan, China, South Korea and India." Forty years ago it was UK. Then the UK joined the EU, giving hapless Australian exporters five years to "get used to it." Bye Bye English. They don't (and never did) care about Australia. One big factor here mate is back some years ago they had a referendum for becoming a republic, the referendum was initiated by the party that was pro commonwealth in the face of republicans (who lost). Kevin Rudds' party is pro republic obviously and he is not interested in putting it to referendum (ie he has decided he wants to put the wheels in motion) making it HIS decision not the peoples. That's not democracy. I like Rudd but he should put it to the people to decide, not to his own opinion.

Don't trust politicians telling us we need to become a republic to be proud. It is actually the global elites trojan horse for Australia. They have great influence on our leaders and their goal is to carve the world up into economic regions (just look at Europe and lookup North American Union) and then rule those regions by a centralised world government. The republic is nothing more than an idea to break from our heritage to set Australia up for the Australasian Union.

I really don't see any need for a Republic, mostly because the current system is so successful. We aren't restricted in any way, in fact we gain benefits, even if they are minor, by being part of the Commonwealth. I just don't see any reason for change or spending money unless we somehow manage to get a despotic monarch in power as this video says. My view is not loyalty to some distant queen, it's really more a practical view with regards to success of our current system.

i'm not an aussie, so it doesn't really affect me either way. but for all you australians that are advocating republicanism, what out and out benefits will you gain? face it, this abandonment of the constitutional monarchy has nothing to do with economic/social/political benefits and everything to do with your dislike of british (specifically english) people. if england and australia weren't, for example, such fierce sporting rivals, i doubt the average australian would give a toss about...

Did Kevin Rudd just say he will work towards Australia becoming a republic because he is a republican? IT'S NOT HIS FUCKING CHOICE! It is the say of the Australian people. But I think Rudd believes he some how knows so much better than all of us.

Obviously there'd be a referendum, you fuckwit. When that comes, if you don't like it, don't vote for it. Australia obviously does not NEED to become a republic but I would sure welcome it.

My mother works in the library of a highschool and she says they can not get maintaince for all the computers they have at the moment, let alone any more. Rudd has no practical ideas, just symbolic ideas.
