I thought this was Ngoi Pewhairangis waiata Whakarongo....same tune.. Which raises a question, where did the tune origniate? who copied who lol

it is a ngoi pewhairangi waiata only got tahaed from another iwi like some of our other waiata,tuwharetoa got a waiata using the music to paikea,rotorua with pokarekare ana, nga puhi with their version of whakarongo and and tu mai hikurangi now whos the tahae

dave henere brought back the tune from indonesia. it is not stolen.

kataraina wrote the song "te riroriro" for dave with that tune.

the song "whakarongo" came out later...

kataraina gave aunty ngoi pewhairangi the tune for "whakarongo".

this is coming from my mum who sings the song with dave henere.
