  • i use photos cause of my work schedule. shoot and paint when i can. i get ridiculed for 'copying' or 'tracing'. but it's my technique, the use of color, lights and darks, that creates the finished work. would love to paint alla prima, but the technique i've developed suits me. your paintings, from start to finish wasn't a achieved yesterday, took you years to developed like my technique. love your videos and the outcome of the painting. we'll keep at it until we try something new.

  • This is magic,great .

  • Hi tom, I'm an artist too, but i'm always looking to learn new techniques in my quest to find my ''voice'' in art. I have a question, your base coat or wash, do you wait for it to fully dry before you begin your main work or is it still wet when you begin.

  • Thanx sir, it would be of great help. I never tried to mix with Blue or Green. Thanx for your Tips. God wish you great success.

  • you are so talented man !!! great work... Do you paint from real life? i am studying oil painting now. It's good to see your work. as it is good lesson for beginner like me. Which colour you use for skin ?

  • I paint from images displayed on my computer monitor so that I can zoom in and out. As for skin color, well, you're going to have to experiment with mixing colors! For starters, try mixing a little yellow, red and white together. Then, add a tiny bit of blue or green to de-saturate the mix for more realism. Of course, mixing paint is a delicate process and many things come into play - there are no such things as generalizations. Get a book on the subject and get to work!

  • Wow did you paint this from life?

  • One can get a wonderful Art education from just watching the many talented artists share their expertise on YouTube and you sir are truly one of the very best of them.. Thank you!

  • Tom I am studying oil painting after painting watercolor for 20ears,I love it it is easier to get colors down cause watercolor always dries lighter.I need reference material and can't afford a model any free sites you know of? Keep up the great work.

    John

  • @Jnebs1 Glad to hear you're enjoying using oil paints. As for reference material, get yourself a good digital camera and the world is your oyster! I paint from photos and consider anyone and anything potential reference material. Most people will allow you to photograph them if you approach them with respect and vision. Best wishes.

  • could i ask if you paint full-time or if you have another line of work and sell your art on the side? Amazing, hope to purchase from you some day. ~D

  • I'm a full-time artist. Let me know if you wnat me to paint something just for you!

  • very good would it be painted in oil or tempera

  • metaFLICK...No, it's not canvas. I paint on specially prepared wood panels that I create and tone in advance. Thanks for your interest and the compliment!

  • Is that canvas your working on? Love your alla prima style, your are indeed a master painter!
