this is funny ive been watching your vids for a while earlier tonite, then was doing research to see if chicken wire would work for this after seeing the same steve spangler vid you mention in the description (he uses like fine mesh window screen) and then this pops up! so i guess it does work. i am planning a 10' tall column on a normal sized fire.. which means more updraft and less rotating air to get the vortex going.. which means one less thing to buy.. although the finer mesh would be betr
@nob5000 This would have worked better had it not been breezy. I think the turntable was a little slow too. Hopefully you'll have a little more luck than I did! A 10 footer should be awesome, be sure to post a video of it! Thanks for watching!
There's an idea! I think we could have gotten a better vortex with less wind. Possibly my screen was too coarse or the speed of the turntable was too slow. It was a bit overcast so I didn't take that much footage of this and almost didn't post it. I was dying to use some of the new Creative Commons music I found though! lol
Last night, I recorded some highspeed footage of my automatic airsoft pistol, the M93R. It's pretty neat to see how much vibration and barrel wobble there is in that thing. No wonder it isn't all that accurate without the forward grip. Unfortunately, though, I broke my M945's firing pin. I'm quite...bummed.
Use a finer mesh, we show this demonstration in the Edinburgh Uni fire lab and ours works a lot better :P

it works better if the fire isnt moving and only the chicken wire/ material is... just a tip

Another interesting idea. Next time, possibly using a few PC fans to create a cycling air current might get a more dramatic vortex.

It's been a while since you posted anything bro! Has it been sunny enough for some outdoor tricking? That blows my mind the abilities you guys have.
Oh... I giving your idea a try with the fan and we'll see how it looks after it is rendered....
