@MrDeYonce I think they both have equal vocal technique but jennifer is just blessed with a far higher belt range. But you gotta admit that with the low register beyonce beats jennifer. They are both so unique and both amazing. Its such a shame people can't just enjoy both an have to lable on of the two with: bad.
@guiantony She can sing and you must be joking if you think Beyonce can't hit those easy notes! You must be tone def! She didn't even go full out on this song like she did on Oprah! Get your shit together before you speak! Check and compare! She is wonderful and in my top 5 female singers today who can really put on a wow perfomance! She didn't have to loose weight at all!
@guiantony are u crazy?? beyonce sings better than her! beyonce can sing high, low, faseltto, and she can do runs!! beyonce voice is gifted! jennifer hudson's voice may be stronger than beyonce',but beyonce has a better voice, because she has better controll!!
@84chrisdave ¬¬ i have nothing to say .... ha ha ha control ???? Beyonce screams to high some notes never so high like Jennifer ... I´m not Jennifer´s fan ... only said that because I can see so much talent in Beyonce and that is my point !
jennifer is amazing definitely the voice of her generation oprah, and others have said it themselfves and jennifer is sooooooo much better vocally now then she was before so #nobody can beat her
@DJAlmond123 It doesn't matter. Pregnancy and overall poor vocal conditions can affect your singing, but this performance is a mess because of her technique issues. You can clearly hear the strain and the uncertain pitch in several spots due to the fact she's pushing and singing from her throat.
You're her most hardcore stan. For once, please be rational.
@Stefano94x Every singer has pitch issues. Whitney Houston is arguably the best singer ever, but she had a few pitch issues here and there. All I'm saying is great singers like them are awarded vocal issues, without being slandered, because they don't happen alot. They aren't going to give a perfect vocal showcase everytime they step to a mike. By the way, I'm not a stan - just a fan.
@DJAlmond123 No, you're a quite deluded stan. Especially if you say "Jennifer is the voice of our generation" when Beyonce dismembers her in terms of technique and control. Much rounder emission and more complex vocals. Jennifer screams.
Every singer goes off tune? True, but when it happens rarely, it's fine. Whitney goes out of tune in some spots. She has a great sense of pitch. On the other hand Jennifer has an uneven mixing and vibrato, which do cause her voice to be thin.
@Stefano94x How in the world are you going to tell me whether I'm a fan or stan of an artist? I said she was The Voice of this generation because that's my opinion. I am entitled to that! Get back to me when Bey doesn't yell anything over a G#5. Atleast my fav has a belting range that span a whole octave.
@DJAlmond123 Because you're delusional and you're anything but objective.
Beyonce never screams her high belts. They're short above F#5, but they're still sung and FAR more resonant than Jennifer's will ever be. Jennifer's strained high belts, more or less sustained, are thin and WAY screamier than Beyonce's. Beyonce controls them and knows her instrument. Jennifer doesn't.
Jennifer can go high because her voice has a naturally high placement. It's not a matter of skill.
@Stefano94x I'm not delusional. Aren't you thinking of yourself? Jenn's voice doesn't have a naturally high placement. She said it herself that she's an alto with soprano capabilities. Altos very rarely can belt C6's like it's nothing. Hell, Jenn practically speaks F5's. With all the "faults" you found with her voice, they can be corrected with a vocal coach. I'm seeing the bigger picture. No one will remember Bey as a great singer, but a performer. Jenn will go down in history as a legend!
@DJAlmond123 An alto should have at least a decent lower register and ability to phrase down there. That's Bey's case. Jennifer's lower register is pratically air.
Jennifer hits C6, but she is anything but relaxed when she does it. It is squeezed and coarse.
You utterly #FAIL when you say she will go down in history as a legend. /watch?v=SRNJWdHzKxk
Focus on how Beyonce's powerful SUPPORTED high F drowns out Jennifer's excessive scream at 1:34.
@Stefano94x And when I say The Voice I can support my opinion by statement from her peers that are legends...well except for Beyonce! Aretha, Patti, and Alicia love Jennifer's voice. Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson have expressed their love as well. Whitney said she has one of the greatest voices of our time. Even Beyonce stated that Jennifer's voice is a "gift from God".
@DJAlmond123 You argument what you say with praises and your fanaticism, lacking credibility. I argument what I say with music theory. Beyonce doesn't need a belted C6 to pulverize Jennifer. She slayed her at the Oscars and she slays her when it comes to technique. She has also more range. Oops!
So many singers who are not praised SLAY Jennifer. And your skill isn't based on your highest note. Toni Braxton is a contralto, she can't go as high as Jennifer but she overpowers her so easily.
@Stefano94x Sure she has more range when you count the exclamations and breathy low notes. Jennifer has more belting range. But range doesn't make a great singer. Georgia Brown has the greatest range of any artist, but is she a great singer? No!
@DJAlmond123 Beyonce's lows are full, round and relaxed. Jennifer's are airy and inconsistent. And I already demonstrated you how Beyonce slays Jennifer in terms of power (careless of the range, since it was a note they both can hit). What about that? *waits*
@Stefano94x Nobody's here for Jenn's low register. Your "demonstration" wasn't a very good one. If you hit a note and then I come after you of course mines will have more volume. It's called being loud. Bey just had a resonant yell!
@DJAlmond123 Omg yours is a combination of delusion and ignorance.
Beyonce drowned out Jennifer because her note was resonant. Vocal power is not volume indeed, but resonance. Jennifer's note was a thin scream. It was anything but powerful.
Beyonce beats Jennifer not only at lows, but also when it comes to belts. Fact. Your delusion won't change it.
@DJAlmond123 #LOL I comment every video I want to comment, careless of the fact it may hurt you. You simply can't stand the fact your empty speaking without arguments got owned with ease.
@Stefano94x JHud's voice has one of the most flawless, powerful voices of our time. I see you commenting on a lot of Anastacia videos, supporting her voice and sound (which is in one word sheer amazing). There have been times where Anastacia has given a very poor performance but for some reason this goes over your head =S I don't get it. Jennifer wiped the floor with Beyonce in Dreamgirls, and won many awards for her acting skills. Beyonce won no awards, and her nominations were slim
@thisistheending Anastacia has had vocal issues because of her health problems. Jennifer's vocal issues are due to her bad technique. It's not my opinion. Technique is an objective thing and it has nothing to do with awards or praises or sales. In this performance she was out of tune in several spots and screamed out the high notes.
/watch?v=My_rjoW2-pQ
Here Anastacia sings the high part of Paid My Dues. She was very tired, but she sang perfectly in tune and with no strain at all.
@Stefano94x I think you'll probably find that Jennifer never strains her voice, it sounds like she strains yet her technique is so solid she can sing any note she has hit in a studio live. I think it sounds more of an opinion, if you look closely at ANY of Jennifer's performances you can see her diaphragm is supporting her sound, no matter what that might be. Some singers just have a thin tone to their higher register, Aretha Franklin did and plenty other singers do
@thisistheending Raspiness and strain are different things. They're not always correlated. Aretha's emission is way too resonant to be strained, and her raspiness is due to her tone, which is naturally raspy. Plus, Aretha's emission is always raspy. On the other hand, Jennifer's emission is loud (which doesn't mean powerful), but thin. It gets thinner and thinner as she ascends in pitch. Her larynx is very unstable. Aretha has a correct vocal placement on the high belts. Jennifer not so much.
@Stefano94x Aretha only developed a raspy tone to her voice towards the end. If you listen to Respect and Think, her voice is clear. Much like Jennifer's CAN be now.
@Stefano94x And also I'm not saying awards are a big thing, but with praising Beyonce due to her performances I think it's good to take into account her acting abilities, Beyonce can sing...but she can't act. Another thing, Aretha Franklin herself has asked Jennifer to perform her (Aretha's) songs to her on more than one occasion and she has even asked Jennifer to act as her in a future film. Beyonce performed Etta James' songs, yet Etta hates them and infact prefer's Christina's tribute to her
@thisistheending We're speaking about singing, not acting. And Beyonce destroys Christina Aguilera. Beyonce has a near-perfect intonation and she places her voice correctly. Christina is a mess in terms of both technique and intonation. Her voice is gone.
@Stefano94x Even in terms of singing I prefer JHud's fuller sound. Beyonce can knock a song out. But in Dreamgirls Jhud knocked Beyonce clean out of the water and Beyonce was overlooked musically throughout. Xtina has lost her voice big time. I agree...but when a legend such as Etta James tell Beyonce to shut up and asks Xtina to keep on singing, don't you think that counts for something?
@thisistheending Etta James' problems with Bee were not due to her bad singing.
I know those songs. The high notes are clearly uncontrolled. The vibrato is uneven, it's wobbly. The emission is throaty, it doesn't resonate, so she's singing with a raised larynx, which is a big indicator of wrong placement and strain.
@Stefano94x I wasn't saying it was due to her bad singing, but if she thought Xtina was a bad singer and had no control or technique surely by now she wouldn't have said she prefer's Xtina's version of "At Last" rather than Bee's. Uncontrolled would mean the notes would be everywhere, they would be flat, her voice would not have lasted long without technique. The vibrato is spread throughout the note evenly and accordingly.
@thisistheending Not at all. It's wobbly. The fact a note is not controlled doesn't mean you can't hold it. Jennifer has a bad technique and little control over her high belts, but she can hold them decently because of her high tessitura. Control involves resonance and correct placement, and Jennifer's belts have none of these qualities.
@Stefano94x Well I guess that's your opinion. To say it's fact backed up with some form of education you've clearly had is very amateurish so I hope you don't do the usual "it's fact. End of" kind of thing. Jennifer has a lot of fans and a voice that does need some more training, but so far she doesn't seem to be having much problem getting the attention she deserves. Her soulful voice blows me away everytime. Much like Anastacia's flawless (90% of the time) performances
@thisistheending It's impossible for anyone to push through your mask and belt THAT high. Whitney resonates in the mask without mixing in her belts. She has great power throughout her range, her technique is great, but she has not the same ease as someone who mixes (ex. Anastacia) to access the upper belt, because mixing is practically the best technique to belt that high. But you should be able to mix decently. Jennifer's mixing is not balanced, her abuse of chest tones heightens her larynx.
@Stefano94x Listen to Chaka Khan. I'm Every Woman...Never Miss the Water, One for All Time etc. in songs like this Chaka belts notes out through her mask. Any they sometimes come out wobbly etc. Lowering the larynx I find is harder than it sounds, it requires opening the soft pallet (spelling?) at the back of the throat, and a visual in your mind of something lowering itself as you sing higher. Think it takes a LOT of experience, practise and professional training to master these
@thisistheending Chaka Khan is a great singer but she has placement problems (not very much though). But the difference between Chaka and Jennifer is that Chaka's singing is generally good, Jennifer's isn't. I know lowering your larynx requires practice, but you should know how to do it if you always space in the G5-A5 area like Jennifer does, otherwise you'll ruin your voice.
watch?v=5-j8BSGzKUA
Listen to the awful high note in the end. It's so strained, thin, unstable; she also goes flat.
@Stefano94x And in terms of vocal placement, when she sings her belts, you can actually hear it's place isn't in the throat whatsoever, it's in the mask. A lot of singers use this when belting, hell I do when I get into mixed register. Chaka Khan is known for doing this, and it generally creates a thin tone to the song. I do agree Jennifer needs some more control, but I find her voice is getting better. Who knows. Aretha seems to LOVE her voice though. Speaks for itself
@Stefano94x Oh and also regarding to JHud "screaming" when reaching a note I think you should take a look at All Dressed In Love, or Everybody Needs Love. They sound thin, but by no means is she screaming, you can hear the control in her voice constantly.
I'm not feeling this performance, I love this song, the best one of the album, what it's all over the place.... Shame, most of her live performances are amazing...
What I love about Jennifer Hudson is that when she belts, she does it so effortlessy. She does it as easy as speaking. She doesn't have to strain her voice, it just comes out naturally! I LOVE YOU JENNIFER!!!

What I love about Jennifer Hudson is that when she belts, she does it so effortlessy. She does it as easy as speaking. She doesn't have to strain her voice, it just comes out naturally! I LOVE YOU JENNIFER!!!
