Well it's been over a year since I started using it, I do think I might have used one of the Windows system sounds, and just changed it a little in audacity, thanks.
it actually does record sound but its kind of weird the sound is offset to the video, so you'll here the ending on the clip at the begining of the 12second clip, so i mostly just turn the audio recording off in the camera on that mode. yeah its kind of sad :(
i love this camera, i got one last summer. the only thing i dont like is the WIND NOISE!!!!!!!!!! it almost seems like this camera was made to record as much wind noise as possible!! *(not really, but it will suck in windy days)*
other than that, this camera ROCKS! SUPER CLEAR ON A HD TV!!

NEWEST IN PURE HD -Sony HDR-SR11 High Quality Test (HD FS 1920 x 1080)
Recently YouTube finally allowed uploads of raw files. although it could still & probably does add its own compression, the video quality via the internet has significantly improved.
10 more years & we will have new codecs..ect..it will be possible to bandwith 10Gb in a minute. At least I think so.
The prices are lowering, but at the time the price was too different. Oh, and the SR-10 has Full HD 1920x1080i recording too.The CMOS chip is one of the newest on the SR-10, only a slightly lighter version. But I have to agree with you, if you want to make little movies at home, then the SR-12 might be better thanks to each of it's in-puts.
So yeh,,The CMOS chip i was referring to is sligtly poorer but not by much -
SR-10 - The Sony HDR-SR10 is the baby model of the three and has a 40GB hard drive. It features a 4 megapixel, 1/5″ CMOS sensor, 15x optical zoom, and a 2.7″ widescreen LCD.
SR-11 - The next model up, the Sony HDR-SR11, features a new, rather large 5.7 megapixel, 1/3.15″ CMOS sensor.
Sorry. You're right, it can shoot at 1920 by 1080i As for CMOS -SR - 10 - It features a 4 megapixel, 1/5″ CMOS sensor, 15x optical zoom, and a 2.7″ widescreen LCD. 40Gb.
SR-11 - features a new, rather large 5.7 megapixel, 10.2 megapixel for photos, 1/3.15″ CMOS sensor. Accordingly, the optical zoom decreases to 12x, but the LCD screen size increases to 3.2″ with a whopping 921k resolution. 60Gb
Yeah. Oh and I'm the same guy as TomProductionz (one account is for gaming and one for real things). Yes, the SR-10 is the "baby version", and therefore I recommend it for beginners, but indeed for more professional use the SR-11 and SR-12 are better.
Oh ya no problem. I use Adobe Premier Elements 7, version 4 works but 7 has support for the AVCHD format. I use the text feature to make "loading" a fade in/out text, then on a separate layer I made the dots "......." and just dragged one of the text effects to it to make them bounce. if ya need anymore info let me know.
EI... great Video Man! i was just wondering.... i'm planning to buy a HDR SR11... is it compatible with a Macbook? will i be able to edit some clips there?
I'm not completly sure if the software is but I don't see why the camera couldn't transfer files from the hdd to the mem stick then to the mac. If you get it in a big store like futureshop or bestbuy, ask them if you can use it on your mac, the camera and the software. Best of luck.
I wish it had a lens hood & most importantly, a focus RING. It should also have more than just 16mbps on recording 1920x1080i. Can this camera record in 720p, or any sort of progressive mode?!
It has lower resolution recording modes, but I don't know If they change from interlaced to progressive, its fine for me, I don't even have an HD tv yet, just my pc screen.
You would need a Terabyte hard drive to record in slo-mo continually in HD. No you can only get a 3 second clip 'turns into 12 seconds' ether after or before you press the record button.
The SR12 has 4 rec modes which can be used in both regular/slo-mo videos and photos. HD-FH..16megapixels, HD-HQ..9megapixels, HD-SP..7megapixels, HD-LP..5megapixels. I do watch the videos in HD on my PC and the image quality is very impressive. You will have to get a video editting program that supports AVCHD video, or you will only be able to convert them into a wmv or mpeg at 640x480 resolution. Does that answer your question?
The image quality 'resolution' is the same, but the picture brightness, contrast, does drop a significant amount, most likely do to the high amount of frames the camera is taking in it can not quite get the full image 'quality' that quickly. It does help for taking slo-mo vids of lightning, the bolts are not as blinding as in regular mode, and other very bright items.
You can record a 3sec clip in speed mode then the camera turns it into a 12sec clip. once you press the record buttion in speed mode you'll have to wait about 15sec before you can record again because it is doing a ton of work at the moment. But if you are in normal mode you can record in full HD for 14 hours, and 48 hours in low quality with the SR12 120GB HDD. You can not record both modes at the same time, you'll have to stop recording on one mode then switch modes to record the other.
How can you make it HD when uploading it on youtube?

You know, I'm really thinking about getting this camcorder but I noticed that there is a newer model out and this one is a little £££.

I would assume the price difference between the SR-10 & SR-11 is that because the SR-11 and SR-12 can do full 1920x1080i.
Although Interlaced, I can tell you even on a massive TV it looks crystal.
From what I remembered, the SR-10 can only do 1920 x 1440 & Doesn't use the newest CMOS chip. (From what I remember so could be a little off.
Basically, if you can wait off a bit I would get the SR-11.
I did a pure. MTS file straight from the cam to PC.
Its in the left corner, the first video.zNewst

Best option out of all that you wrote above is the - HDSR-11.
Same as the SR-12 just 60gb HD not a 120 and holds a tad more HD features then the SR-10.
Check out some of my high resolution videos if you like.
