Buy a Marlin 7 shot clip fed $150 bucks at Gander Mountain and own up to a real bolt action rifle! For small cal. I haven't found a better shooter then a Marlin. I have 4, a22, two 22mags and a 17hmr all under $300 except the 17 I scoped it with a Nikon pro-staff and well do the math!

As the .22 LR round moves from super sonic to trans sonic, the destabilization will cause the bullet to wobble and maybe even flip. Either way, that will cause problems in target groupings.

However, the .22 Short will always be in a transonic state, therefore there will be no need to worry about destabilization through different states of velocity and your projectile should travel with little problems.

(Also, .22 short is really quiet due to the lack of the sonic crack and reduced propellant)

The .22 short will absolutely be subsonic.

I take it that your barrel length is close to 24 inches right? Well to get the optimum velocity from a .22 LR, one would want a 16.5 inch barrel. Your length is much longer and the velocity of each standard round is just at if not slightly above the speed of sound. That causes the round to be unstable as it moves from super sonic to trans sonic and that causes the destabilization of accuracy to be quite noticeable at longer ranges.

I never fully loaded it but I assume around 20 or 30 rounds.

Those that say the .22 cal is a pussy round never got shoot at with a 5.56mm M16, the 5.56 is the ultimate in 22s, and hell I bought a M44 carbine and its about a buck per round. for price I'd get a 22, You all probably didn't know a .22 has a higher muzzle velocity than a .45 ACP FMJ round. And as for crime scene invetigators, they HATE the .22 because the can't trace the bullet to the gun at all.
