i just bought (pretty cheap today) one and after using and testing it for few weeks i have to say i must sell it away. it is nice and handy, very easy to use and conf, but the quality is just plain poor. SDHQ is somewhat near the VHS LP-quality and HDHL (best option) is about the same as VHS-SP. Amount of pixels doesnt make a quality, since it is very, i mean very granular video quality. foggy and hazy autozoom is lowest i've seen and overall this cam only brings you a migraine.

These Sony Handycams TG3 TG5 TG7 look very nice and compact with titanium body and stuff. I don't like them. Memory stick duo is expensive, you get only an hour of recording time. No led lighting for dark shots and some other things more. I really thought of buying this camcorder.I've bought the Canon Legria HF200 way better camcorder then this sony handycam. If your planning on buying a camcorder do your research on internet watch test footages on youtube buy the best camcorder that fits you.

I don't know how long it can record, but the difference between hd and full hd is, that hd's resolution is 1280x720, but full hd is recording in 1920x1080, and that is way better.

with a full hd 1920 x 1080 the record time with an 8 gb card will be 56 minutes.

its 400 quid brand new on ebay but ive seen an ingersoll for 100 quid that looks very similar and has more megapixels bt jus int made out of titanium and no 1080 although is still HD so id reccomend sony go back to their drawin boards

To finish my thoughts, Sony must do 2 things in my mind.

Make a new model of this camera that:

- supports SD cards

- at least 10 megapixel photos

- 1080i ( now hopefully 1080p )

Do this, and many will buy one, I am positive that SONY has lost many sales because of their reluctance to change their products so they can use everyday memory cards. I picked up 16 Gb SD cards for $19.99 each this past Boxing Day.

Sony will one day change, but maybe not soon :-( and their sales will suffer.

This camera would have been a TX1 killer, but for the dismal 4 megapixel camera. I have had the TX1 now for a few years, and although it takes nice 720p video. I got excited when I first saw the Sony here in North America but was sad to see it only sported a 4 megapixel camera. The Canon TX1 is an old camera now, and it sports a 7.1 megapixel camera.

The other downfall is the use of their own memory :-( I will never buy a Sony product that uses Sony memory at elevated prices.

That is an awesome little cam.. I would luv to have one of these. I really like the small size, built to quality. Its perfect to cart around. But damn the price hurts.. about $1200 aussie dollars. damn.

Depends on a number of factors. The TG3 is much smaller but the SR11 has the built in HardDrive and can record shed loads of video.

*sigh* I have a problem. Sony camcorders are my favorite. For me, they have the best features, best build quality, they look the sexiest, and of course, the video quality is the best.But what I hate about Sony is they will NOT give up on Memory Stick Duo cards. It's so sad. SDHC cards are so much better. They're practically the same thing,but in comparison,$50-70 cheaper!I can get a class (6) 16GB SDHC card for $35. Yet a 16gb MSDuo from Sony costs an arm and leg. Please Sony. Switch to SDHC!
