I saw the Pogues with Strummer at Brixton Academy in Dec '91. Some guy smuggled in a huge banner, like 30 feet long, wrapped around his torso. It said "Have You No Shane?" I helped him hang the banner on the side of the auditorium where the band couldn't miss it. Great show, Strummer talking about the roots of a lot of songs, high energy, confetti dropping from the ceiling at the end, James Fearnley running around like a madman.
My mother was going to one of the Mascalero gigs and she went for a drink first. On the way to the pub she saw Joe and she shouted "'Ere, Joe, Coming for a pint?" He said something like "Nah, Sorry, gotta get set up." She said that it was probably good he didn't come as she was shaking like hell in the pub. RIP, Joe, Punk Rock warlord, Your a hero lost, but never forgotten. MacGowan...Your a legend too.
Shane performed admirably at this show and Joe also stepped out to perform a song or 2 as he did here. It sure didn't seem to be a bad night for Shane....
Type 'The Future Is Unwritten - Exclusive Interviews' to get a twenty minute mini doc about the making of the new documentary about The Clash and Joe Strummer in UK cinemas now!
You idiots that compare Strummer and McGowan are just that... IDIOTS! Leave them to enjoy their own greatness. Comparison serves no purpose
because, well, they are fundamentally different in their approach to music. What it comes down to is that they are two awesome artists and THAT IS IT...PLAIN AND SIMPLE
You Can`t compare Strummer and MacGowan to each other, they where playing two different types of music. Thou, The Pogues where punk influensed... And Shane was just a just as good songwriter as Joe Strummer...
P.S. My life would be complete if somebody could upload a video of him doing If I Should Fall From Grace With God with them. And don't tell me it doesn't exist, because I have anecdotes and mp3s to prove it.

I saw the Pogues with JS years ago, the tickets were a birthday present. It was a wild night!
