Most suicides appear energetic and exhuberant on the day of or before their suicide. It's like a weight has been lifted from their shoulders. If you want to see someone who later did shoot themselves on live national tv, search "Budd Dwyer"....it's so shocking that he did that.
Some people may think I'm a freak. I know it's not open (it probably doesn't exist anymore) but I wanna see the video! It sounds freaky that I want to see how I woman took her own life in front of tons of people, but I gotta say, what she did traumatize tons of people as well. She shouldn't have done that. If you're going to do this, do it on private.
@purpleman4 I appreciate the response. I actually stumbled on the answer shortly after I posted the question. Took me awhile to find it. I couldn't find any further reading on 'Network', but I can't imagine that scene in the movie being well recepted by the public at the time being that it seems to be a shot at what Chubbuck was going through.
I apologize (choke) on how I feel about Chris. I was only 9. I do remember hearing about it and feeling sick to myself. As I grew older, I was apparently doing all the things she wanted to do, have relationships, I think her passive aggression made it impossible. When I saw documentaries including family and colleagues they should have involuntary committed her. She was a Freudian NIGHTMARE!! She should NEVER be memorialized or have tributes. She was a deranged, why me mental statistic!
i can't stop thinking about this sad , alone , beautiful lady . i hate that NOONE knew her. i almost wish i could do anything to go back and change her life . change how she feels. if i could go back just once in a time machine i'd go back to her .
@AMAURIS966 I suspect it was really a desperate cry for help - she apparently said: 'ATTEMPTED Suicide' on air before pulling the trigger....and her note stated: 'in a critical condition in hospital...' (- tho' shooting yourself in the head is normally fatal...)
Who knows had she lived she might have met the man she needed, and got a better TV job, so very sad
If ever Paul Simon's song 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' applied...it was to this poor young woman, hopefully she's now at peace..
@jbaev In 1974 (when she killed herself) home video recording was very rare. Most people didn't have VCRs or other means of recording TV programs. So likely, the only tape that existed was the station tape. Also, this was a small ABC affiliate in Sarasota, Florida and because of this, Chubbuck's show was probably only broadcast locally, not on a national platform. Most likely, the only viewers that saw it were living in or near Sarasota and didn't get it on tape.
i noticed in the description bar u said u can see her make a hand movement, i couldnt see it. can you post the area of that time where it is visible please?
RIP Christine. You were gorgeous and it's very sad that you felt you needed to end your life. If only I were born earlier and knew you, maybe I could have prevented this.
all you torture porn masturbators should kill yourselves, the only copy of the tape was destroyed by the family, find some other tragedy to jack off to
I did see the video once, a very long time ago. I don't know how or why. My aunt was a producer for the TV station she worked for. I was just a little kid when that happened. And as far as that statement about the only ones that have the video are her family, that is very untrue. It is a very grainy clip that was taken from the stations vaults. The family does not want it or do they have it. It is out there. Why you'd want to see it is beyond me, but here we all are..
@bunnyhead71 That is VERY interesting. The information I had read stated that her family went to court in order to receive an injunction that would award them Christine's belongings and the video.
Is your aunt still with us? If so, could you ask her to possibly pull some strings or do some asking around?
@purpleman4 It seems her family denied her her last wish,,why else would she do it in such a public way? Something must have be secret in her family life.
@bunnyhead71 If its out there, feel free to show me a link or point me in the direction of where I can see it. You've never see it, and your aunt didn't work for the TV station.
@bunnyhead71 You sent me your story, and I have found it to be false. You said that the station cut and went to dead air when she pulled the gun out. Not true. I found an article written by a witness saying they WITNESSED the entire incident when it happened. On google you can search archived newspapers. I can send a link to whoever is curious.
@MichaelSxe555 ...correct, I also stated that the info I got was 2nd hand and I was a little kid when it happened. As far as the validity of the another persons article and "1st hand" account. I have no idea. I never really had much interest in the story to begin with. As far as I had been told and was aware of, the station did cut and go to dead air immediately. Now whether or not that is correct or incorrect, I have no clue or care too much.
@bunnyhead71 Ok, well I've just been curious about this particular case for awhile and I've come across a lot of people making things up just for the sheer fun of it and it gets irritating. Sorry to call you out the way that I did.
@MigueCeballos - The family gained an injunction preventing its release. Since then, the family has the only video of it, and its whereabouts are unknown. Chances of it ever being released are VERY slim-to-none.
@MigueCeballos there was a clip on youtube a few years ago of her announcing she was going to shoot herself on live television but it's since been removed.
@MigueCeballos There's one copy and it is in possession of her family. Remember this was 1974 before home VCRs ever hit the market. The family probably thanks God for that. Imagine if that happened today, huh?
@MsKelliGIzaStar well, I´m not surprised that they hidden it, because it is a lack of respect for her family, It´s much better not see that even if you want too
@MigueCeballos Thats what i'm saying...you cant see it because its hidden because thats the way it should be. I really dont see why anyone desires to see such a violent and graphic thing
The woman was obviously troubled. She looks like my ex wife who was bi polar and had the same self destructive tendencies. Too bad we turn a blind eye on mental illness.
Oh, and if anyone is curious, there have been new photos of Christine discovered from her high school year book. It's interesting to see new photos of her. She seems so innocent and full of life, it's so terrible to see those photos and know what happened to that person.
@MichaelSxe555 I wish you would post where to find these new pictures! By the way, until just a few minutes ago, I had forgotten to email E! TV. I have done it now.
still people are pointing out what was wrong with her,we all have our up n downs, split personalities...she was trying to point out what was wrong with them.seems a sledgehammer to the face isnt enough.whether or not she knew it?she was right.

I think poor Chrissy had too many issues for her to cope with:
she wanted to be a serious TV current affairs reporter - TV station wanted "sensational" TV
she was 29, still single, and had real difficulties getting close to people it seems
she wanted a guy at work who was with another girl - an awful triangle
she felt unattractive (wrongly) and feared she could not have a child
she was prone to depression
you can cope with a few issues but if they mount up
such a tragic waste
Billo912 1 month ago
She just needed some excitement in her life. She clearly thought her family wasn't worth living for. This girl was helpless.
