  • Hey was that Ralph Lua playing the solo on snare

  • I'm going to try to get my band director to let us play this for our closer next year...but I wanna solo the whole thing like Allen Vizzutti =]

  • @xAntiderivativEx yeah these guys suck allen would make them cry until they quit trumpet

  • @xAntiderivativEx my high school i coach at has this as a halftime haha wait till thier show

  • I never tire of hearing that one.

  • @Bluefalcon3 Read the description, idiot.

  • Sadly I have no videos of the Emerald Brigade... my folks never bought a video camera.

  • Awesome! I was in the Poway Marching Band at the time... but went to UCLA and played in the trumpet section with Dan the Man. Nice to read he's a band director now. Actually, the UCLA Band director, Gordon Henderson, wrote our drill and I think arranged Poway's music. We played Firedance shortly after this. Sweet memories. Thanks.

  • The Poway Emerald Brigade? Do you have a video of it

  • i want to meet the french horn player someday

  • Who is the soloist that kept messing up? I keep hearing a crack every 10 measures.....

  • im gonna be in this band next year :D SO EXCITED

  • watch the Sky Ryders drum and bugle corps in 81 whitewater to hear fire-dance done the best ever. Top 4 horn line in the world that summer. amazing!

  • That sure is loud..

  • niiiiiiiiice trumpet players

  • Watch the Latin show from Spirit of Northwestern. They place an awesome version of Firedance. This school only has 6,000 on campus yet they march 300 or more. Good program.

  • Love the trumpet solo.

  • Woohoo! I can't believe I never saw this! Why wasn't this on the end-of-year video?

That's me on the left @ 2:16, along with Paul, Kevin, Ash, and Ernie, who were the most talented tenor drummers I ever got to play with.

We got stock drum parts from the stock score, but with Kevin ALbert, John Watley and others spicing the parts up a bit, it made this tune a heck of a lot of fun. A lot of familiar faces under those shakos bring back a lot of great memories. Thanks!

  • Quite a performance. Future Bruin French Horn here:) Superior form, articulation, tone quality, and blend . . . especially for such an old video. The solid gold sound rules, baby!!!!

  • Listen to the trumpets wailin out those super-D's =D I LOVE playin that high!!!

  • I'm with you on that...hahah. ;)

  • This waz great!!!!!

  • Great song and Great performance, UCLA All The Way!

  • for this particular arrangement to work, it has to be played faster. finally i know what it really sounds like from the front. the university of hawaii band performed this same arrangement my senior year in high school. awesome stuff! i posted a video of it.

  • This is UCLA. Emphasis on LA. Everything is more laid back in LA.

  • if you guys liked this performance (which isn't bad by the way) check out some of the James Madison Univ. Marching Royal Dukes videos, they also played this song too, but they are absolutely amazing!

  • We played this for our concert in 7th grade.

  • James Madison's version is far superior to this one.

  • you can all argue about who played it better the simple truth is the Crossmen wins that one :-)

  • I bet you haven't heard the RCC version.

  • Oh, man, that was such a fun performance! After getting golf-clapped by the Rose Bowl crowd all season, it was nice to have a crowd that would cheer for us! My freshman year.

  • Not bad, but the JMU Marching Royal Dukes version is better.

  • This was in 1989 when you were like 4. Dude, this rocked every band in the US back then. Times have changed but UCLA is by far the best band on the West Coast.

  • The JMU Marching Royal Dukes rendition of Firedance is superior to this one. Not bad though.

  • NEED MORE!!! Awesome!!!!!!

  • ucla 1989 ToC

  • A few to-be southern California band directors out there on that field that night...Terry Sakow, Dan Doyle, John Whatley...wow! Cool stuff.

  • This is the best Firedance arrangement I've ever heard. We can argue as to which band or drum & bugle corps plays it better... But as far as arrangement alone... This is my absolute favorite. What an opening! Thanks for the clip Slappy!! You're the best. ;P

  • Could you please post the rest of the performance....wasn't it at the California Band Review in Santa Ana, CA. That was the most memorable performance of my college career.
