Holy CRAP! When I rented the DVD as soon as I heard the drumming, I thought what the hell is this?! If someone is going to make a movie, at least hire some real drummers! I'm sure there have been enough African American DCI players out there that would have made the movie a hell of a lot better. At least they could have actually sounded like a drum line, not a bunch of hacks. At least it would have made the drumming sound respectful.

The actual players never really needed to act, they could have just looked good and have the music dubbed like all other movies. I mean the main character never played a beat that required any real skill. That is evident in the fact that the producers NEVER showed him from the chest down playing the snare when it counted. Oh well.

I don't want to bitch about the movie, because it helped make drumline "cool" for a larger audience and I think in one way or another we've all benefited from that. Plus the cadences may be simple, but they have a good groove, which is what they needed for a movie like this.

But I must say it is odd that they weren't able to get a better line to do the tracks for the movie. I mean, it shouldn't have been that expensive to hire some DCI-level drummers.

@KillMeNowVIII It wouldn't have been very accurate... the setting wasn't a DCI competion, it was a HBC marching band competition. This is pretty accurate sound to a HBC band if you have ever seen the battle of the bands at a Hertiage Classic Bowl football game.
