What is most ridiculous is that the Germans were accused of having the most brutally efficient and destruction-causing army of all time, yet practically every non-German movie portrayal shows the Wehrmacht and SS as utterly incompetent idiots.
Boy that 'come up behind the Nazi and strangle him" bit is the most overused routine in movie history. First of all, do you know how hard it is to sneak up on somebody from behind without being heard, let alone to a combat soldier who is going to be vigilant about such a thing. Second, what is to prevent a guy being grabbed around the neck from kicking his attacker in the balls? Like anybody would go to their death that meekly. Let one of these movie producers try strainglin a guy fr behnd
Andy Mac Nab wrote the same in Bravo Two Zero, the old catch them from behind and stab them routine beloved of war movie directors is very difficult to do as the soldier being attacked is likely to fight for his life and it is extremely difficult to kill someone in one go with a knife.
@Christopher4015 it was probably a bit of an American cigarette. It's possible the German soldier who got stabbed answered the call from America. Had a case of cigarettes with him.....
In almost every american war movie Germans are always represented like idiots.
They talk like dumb barbarians, never hear the ennemies arriving, they never recognize the ennemies wearing their german uniforms, the snipers are always found and killed, they always lose when fighting man on man and so on...
LoL what a dull movie :D When somebody comes to you from behind you will hear him xDDD And the uniform of the SS-Soldier is not closed completly <.< this would has never happend xDDD Poor little propaganda film^^
What a stupid series of videos, taking clips from old movies of attacks on German soldiers. What's next, series on Englishmen eating chips, Greeks dancing, Americans farting? I can't fathom how dumb these posters must be.
That's correct it was a Soviet military vehicle made post-war - Correct German one would be a Kubelwagen.
I think it was a Romanian film made during Communist time about Romanian soldiers changes sides and fights the Nazis. It was a poor film though.
Romanian films improved after fall of communism with American money poured in and almost like either modern Russian or European movies of the present.
Maybe, the Germans playing weren't really German because that officer on the car asked that German Private Is der Weg frei then he answered frei, a proper answer should be jawohl because he was talking to an officer.
of course the allies win in every single ww2 movie. they make the germans look like idiots. those ss guys guys especially. better than any other fighting force at the time. and that guy didnt even look german.
@BlakeC94 I think you are wrong about American perception of German fighting ability. But don't forget the Germans were knocking over sovereign nations. America entered the war because Germany was declaring war on the US. You have to expect these low budget movies to be more BS than realism.
Personally I have a high regard for the German fighting force than. But ...... today... I don't know.
@therohvac The American General Staff did have a low opinion of German fighting ability at least before WW1. That was based on how well German immigrants fought in the Civil War. Even that was an unfair ascessment since it was based on the battle of Chancellorsville when Stonewall Jackson got around on the flank of the mostly German comprised Union 11th Corps and routed them, but that would have happened to everybody else I'm sure
@dancinkindofguy You say they had a low opinion of german fighting ability before world war one and then contradict your self by saying they were known as good soldiers because they fought so well in the civil war. Civil war - 1860s, WW1 - 1914.
@November10th1775USMC I can see where you thought I contradicted myself. I said "That was based on how well German immigrants fought in the Civil War"; I probably should have said "how poor the fought". So the Staff thought they fought poorly is what I was trying to convey.
@dancinkindofguy not true at all, 23.4% of the Union army were German-Americans, so you are saying 1 in 4 Union soldiers were cowardly and didn't know how to fight. A number of them received the Medal of Honour. The all-German regiments had good reputations except one, the 74th Pennsylvania, which was an undue reputation
They were also considered cowardly because a lot of early German immigrants were Quakers and Mennonites, people who are pacifists and so did not support war.
@jadger1871 I didn't in any way say the German-Americans in the Civil War were cowardly. I said the General Staff before American involvement in WWI had a low opinion of them and I said that was unfair because it was mostly based on one battle and only a small percectage of them. I don't know how you got that out of what I posted.
@dancinkindofguy you said: "That was based on how well German immigrants fought in the Civil War", you even quoted that yourself. Now, how did they fight in the civil war that put their fighting prowess in doubt?
the 74th regt received its bad rep because at Chancellorsville when they were attacked by surprise in the flank by overwhelming Confederate troops. they lost over 100 men, more than 25% of their strength. A unit is considered combat inneffective at 10% casualties, they fought hard before retreating. The whole XI corps fared very poorly in the battle, but because the 74th was mainly German immigrants they were prejudiced against and bigoted common soldiers claimed the Germans were cowards.
What is most ridiculous is that the Germans were accused of having the most brutally efficient and destruction-causing army of all time, yet practically every non-German movie portrayal shows the Wehrmacht and SS as utterly incompetent idiots.
