  • I'll be damned when they say "This is a manhattan bound L express train"

The L train needs more trains on the line.

  • I love that acceleration sound :D.

  • that sound is forever burned in my brain lol so is it in every other new yorkers...L train has the best service in the city in my opinion 7 line is good too

  • New York subway FTW

  • i love the R143 trains...they ride smooth...un like the old trains

  • gonna miss those r-40s and r42 though...

although i do like the sound the r143 makes when it starts up =3

  • me too ^_^

  • same here thats y im going to go see this train on saturday in brooklyn i hope :)

  • @legoofeggos I too will miss those R40s, especially the R40 Slants, but the R143s start up sound is awesome.

  • do u know what kind of motors they have

  • Ad tranz Motors

  • @MustangFan424 u heard of the r143 simens?

  • @MustangFan424 the (L) Train always have problems

  • Part from the sound, how is the R143's different from the r160's?

  • The interior FIND displays. The R143s uses a plain electronic strip map, while the R160s uses a more up-to-date electronic strip map. Also, the R143s are numbered from 8101-8312.

  • And also the tail lights weren't LED like the R-160's. Couldn't really tell on this video but did they upgrade them to LED's?

  • I think they were, I'm not entirely sure.

  • The flags on the R143s are below the MTA New York City Subway logo instead of above, R143s have double side doors at the ends of the cars, and also, R143s use strip maps instead of FIND displays.

  • wow the r142s make a different sound than this one? why is that???

  • the r142A sounds like the r143 but the r142 sounds like the r160A

  • R142 trains from Bombardier uses Alstom motors (same as in the R160 contract) and Kawasaki went with AdTranz motors (now Bombardier) for the R142A. Thats why you hear the different sounds.

  • oh so the R142A's and the R143 have the same motors?

  • Max foam.

  • Isn't that the same sound the R142A makes when it accelerates on the numbered lines?

  • Yes they have the same motors.

  • @MustangFan424 yup alstom onix , there also is a version of the r143 that has siemens propultion

  • @MustangFan424 Are you the magic guru of the NY subway?

  • @MustangFan424 Which lines have only or majority R142's and R160's

  • R143 forever!

  • What happened to "Stand clear of the closing doors" and "DIng-Dong"?

  • Listen closely at 1:02

  • whoa the acceleration is scary...

  • This train sounds a little like the Br481 in Berlin :)

  • And Bay Area Rapid Transit in San Francisco

  • The L train stays crowded

  • good shot man!

  • The R143 is def my fav rolling stock on the MTA system, they sounds exactly the same as to the trains that drive where i live in Zurich Switzerland, the Siemens RABe 514..

  • (reply to transitboil321) to be a what, a conductor?

  • Yea, to be a conducter

  • i spoke to an L T/0 and he said you do not have to do other stuuf for the mta in order to be one all you have to do know is take the test

  • great video!

  • okay

they replaced the r143's on the L&M with the R160A-1's

so where did the r143's go?

  • The R143s are still on the L and are mixed with R160As. The M on weekends runs R160As full time for OPTO.

  • how many R143's are there?

if this is true then they must have had very little R143's

  • a total of 212 R143s were ordered in 2001-03. they were only meant to provide extra service on the L, but they couldn't keep up with fast growth of Williamsburg

  • hardcore train fanatics round these patrs I see!

  • hmm whats the difference between R160 and R143

  • The R143s and R160s have different sounds when starting and slowing, the American flag is placed below the NYCT logo on the R143, but above it on the R160, the blind end storm doors are one piece on an R143, but two piece on an R160, and the interior side signs are LCD in an R143 but artwork in an R160

  • is this rush hour becuse people are standing.

  • why did u block me.i thought we were friends

  • to lirr56890 why did u block me i thought we were friends

  • i thought we were friends. why did u block me?

  • so why doesn't the R160B have the same propulsion?

  • Because its a different model of train.

  • AdTranz is no longer around, having been taken over by Bombardier. Therefore, these motors are no longer available since BBD replaced these with their MITRAC motors.

So, when Alstom and Kawasaki partnered for the R160, Alstom of course used their own motors (same as on the R142) and Kawasaki went with Siemens, who also supplies motors for the PATH PA-5 cars.

  • I love that lil whining sound it makes when it stops and pulls off

  • I take this train to Montrose Ave. to get to school :)

  • These trains sound just like MARTA are they made by Breda?

  • No, these are built by Kawasaki. The MBTA's Type 8 Green Line cars, which are built by Breda, sound exactly like this as well. All 3 mentioned cars use similar motors and is why they all sound alike.

  • Did anyone get out of the car? Or were you not pointing the camera when they did. Its like they stopped at the station and no one got off.

  • alright

  • on the 6 PLEASE!!!!

  • K I got a quick video of a 6 pulling into union square

  • hey please record more on the 6 train

  • Move videos to come tomorrow.

  • you do have a point there to think first then say it. sorry about that.

  • man, the sound both coming in and out of the station is kind of annoying but they are new.

  • What do you mean they are new? That sound is coming from the propulsion motors. Know what your talking about before talking out of your ass ok? TY :)

  • Perfect!You got a crowded L train,got the announcement

got to hear the propulsion.Thank you!

  • those new trains look very cool, hey were they in service in christmas of 2006, because thats when I went to ny

  • Yes they were in service and have been for a few years. You can find them only the L line and on the M on weekends when they run the 4 car shuttles.

  • WHY DOES THE M TRAIN ONLY HAVE 4 CARS

  • Because its a 4 car shuttle, appose to the 8 car R42s that are ran on the weekdays because people don't take the M as much on the weekend. And its also because of OPTO. OPTO is one person train operation where the train operator is operating the train and also does the role of the conducter who opens and closes the door. This is why 4 cars are used.

  • oh, ok
