@javierb415 Most people don't know it because either they didn't take chemistry or they didn't find it important enough to remember and the government has nothing to do with it. I perform electrolysis every year as a demonstration, it's how we manufacture certain elements and compounds.

Is that really how they get chlorine? Would surely take loaaaads of heat to break an ionic bond, more than it'd be worth, anyway?
