Where you going for a DawahFilms impersonation? You sound and act (as in your body language and movements) just like him in this video. All the time while I was watching it I kept thinking of his videos.
@Stephen5000 Im an atheist, I would agree with you in a lot of things if we talk about religion. The question is: how "holy" is your view for you? Some theists see atheists as dangerous fools with no morals, and some atheists see theists as meek sheep, with blind morals, willing to do wrong. Spot the differences in both views. Both views are simplifications. And both aren't very constructive, they block any communication. There will always be theists, and atheists, so we better get along.
This video is great. Im an atheist myself and i totally recognize myself in some of this. I just think its a pity that so many atheist goes on hating on theist for fun. Im trying to let them think whatever they do as long as they dont start shit.
They may make him smarter. Glasses focus light into the cornea, creating a clearer image, increasing the detail of imagery being sent to his brain. It’s easy to accept that this additional information is stimulating more brain activity. How could more sensory information not increase neurogenic activity?
Given this information, we have only two conclusions to come to:
1. Glasses make you smarter (and this isn’t a false dichotomy)
Organized religion has caused most of the world's tragedies. I simply can't understand how supposedly intelligent people can accept such hogwash. It is just a collection of tales.
Really? Because with the exception of a few notable events, such as the crusades, many of the "world's worst tragedies" end up being blamed on religion when, in fact, there was one of the following root causes: lack of resources, people fighting over who owns what land, the desire for control / power, and so on.
I'm an atheist, but I refuse to participate in this "us verse them" bullshit. Groups centered around hate / stereotyping rarely do much good.
Latumway, I've become one of those apathetic atheists who doesn't give a shit. I find it strange, but for a comedy video, that had a lot of true content xD Although, for me it wasn't a Linkin Park song...it was XTC >.> <.<
At first, I didn't get it, but I think maybe I now do... both of your videos show what people say (audio) vs. what the other side hears (subtitles).
So... in just the same way we hear "it's complicated => God" when they say "look at all the beauty", when we say "I've researched various sources, I realized there is no God", they hear "after reading The God Delusion, I realized Richard Dawkins is God".
Am I on the right track, or am I full of bollocks? lol
I'm wondering. Are you trying to say there are twats on both sides of the spectrum ? Or is it just a fun idea you thought you could work out ? Either way I loved it.
Unfortunately I found myself relating to this video. Replace Linkin Park with Marilyn Manson, and Apple with Microsoft, and this video is basically me three years ago.
I thought the video I just watched from ghostofthedayinperson via recommendation functioned so well ironically as a sad indictment of the state of satire here until I discovered closed captioning for the interpretively impaired.
Lol, I'd agree with most of that except the mohummad drawing day part. That was more of a standing up to people who threaten people with violence thing, it's not about offending people. The appropriate christian response would have been to threaten violence back (eye for an eye) but we just drew even more pictures that they didn't like thus making their threats achieve the exact opposite of what they wanted. Apparently this was worthy of criticism somehow?
@parallelsdumaurier No God, no Crusades. Your point? On the other end of the spectrum, there are Catholics and Muslims who have peaceful and fulfilling lives because of their faiths, that don't involve running through people with swords or blowing them up just because they don't think the same way. Honestly, you could say this for just about anything with a downside, and just about everything on Earth has some sort of a downside.
Wow, it is just staggering how many people missed the point of this video. Did I miss some kind of word puzzle you slipped in, or am I just overestimating the intelligence of others?

@CompleteRationality Maybe that part was the religion. Maybe they're religion is what made it a suicide attack instead of just a bomb. Maybe their interpretation of Islam encouraged them.
But the MOTIVATION for the attacks, what caused something to happen instead of nothing, was political.
@CompleteRationality They manipulated it themselves. I'm not arguing that religion wasn't a factor. Hell, I've said that I do generally think that religion does more bad than good. But saying 'religion caused 9/11' is grossly ignorant and reactionary.
@LatumWay They manipulated themselves? Did you think about that statement before you typed it? People were indoctrinated. The 911 attackers were *influenced* by religion. Of course, the people in charge had a *political* agenda, but religion was used to convince them that there was something good about killing themselves along with thousands of others. I'm not generalizing *religion* here and saying that religion is evil, rather I'm saying that there is evil spawned from religion.
@CompleteRationality I said they manipulated IT themselves. They used their interpretation of Islam to justify their attacks. Remember - terrorism and suicide attacks are not solely the realm of religious extremism. My point is, many believe that given the circumstances, an attack was inevitable. The question is, how did religion effect how the attack manifested? That is the question you need to ask yourself. Stop tell me religion caused attacks like 9/11. Its simply not that simple.
@LatumWay Of course it caused it. How do you think that you are going to recruit people to commit suicide unless they are brainwashed enough to believe that a paradise is waiting for them?
If you want to educate yourself, you should read "Knowing the Enemy" by Mary Habeck. It's a credible window into Jihadist ideology.
It is from the terrorists viewpoint and shows how bin Laden made his decisions based on the lack of U.S. response to Beirut and Somalia.
@parallelsdumaurier "It is from the terrorists viewpoint and shows how bin Laden made his decisions based on the lack of U.S. response to Beirut and Somalia."
I'm sorry, but that is a complete failure as a justification. Al-Qaeda has reasons for wanting to attack the infidels in the first place, and these are the cause of their Jihadist campaign. The fact that the west did not respond harshly to earlier such campaigns is not a cause. For the Jihadists it's a sign that Allah is with them.
@parallelsdumaurier I have to say though, it's amazing that anyone could come to such a conclusion as what you did there. It's not like there's a lack of material of Jihadists clearly stating their motivation as tools of Allah in bringing about the Islamic domination promised in the Qur'an. Does that book you recommended not deal with actual Jihadist doctrine or propaganda at all? You realize that these people, and al-Qaeda in particular, believe they defeated the USSR with Allah's help?
@parallelsdumaurier Things such as that are the actual motivations for attacking the US. They are acting on traditional Islamic imperialist doctrine, the US running the USSR bankrupt in the cold war is misinterpreted as a ragtag band of clowns in Afghanistan being assisted in battle by Allah like in the stories in the Qur'an, and now that the first superpower had been defeated it was time to take on the next one and subsequently reestablish the caliphate. That's their reasoning in a nutshell.
@parallelsdumaurier How do the Tamil Tigers - a secular group who invented the suidice bombing technology and modus operandi - recruit their suicide bombers?
@parallelsdumaurier "How do you think that you are going to recruit people to commit suicide unless they are brainwashed enough to believe that a paradise is waiting for them?"
How about if you convince them a bunch of their eggs were stolen? That will convince some to sacrifice themselves, using their bodies as projectiles, in a relentless retributive suicide campaign.
Wow. That's not much different than saying, no Arabs, no 911.
A more accurate statement would be:
No *illegal occupation* by the United States and Israel in Arab lands, no 911. It's really that simple. If you think it's religion, you've dupped yourself.
I’m an atheist as well, and I’d love it if it were true that simply removing religion would stop this. But then you learn why it happened, and you realize that’s an Atheist pipe dream.
@LatumWay "Extremist religion effected the way it was carried out a great deal, but it did not cause it."
You're exactly right. Bin Laden didn't board any of those planes. On that end, you need a religious extremist. Not too many people would commit suicide for political rewards.
@fdasherv "Not too many people would commit suicide for political rewards"
Tell that to the Tamil Tigers, some of the terrorists who tried to assassinate Alexander III, Rudolph Christoff von Gershoff (he tried to kill Hitler) and the Viet Minh.
@Afriboy10 No doubt some throughout history were altruistic. But most suicide warriors get heavenly rewards, their families taken care of, or infamy. And they have to be cultivated. von Gersdorff lived to a ripe old age. Patrick Henry (give me liberty or give me death...) lived to a ripe old age. Kamikaze pilots needed to be drugged. Sultan's assassins were given hashish. A normal mindset notably does not rush off to death unless it's been whipped into a frenzy.
@fdasherv Altruistic is not the word I'd use. Fanatical, maybe. Again, *a lot* of suicide attackers believe they get rewards, not most. von Gersdorff only lived to an old age, because he failed, but the intent was there. Also, propaganda in many respects is sometimes all the cultivation some will need. Not all the Kamikaze pilots were drugged. Some really bought in to the "Japan destined to take over the world" rhetoric. For others, an altered state of mind is needed to carry out those tasks.
@CompleteRationality Your sentence is weird. By using "Although" you introduce the notion that the second clause of your sentence will contradict your first clause, but then you just say the same thing. So I'm not sure if you think religion was the cause of 9/11 or not. In any case, 9/11 was more a result of U.S. occupation of Middle Eastern territories and their support for oppressive Middle Eastern dictators.
@dustinjt I used "although" to indicate an acknowledgement of Muslim extremism to separate them from the general Islamic community. I very clearly said that religion was the cause, or at least I thought I was clear.
I prefer monotypes to stereotypes, heck I heard that next year they're coming out with HiDeftypes (can't wait for that), but this is classically brilliant. Someone below said to do agnostics, please.. .keep going... hit all the major religions and anti-religions. Needed these laughs today. Two Thumbs WAY up!
Agnosticism deals with knowledge, theism/atheism deals with belief.
You're either an atheist or a theist AND at the same time be a gnostic /agnostic.
I myself is an agnostic atheist, which means I live my life as if there is no god, I'm pretty damn sure there isn't one, but if someone asked me "Do you actually KNOW that there's no god?" I would say no.
Yep, I used to be EXACTLY like this when I first became an atheist. I like to think that I've now elevated *slightly*, but I probably haven't as much as I'd like.
I understand the comedy here, man. And I understand what you're doing after the whole "Atheist community is dead" thing. But don't forget, you were in the mix. I mean, you were one of the major players in the mix. And while the us/them thing may be fading away, as best it should by now, I don't really understand why you're taking the distant, comedic position of neutrality. "we're all stupidly closed minded." Noted. But after all this time arguing your position, it's a bit dramatic.
I used to be like that when I had just 'converted'. Looking at how similar my views back then were with some of the views you were taking the piss out of here, feelsbadman.jpg
i'm atheist and i find this very insulting...how dear you imply i would buy apple

Although 911 has been classified as religious extremism, religion was still the cause.
CompleteRationality 3 months ago 6
@CompleteRationality No it wasn't. Extremist religion effected the way it was carried out a great deal, but it did not cause it.
LatumWay 3 months ago 8
@LatumWay What convinced those people to fly planes into buildings then?
CompleteRationality 3 months ago
@CompleteRationality Maybe that part was the religion. Maybe they're religion is what made it a suicide attack instead of just a bomb. Maybe their interpretation of Islam encouraged them.
But the MOTIVATION for the attacks, what caused something to happen instead of nothing, was political.
LatumWay 3 months ago
@LatumWay And the device used to manipulate them into doing it was religion.
CompleteRationality 3 months ago
@CompleteRationality They manipulated it themselves. I'm not arguing that religion wasn't a factor. Hell, I've said that I do generally think that religion does more bad than good. But saying 'religion caused 9/11' is grossly ignorant and reactionary.
LatumWay 3 months ago
@LatumWay They manipulated themselves? Did you think about that statement before you typed it? People were indoctrinated. The 911 attackers were *influenced* by religion. Of course, the people in charge had a *political* agenda, but religion was used to convince them that there was something good about killing themselves along with thousands of others. I'm not generalizing *religion* here and saying that religion is evil, rather I'm saying that there is evil spawned from religion.
CompleteRationality 3 months ago
@CompleteRationality I said they manipulated IT themselves. They used their interpretation of Islam to justify their attacks. Remember - terrorism and suicide attacks are not solely the realm of religious extremism. My point is, many believe that given the circumstances, an attack was inevitable. The question is, how did religion effect how the attack manifested? That is the question you need to ask yourself. Stop tell me religion caused attacks like 9/11. Its simply not that simple.
LatumWay 3 months ago
@LatumWay Of course it caused it. How do you think that you are going to recruit people to commit suicide unless they are brainwashed enough to believe that a paradise is waiting for them?
If you want to educate yourself, you should read "Knowing the Enemy" by Mary Habeck. It's a credible window into Jihadist ideology.
It is from the terrorists viewpoint and shows how bin Laden made his decisions based on the lack of U.S. response to Beirut and Somalia.
No Allah no 911.
parallelsdumaurier 3 months ago 15
@parallelsdumaurier You can make terrorism without killing yourself.

SnipeZuDown 3 months ago
@parallelsdumaurier "It is from the terrorists viewpoint and shows how bin Laden made his decisions based on the lack of U.S. response to Beirut and Somalia."
I'm sorry, but that is a complete failure as a justification. Al-Qaeda has reasons for wanting to attack the infidels in the first place, and these are the cause of their Jihadist campaign. The fact that the west did not respond harshly to earlier such campaigns is not a cause. For the Jihadists it's a sign that Allah is with them.
Gnomefro 3 months ago
@parallelsdumaurier I have to say though, it's amazing that anyone could come to such a conclusion as what you did there. It's not like there's a lack of material of Jihadists clearly stating their motivation as tools of Allah in bringing about the Islamic domination promised in the Qur'an. Does that book you recommended not deal with actual Jihadist doctrine or propaganda at all? You realize that these people, and al-Qaeda in particular, believe they defeated the USSR with Allah's help?
Gnomefro 3 months ago
@parallelsdumaurier Things such as that are the actual motivations for attacking the US. They are acting on traditional Islamic imperialist doctrine, the US running the USSR bankrupt in the cold war is misinterpreted as a ragtag band of clowns in Afghanistan being assisted in battle by Allah like in the stories in the Qur'an, and now that the first superpower had been defeated it was time to take on the next one and subsequently reestablish the caliphate. That's their reasoning in a nutshell.
Gnomefro 3 months ago
@parallelsdumaurier How do the Tamil Tigers - a secular group who invented the suidice bombing technology and modus operandi - recruit their suicide bombers?
No Allah - no Tamils?
Obviously not.
So is there more to it than religion?
Clearly.

@parallelsdumaurier wrote: "No Allah no 911."

Not too many people would commit suicide for political rewards.
fdasherv 3 months ago
@fdasherv "Not too many people would commit suicide for political rewards"
Tell that to the Tamil Tigers, some of the terrorists who tried to assassinate Alexander III, Rudolph Christoff von Gershoff (he tried to kill Hitler) and the Viet Minh.
Afriboy10 3 months ago
@Afriboy10 No doubt some throughout history were altruistic. But most suicide warriors get heavenly rewards, their families taken care of, or infamy. And they have to be cultivated. von Gersdorff lived to a ripe old age. Patrick Henry (give me liberty or give me death...) lived to a ripe old age. Kamikaze pilots needed to be drugged. Sultan's assassins were given hashish. A normal mindset notably does not rush off to death unless it's been whipped into a frenzy.
fdasherv 3 months ago
@fdasherv Altruistic is not the word I'd use. Fanatical, maybe. Again, *a lot* of suicide attackers believe they get rewards, not most. von Gersdorff only lived to an old age, because he failed, but the intent was there. Also, propaganda in many respects is sometimes all the cultivation some will need. Not all the Kamikaze pilots were drugged. Some really bought in to the "Japan destined to take over the world" rhetoric. For others, an altered state of mind is needed to carry out those tasks.

@LatumWay "No it wasn't. Extremist religion effected the way it was carried out a great deal, but it did not cause it."
It's difficult to take such an inane point of view seriously. The Jihadist doctrine is what:
a) Convinces muslims of their divine right to be the leaders of humanity
b) Has justified Islamic imperialism,
c) Dehumanizes non muslims
d) Promises eternal rewards for dying to promote Islam
Gnomefro 3 months ago
@CompleteRationality Your sentence is weird. By using "Although" you introduce the notion that the second clause of your sentence will contradict your first clause, but then you just say the same thing. So I'm not sure if you think religion was the cause of 9/11 or not. In any case, 9/11 was more a result of U.S. occupation of Middle Eastern territories and their support for oppressive Middle Eastern dictators.
dustinjt 3 months ago
@dustinjt I used "although" to indicate an acknowledgement of Muslim extremism to separate them from the general Islamic community. I very clearly said that religion was the cause, or at least I thought I was clear.

I prefer monotypes to stereotypes, heck I heard that next year they're coming out with HiDeftypes (can't wait for that), but this is classically brilliant. Someone below said to do agnostics, please.. .keep going... hit all the major religions and anti-religions. Needed these laughs today. Two Thumbs WAY up!

Make one for "agnostics" please :3
Impmon51 3 months ago
@Impmon51
