  • Apparently she was Montessori educated - I am unsure at what point in her life and for how long. She was certainly a very funny, confident individual. Love to watch her.

  • The film was great! Meryl Streep was amazing just like Julia...

  • i have seen the movie but from what i seen here i may have to see it

  • LET THAT GIRL COOK!

  • Ahahaha she's so blunt

  • I don't think Meryl's performance was at all insulting. Julia Child WAS over the top! She wasn't just some stupid beige chef who happened to get a show, her personality was strange to people, but they adored her because it was endearing. She was always positive, rebounded from sadness and loss amazingly and genuinely enjoyed cooking and teaching people to cook. Meryl Streep did a great job of bringing all that out and worked hard to honor Julia Child's personality. I say "well done"

  • 1:01 - 1:03

    Don't f*ck with Julia, okay ?!

  • I'm coming to You Tube soon! Sub now!

  • She's so cute lol

  • awwww she really did talk the way meryl streep made her sound in the movie lol.....so sweet =)...i just fell in love with her personality

  • this made me realized meryl streep's julia child was nothing like the actual woman. don't get me wrong it was a great movie, having no prior knowledge, but this little clip makes me think i'd be quite fond of the real julia

  • @MsSkateboardP on the contrary - even Julia Child's family said that watching Meryl Streep play Julia was almost creepy in how well she did the mannerisms and nuances of voice. She did an excellent job.

  • @hotwaiter really? ohh... well go figure. haha that's pretty funny then... and i think i'd like to see more of her in any case

  • YAY!!!!

  • man she is soooooo hot what a hottie....back in her day

  • Look =Kool

  • Aww dont be mean about Meryl she work hard for this role, she was awesome as julia xxxxxxx

  • @LovelyPennyLane

No, she wasn't awesome as Julia. She played her as a mindless twit.

My former boss met Mrs. Child many times when she would appear on the late night program that he worked for and he was disgusted by Meryl Streep's portrayal of her.

It's bad enough that the first feature length film to be made about Mrs. Child's extraordinary life paralleled the life of a blogger that Mrs. Child couldn't have given two shits about anyway, they added insult to injury by making a poor film.

  • @thegirl44

Preeeetty sure that's why they made the movie after she died.

They pissed her off once with the blogging.

  • 0:48 What the hell was that?

  • @FLICKGEEK lol looks like something out of the flintstones.. xD

  • before the movie came out u could get all her episodes here, what the hell, god i hate that, money money, money

  • @maidmoira

Didn't we pay for these shows in the first place? I paid my television tax and still donate to the PBS drives. Shouldn't I get a cut of the shit load of money that's being made off of the sale of Mrs. Child's DVDs?

  • before the movie came out u could get all her episodes here, what the hell, god i hate that, money money, money

  • 0:46 what was that a shark??!!!

  • @n6611 im guessing its a shark a small whale or a blubbery seal:)

  • awesome movie....julia child is adorable ..

  • awesome movie....

  • BONJOURRRRR!!!!!!! lol. love it :)

  • the films is a masterpiece

  • hahhaa they are both awesome

  • I love you Julia!!!

  • but i wonder why mrs child disliked the book julie write about her, not nice:(

  • see if you can get this dvd

you will have so much fun in anitbes cooking drinking wine and change ...

  • Hated the movie! Amy Adams is extremely annoying with her ugly hair (hairstylist should be crucified). Stupid storyline, pointless ending. The only two characters who made this movie semi-bearable were Stanley Tucci and Meryl Streep. I can only say that I would rather have watched a Julia Child's story then some talentless, 30 year old writer's cries to the community, "Oh, poor me, my friends treat me as a failure..... Oh, wait, I am one..." No wonder the real Julia Child hated her.

  • @JuliettaCouture Well said.

  • @JuliettaCouture totally agree! It was one of the rare mivies in which I detested M. Streep's acting.

  • @JuliettaCouture I agree. Except that at times, I also found Meryl extremely annoying.

"No wonder the real Julia Child hated her." Look at the integrity, the incredibly hard work and challenges Julia went through to write that book. In a time when women weren't expected to accomplish anything. Just going to Le Cordon Bleu was HUGE. Powell was and is a nobody who came along at a time when a stupid, whiney blog can make you a star. She essentially plagiarized Julia's LIFE to make her fortune.

  • @TreasureOne Famous NYC restaurant critic Gael Greene said it best. " I still love Julia, not so sure about Julie."

  • Gotta love that Julia. But what in tha heck is that gigantic slab of meat on 0:46?? I was like, "Holy...!!!"

  • @MariSan88

Looks like a big ass tuna to me.

  • Both of them is just great and funny!

  • I agree that Meryl overdid her a little bit. Sometimes I thought she was making it up!

  • meryl overdid her a little

  • @rimmel10 i agree! she started to irritateme a bit during the movie.

  • Of course she did. On purpose. It was part of her role, just hear Juli Child for a second, they're the same.

I think she was annoyingly wonderful.

  • Good ol Julia!!!

  • ok; just; an; fyi; to; everyone; that; thinks; meryl; did; a; terrible; job; and; had; the; portrayel; down; all; wrong; she; said; in; multiple; interv4iew; and; in; people; magizine; and; ladies; home; journal; the; like; 2009; or; 8; addition; the; she; gav4e; herself; an; out; that; she; was; julie; powells; impression; and; even; nora; ephron; the; directors; invision; of; julia; i; myself; think; after; seeing; the; movie; then; reading; the; book; that; miss.streep; did; a; great; job

  • @diegostfu

    it is a tuna fish @ 0:46

  • wtf is that at 0:46 ???

  • the movie is actually based on a true story about a girl trying to be just like julia child!!!!!!!! i love her cooking!!!!!

  • no its not, its about a girl cooking her way through julia childs cookbook. thats it. read the book.

  • i've never heard of this woman before....until now....so lovely

  • @Caroliney27

are you kidding? I think the exact opposite!! I cant believe the accent resemblance! It's as if i hear the same person talking!! :D I havent seen the other oscar nominated movies, but Streep is awesome in it as always!

  • i feel like we cant possibly be even talking about the same movie! i dont understand how the honking, loud, and stupid woman meryl portrays in the movie is at all comparable to the intelligent and beloved visionary who brought french cuisine into american homes. i urge you to watch some of the youtube videos that actually compare clips of the movie directly to clips from julia's real show- i think you will see how different they are.

  • Meryl has stated that her interpretation was of how JULIE must have thought of Julia; she was not trying to imitate her as she was in real life. And I do agree that no one, not even the fabulous Meryl Streep, would ever be able to BE Julia Child. I think no one would dare film a movie solely on the life of our beloved French Chef, for it would be a travesty indeed!

  • but thats the very point- WHY do a movie about julia child and base it off of a staurday night live impression?? its absolutely, ridiculously absurd to the highest degree-

like doing a movie on bill clinton and using darrel hammond for all your reference material?? what?? why??

how is that okay!! its not!! especially since she was such a beloved and cherished persona . . . its absolutely crazy, and a travesty in itself!

  • u know what, i support u on this one.. just saw julie and julia awhile ago.. see i love meryl streep but her portrayal of julia child seemed too comical for me. m watching d real julia child's vids on youtube r8 now.. meryl's julia is nowhere near this julia. so thumbs up 4 u!

  • also, you should read her autobiography "my life in france". after reading it and falling in love with her, i think you will see that meryl's portrayal of julia was not only off the mark, but that it was an insult to the memory of the kind and spirited woman whose likable personality made so many fall in love with her!

  • O_O XD THAT WHOLE CHICKEN part of them all lined up together and her beating the fishes head off is just WRONG XD LOL

  • Bon Appetit!

  • Julia était une cuisinière étonnante, et bien que son livre de cuisinier ait été signifié pour l'Américain serventless, il nous a aidés les personnes françaises aussi bien. Julia longtemps de phase!

  • GOD BLESS JULIA CHILD!.

Miss child you have shown us the joys of cooking and ways of healthy eating we will never forget you and we all Love you!

  • @DeRevolutionibus Not a bit of it...It was an homage...and quite a good one.

  • @DeRevolutionibus for god sakes, its a movie... let it go.

  • Meryl Streep is interpreting Julia Child, not imitating her...and that is what actors do!

  • I just watched the movie, and it's truly amazing!

  • Julie and Julia is a must! Viva La Julia!

  • The film "Julie & Julia" made me like Julia Child as well as Meryl Streep even more! My strong advice is to buy the DVD of the film!

  • i JUST watched that film. Fantastic story, and fantastic directing!

Julia child is halarious! Its like she's drunk all the ti9me!

  • My wife and I watched 'Julie/Julia' last night...a wonderful tribute to the lady. Stanley Tucci's portrayal of her husband Paul was spot on...passionate, warm, funny, sexy, and the food...dang, we love good movies with food, and this is one of the best...Bon Appetit!!!

  • @oldschoolruler omfg me too :D Awesome tribute. I love the movie

  • From the begining of the 80's I admit that I learned to cook with Julia Child...indeed all what I know about cooking was because of her...she really inspired me....thank you Julia!!!!

  • I loved watching Julia Child's cooking shows. I also loved watching Sara Moulton, David Rosengarten, Frugal Gourmet and all those old-timers who really focused on good food and cooking technique. A lot of shows on Food Network today are about indulging in the sensations and not really about the knowledge of food or the knowledge of cooking.

  • Keen observations. I do miss the old shows on PBS. They were more down to earth. I have seen the movie 3 times. I was a fan of Julia Child, and miss her oh so much. The old show with Chef Pepin and Julia is still on in reruns.

  • Meryl was as per usual amazing in this movie-she is a Master in her trade

  • WOW !!! I just cannot get over how amazing Meryl Streep is in the Julie & Julia movie, she nailed the accent down perfectly, I shouldn't be surprised Meryl is in my book the top actress of our time. Really glad they made this movie, I learned a lot I didn't know about the real Julia Childs....

  • She was amazing and very funny and I always enjoyed her cooking show more than any others especially today. She was one of a kind!

  • she had great sense of humour

    bless

  • Don't be ridiculous!!!!!

  • Je lui adore!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • you should watch julia child on pbs video they have more recipes and to watch!!!!!!!

  • holy macarroni jejeje :P good job meryl

    Hey mali :)

  • I saw the movie today. I regret that Julie never got her wish. And, I think that Meryl Streep is an amazing woman.

  • Meryl Streep acts really good as Julia Child!!!

  • are you crazy? she is outrageously beautiful! repping for us regular, normal hard working, strong capable women, who have smarts and strength..go Ms. Julia!

  • don t look at people like that..she was a genius in the kitchen and she lived her life in the way most people should..so that comment of yours..laim

  • I've seen the movie yesterday and cooked "Boeuf Bourguignon" the first time in my life with the original receipe.

Thanks for the great performance to Meryl Streep.

  • Yes! Me too, we went with my girlfriend and the next day boeuf bourguignon was on the table!!! We also tried the roast chicken with herbs (real yummy!) and the cheese soufle. Today I'm trying that chocolate cake and I'm intending to eat it the same way they did on the movie!!!!!!!

  • Just watched the movie yesterday and I must say I am so obsessed with Julia Chid now! And of Meryl Streep did a great job acting as Julia Child!

  • As an Australian, i had never heard of Julia Child, but certainly sparked my interest seeing the movie. She seemed quite a character and love cooking, so going to watch all i can on youtube

  • Meryl Streep as Julia Child was Amazing!

  • Totally agreed. Once in a while you have such a dream match between an actor/actress and the real person. Meryl Streep playing Julia should be a classic! (Tom Hanks once joked that Kevin Costner should be the first choice of Apollo 13 for the resemblance... I digress....)

  • Meryl Streep did a phenomenal job, seriously her portrait as Julia was excellent! =)

  • I wish someone would post this program here on Youtube please. We didn't get to see it in Britain. Some old Julia Child episodes would be brilliant too. We'd love to see them.

  • HAHA..Meryl Streep did a great job!

  • In my opinion, Meryl Streep was the perfect choice for Julia in the best new movie I've seen this year!

  • I remeber her as a child too. I want to order the tapes of her shows for a girls weekend. She's one in a Zillion. Can never be another as intriguing, intersting, unpretencious, fun and lovely , as Julia.

  • i used to watch julia child when i was little and can still remember step by step how to make things i will never in a million years make. but, i know how! tripe with pigs feet is one of them.

  • love her she was a funny woman an a great cook!!!!

  • I saw the butter roasted chicken episode just yesterday!!

  • I rembmer her, I grew up hearing her when I was much younger.

  • C'est si bon! My late mother adored her, and so do I still! I took my daughter, no quite 14, to see the movie this past weekend. She fell absolutely in love with Julia! However, both of us never want to see a pound of butter again for about three years (we ate too much popcorn ;)

  • 6'2" and a voice like a Monty Python woman! I've done the math.

  • haha

  • what was that flip from i mean what episode

  • I just saw the movie and it was wonderful!!! Julia was a gem and will never be forgotten.

  • What is she making when she does the flip? Does anyone know?

  • she was making an omelete

  • wasn't it an omelet?

  • The legend that is Julia Child (Bon Appetit!) lives on in pride! Merci beaucoup Julia!

  • She was just great

  • What is that enormous slab of meat in front of her when she is holding up all the different knives?! It looks like some kind of seal?

  • I'm not sure what that was, but sure was scary-looking!

  • i believe that is a tuna.

  • Tuna

  • Looks like a tuna

  • haha that's what i was wondering!

  • inspiring and fun! loved the movie buying the tv shows on dvd from pbs and the book

  • "Julie and Julia" was such an amazing movie, I love Meryl Streep's portrayal of Julia!

After watching that movie, I had a sudden urge to cook, and now, I really miss her. T-T

I grew up watching her cooking shows, before I discovered foodnetwork.

  • ME TOO! I want to cook everything now!

  • The movie was amazing absolutely great, and Meryl is always wonderful at Acting. This inspired me also to cook more even though im 16 lol

  • Oh, I know what you mean!

  • I'm 13 and her recipes are like magic! I did her chocolate cake and it was DELICIOUS. I plan on making a lot of her desserts.

  • Saw the movie last night. It was great! Meryl was right on the mark playing Julia Child. All the characters in the movie played their parts so well. I bought the book today and cant wait till the movie comes out on DVD. Go see!!!

  • At the Height of Julia Childs shows (circa 1960s-1970s), it seemed as if majority of the population didn't take themselves too seriously and, if they did, it was in such a silly way. USA was a lighter and jovial place to live in back then. Sighs...

  • Um, you mean when assassinations, Civil Rights struggles, and Vietnam, to name a few things, were happening? How silly of people to take such things seriously!

  • Comment removed

  • Vietnam.....

  • very true but I think she paved the way for Chefs on TV to take things light and have fun with cooking. Certainly guys like Bobby Flay and Alton Brown have expressed that on their TV shows

  • 0:46

When she holds the knives and saw and mallet up hahahahaahah!!!

  • Omg! I thought the movie was an exaggeration of her personality but I was wrong. It's spot on! I love this. I want to see the movie now ^_^

  • Wonder what she would have thought of the chef challenges on the Food Channel and Bravo? I personally think she would have hated them, as I do!

  • i am planning to see this movie along with my mom who loved Julia Child. I can't wait!!!!

  • Julia Child was soo cute! and Meryl Really rocks playing her

  • This show is a must see. Julia is a treasure, and I do think I was watching her 50 years ago. I learned an enormous amount from her, including how to make an omelette the *right* way. And of course we occasionally learned how *not* to do things. She was an amazing lady.

  • ever see that guy from river cottage uk:)

  • AWSOME i love Julia Child!!!

  • I'm not so sure the movie won't be bad, but I have to go see it regardless just because I think Julia Child was such a cool lady.

  • Delightful video!
