The LV Monorail is a great way to get from one end of the Strip to the other if you're not too lazy to walk through a casino to get to it.
If you don't like it, go ahead and take the bus on the Strip and be stuck in traffic or waiting on some idiot to come up with the money for his ticket.
make it go along the median of the strip from mandalay to wynn, cut the fare costs by half, and make the hotel owners divide the costs up for building the line. Voila!
Except last I checked they're making sufficient revenues to cover costs and pay a portion of the debt, the problem is that they aren't paying the debt fast enough thus the chapter 11 filing.
It doesn't mean they're completely failed and it sure as hell doesn't mean that they're going out of business especially considering that they're still planning on the airport extension.
I think Disney got unlucky. I seem to remember reading they couldn't get the AC working reliably. I was there this past July and it wasn't that bad, but they did have a notice if the temp went too high (I think 96 degrees), the monorail closes.
@caltrain2 Wrong. The design was done in Kingston Ontario Canada. The only common part is the bearing grease. I helped on the design done by Bombardier.
@scottman624 you are right! i don't remember posting that comment. but what i think i ment was its is based on the current disney mark vi monorails in florida.
MGM and Bally's bought 2 of WDW's old Mark IV monorails and had a line built between their resorts. That is part of this system, with new Mark VII Monorails built by Bombadier.

If this was a government transit program we'd be hearing about how fantastically well it's doing considering that it PAYS FOR ITSELF.

didn't Las Vegas get one of Disney's Monorails? I seem to recall reading somewhere that they bought an old one from them
