  • Mashallah, May Allah Bless his soul. Ameen

  • what movie is this?

  • After consulting with Ustad Amir Khan's senior disciple Dr. Ajit Singh Paintal, Khan Saab is singing Bhatiyar and

    Ramakali and

    Desi

    Shudh Sarang

    Yaman Kalyan

    Bageshwari

    Rageshwari

  • He is my also dada guru or ustaad he is fantastic..

  • In the beginning nis din bisrit bandish is in raga bhatiyar in the same raga on shenaie after the conversation between ustad shagirid and some other people bandish in bahirav raga darbar dhaoun then it renders to raga ramkali after ramkli it is desi todi with komal and shudh rishabh, next to this is raga shudh sarang on shenaie after this with ataan begins raga yaman more bama tum sio lage and shubh gunanan deejie gunijan, sa ni sa ni dha.. notes are of raga bgeshwri >malkouns at end chanrkons

  • lajawaab............ thanx sabrang ji for uploading this great piece of art. but it's not a taan of todi after shuddh sarang...infact its multani & the bandish is 'TUM SO LAGLI PREET'. thanx again

  • @mousiqui statement:1 if u hear the taan khan saab goes from ni dha pa ma(decending) which stand for mo,and then ma dha ni sa re ga (ascending) which stands for rey so both words joins as morey,

and balma from re top 2 sa, this sections ma dha ni sa re ga which according to notations khan saab went in the taan which gives the todi ang whereby multani ang gives ma dha ni sa ga re sa, i went to notations rather then bandish!

  • @sabrang1430 It's quite distinctly multaani. The notes that you outline, on closer inspection, sound like

ni ni dha pa ma ga | ma pa ni sa ga ga | sa ni dha pa ma pa | ma ga sa(re) ni sa '

where the (re) is kaNaswara, and ' denotes a space. This "ma ga sa (re) ni sa" is quite typical of multaani, not to mention the first three blocks as well. And of course, the words that follow are on "ma...ga re.. sa(re) ni sa". No offence to your fine musical sense, but fairly confident this is multaani.

  • @varunachar87 true saying sir, when khan saab say morey on the notations ma pa ni sa ga ga when going up,the morey khan saab add the rishab in ascending b4 touching gandar, which is not allowed in multani, rishab kanswar only applies in descending, not ascending,an actions like that cancel multani out despite having these fragment! please give view,i change it from multani 2 todi when posting this video,i had same view, but when khan saab added the rishab ascending wise, that change da game

  • @sabrang1430 I'm fairly certain he does not touch re while ascending. If at all re is audible, I would consider it accidental, since the other phrases (for example the pa ni sa route) are unmistakably multani. The whole sequence gives a strong multaani feel, and as you rightly mentioned, multani fits into the raagmaala in terms of time (afternoon). One accidental re cancelling this strong prolonged effect of multani is unlikely.

Anyway, let us leave aside the technicalities and enjoy the music.

  • @sabrang1430 i dont see any ascending rishab?? it is very clearly Multani. there is no ascending dhaivat either. there is clearly a pancham typically of multani. in fact the ma-pa-ni-sa is a dead giveaway.

  • @shankyxyz hear it in the taan

  • @mousiqui statement:2 the raag shud have been multani bcoz shud sarang is an afternoon raag and so is multani, therefore is multani shud have been rendered after shud sarang, but is only a film,in the same way that in film baiju bawra, when both khan saab, and late pdt. DV Paluskar sang in the duet the raag desi todi was render and then effect was the marble melting, the correct raag for this to have a affect on the melting marble is raag malkauns!

  • It looks like Raag PATDEEP

  • RAAG BHATIYAR

  • Two great masters, Ustad Amir Khan Sahib and Ustad Bismillah Kahn Sahib together. A great feast for ears.

  • Also listen to Smt. Tulika Ghosh

  • brings tears in eyes.... what a series of gems !!

  • beyond words thanks

  • Dear Sabrang, you are very right in identifying all the ragas .i m sure u r trained. other wise it is impossible.

  • A lovely hindi song in the classical mould by the great Amir khan?

  • We are lucky to listen this Jugalbandi and I feel sorry for the present state of affairs of Arts and music even mediocrity has become rare.

  • Ustad Umir Khan & Ustad Bismillah Khan two LEGENDS TWO giants.....I enjoyed deeply.

  • What a treat we have. The two legends performing perfect jugalbandi. It is certainly one of the best I have ever heard on vocal and shehnai. Many thanks for posting it for the connoisseurs.

    Culturally/musically

  • no one can imagine both Muslims

    great job

  • it is the most spiritual jugalbandi of all times... ustad amir khan saab and bismillah khan saab.....it cant get better than this

  • Dear Chaitanyajosh, you are right, Dattaram Wadkar was SJ's assistant from starting to end. He also composed independently for Ab Dilli Door Nahin, Parvarish, Zindagi aur Khwab, Shriman Satyavadi, Tarzan comes to Delhi, Kala Aadmi, Neeli Ankhein, Quaidi no.911 etc. My friend Shrikant Joshi has produced a DVD on him when he was alive. I was lucky to be in the company of this great composer.

  • music for basant bahar was composed by shankar jaikishen , not naushad .... naushad scored for shabab

  • Dear Chaitanya,

Vasant Desai was much senior than Shankar Jaikishan thus question of assisting him never arise. Bismilla Khan was called by music directors for playing only shehnai.

    Dear Sabrang,

Vasant Desai did not compose the music for Basant Bahar and Shabab..but it was composed by the great Naushad.

The devine singer - Ustad Amir Khan is the father of today's actor Shahbaz Khan of Hyder Ali from Tipu Sultan TV serial.

    V.R.Pusalkar

  • thanks for the info.

  • @sabrang1430 basant bahar music is by Shanar -Jaikishan

  • Thanks for the info.. Oh I know quite a bit about the great Vasant Desai and certainly that he was much senior to SJ. But I did not know that music for this movie was composed by him. I thought it was compused by a composer who once assisted SJ , might be I got confused with Dattaram or somebody.

  • amir khan & bismillah khan sahib ... gone are the days ...

  • Mastreos !!!

Also gr8 composition - I think the composer was an assistant of Shanker-Jaikishen or something... but I might be wrong. Anybody knows ?

  • I wish I knew the intricacies of Indian classicl music but I enjoy them and like the sound

  • This is amazing! thanks for sharing.

  • this one brings tears to my eyes all the time!

  • But the most stupid decision was by EMI India in not releasing any of the 6 shehnai + sitar jugalbandis from the movie on EPs or LPs. These were released on 78rpm records. These were not played in their entirety in the movie due to plot limitations. When EMI finally released the LP of this movie later on, they never released any of the classical musical gems from the movie. Tragic.

  • YOU KNOW I was just going to write about this in my comment! I am the great-grandson of the legendary maker of this film, Vijay Bhatt. I had NO idea there were 6 DUETS...between none other than ustads Bismillah and Halim Jaffer khan! Is it possible for you or Sabrang1430 to kindly upload the, on youtube or give me a copy? Thanks(:

  • Music directors compose music for movie producers & hand over all the original music master tapes to them. Rights to the music & record sales lies with the producer! Producers then give EMI the original master tapes to produce the copper masters from which the records are actually pressed. So Vijay Bhatt MUST have the original music master tapes. Please be a good detective and locate these tapes. You'll find all the music composed including songs recorded but not filmized in the movie! Go tiger!!

  • Lol! thats right, but Vijay Bhatt died 15 years ago, and even his son who was musically inclined passed away. The music director Vasant Desai too, expired decades ago, so the only way I can play sherlock is by digging into some source or requesting someone or just pray plain and simple! hahaha! But these are masterpieces, The first-ever Sitar-Shehnai duet by 2 legends.

  • Once music directors receive payment original music tapes are handed over to the producer. Transaction is finished. The tapes become the property of the producer. Where is Vijay Bhatt's property? This includes movie negatives, movie prints & music tapes. These are physical items. Where are these items lying? Someone within the Vijay Bhatt family knows the answers & holds & inherits the property. This is where you have to start your search. Nothing to do with Vasant Desai.

    Are you really related?

  • Mr.Nick I am not fond of making up stories.Just that my username doesent suggest a Gujarati Brahmin lineage! hahaha!believe me if you can, but Vijay Bhatt is my mother's mother's father. The probleme is that when he passed away, his 100 year old bungalow was sold, his children settled in different homes, most of the old belongings of Prakash pictures, his company were scattered.

  • The son Arun who was in charge of the musical affairs and post production expired long ago, the other siblings have absolutely no trace of these things.I have been asking them this for the last many years, but no clue. Either I get the whole DVD or just wait.

  • its almost 52 years since this film was released. The company prakash pictures closed down long before Mr.Bhatt expired. What happened to the material, God alone knows. But as far as three generations of our family know, it might be lost ):

PS-If you are a classical buff, checkout my 2 Tabla solo videos on my page.Thx(:

  • The Goonj Uthi Shehnai LP and CD were released for sure. The VHS tapes were also released. I think the DVD version of the movie is also released. So what is the source of all this duplication and releases. Obviously, some master tapes exist from which all this replication is taking place. Who owns or controls this source or sources? Physical objects cannot just disappear into thin air. Someone is not telling you the real story.

  • It must have been made from some version, maybe the originals sold to EMI by prakash pictures or something, but as far as his children and grand children are concerned, they do not have any.If I had been given wrong information, I would not have been groping like this. If someone in the family had it, I would have been the first to get several copies. This is the way it is. I am ordering the DVD if its available. Rest is immaterial.

  • Mr.Nickkohri I finaly found a VCD of this great film...I am running off to buy it. Thanks for your concern. Best regards.

  • Being a professional classical music and composer myself, these are rare treasures for me, even the ones from Baiju Bawra where gaints of Indian music got together! Someone must upload that duet between Paluskarji and Amir Khansahab.

  • @carlosmangela

search you tube! that great composition has been posted approx 3 or 4 years ago

  • Stupid politicians are queuing up to make their own statues and the new generation

doesn't even know about giants like Ustad Amir Khan. What a sad time for Indian classical music.

  • Don't fret, Ustad Amir Khan saheb occupies pride of place in every music lovers hearts. What a towering musician - there is a couplet by Firakh Gorakhpuri, where he says:

Aane waali nasle tum sey yah sun kar jala kareingi

Jab unhe maloom hoga key tumne firakh ko dekha tha

  • what do those lines mean?

  • Firakh said:

Tthe future generations will be jealous of you when they will realize that you lived in the company and the times of the great Firakh Gorakhpuri. The same will happen to future generations who realize that we lived and winessed the singing of Ustad Amir Khan.

  • Stupid politicians are queuing up to make their on statues and the newer generation

doesn't even know about giants like Ustad Amir Khan. What a sad time for Indian classical music.

  • it brings tear to the eyes, every time you listen to it, what else is there to say?

  • Indeed it is Multani, not Todi. I merely observed the segment featured was not a taan as you had mentioned, it is the mukhda of a bandish.

  • You are right, just that the title is somewhat misleading. A minor quibble: the Multani segment does not feature a taan, it is the mukhda of a bandish he had composed himself.

  • This is not the Ragamala sequence from Goonj Uthi Shehnai. That comes later in the movie. The clip featured here is set to Raga Bhatiyar.

  • thank you mehram singh ji for uploading this. Its extremely wonderful.....no words for Ustadji......awesome, flawless, superb

  • thank you very much

  • thanks for posting! excellent
