I might get this. I need a seperate distortion so I can play the Cleanish riff from Bat Country by A7X. I need a slight overdrive and it sounded like it would be great for Classic Rock and 80's metal, too. I have a gain booster too so I could drive it harder for more modern heavy sounds.
Do you think it would be good for everything from AC/DC to Megadeth to A7X?
@BFMVfanatic879 Absolutely! it's just a matter of adjusting level and gain accordantly. You can use this pedal as a boost, just keep the level high and bring the gain down… lovely and smooth…
If you're down depressed and lonely...I know a play where we can go.
Love the Iron Maiden. Played this at GC the other day. Was my favorite that I played. Seriously considering buying an Ibanez TK999HT. If I don't get that I think I'll get this pedal though.
@Alcomable If you want to use it on the crunch channel I would bring the pedal gain to less than 25% and bring up the level to match the level of the amp. That way when you engage the pedal it would beef up your tone.
@Alcomable The amp will be fine, it will not damage your amp in any way. However, I wouldn't use a distortion pedal in front of a overdriven solid state amp. The best way to set up this pedal or any other distortion pedal with your amp would be to set your amp on the clean channel and use the overdrive from the pedal. Cheers!
@Alcomable No, a solid state amp can be a combo or head. There are 2 basic types of guitar amps, tube amps and solid state amps. The MG series like yours is solid state, they do not use tubes. The reason I wouldn't use a distortion or overdrive pedal into the dirty channel is because it would over-distort and instead of sounding deep and with bottom end, it would sound thin, too harsh, too noisy and no punch. I would use this pedal on top of a rich and deep clean. It'd sound killer.
@ChickenFaeces Actually one of the strong points of this pedal is its flexibility. The ability to dial in the type of distortion to suit the venue is awesome
Dude, thanks for the response, you have no idea how hard it is to get info on this pedal. I don't know why...
But anyway, I've heard that overdrive pedals sound real shitty with solid state amps. Even if the color is set completely to overdrive, will it sound bad through a solid state amp?
@ChickenFaeces No problem man. The pedal should sound just fine with your solid state amp. Set your amp on the CLEAN channel and use the pedal to get your distortion and gain. Remember that extreme high gain is not always the heavy sound that you want. When playing in a band situation, make sure you have some mids going on... that's what cuts through the mix. Experiment with different levels of gain and find thesweet spot. Cheers!
I understand that an EQ pedal is ALWAYS a good thing to have, but I don't have that luxury... I know that certain pedals like Big Muffs (SO unfortunately...) are impossible to use live because they just don't have the midrange. With a really simple set up and no real EQ tweakings, does this pedal have the necessary midrange?
@ChickenFaeces The Big Muff is awesome live!!! Again, you just have to make sure to dial in your gain. on the muff, bring the gain to 50% bring the tone to 50% and level at 50-75%... and you'll cut through like butta!!
A don't have an EQ. I don't like them. I use the Mid knob from my amp and the tone knob from the pedal to get the right amount of mids for the venue/room. You have to tweak your rig according to the room. This pedal will give you mids all day long. Go try it if possible.
@ChickenFaeces No worries man! remember... there are no rules. Use what you have and make it sound as good as you can. Full distortion is not always the best. full bass is not always recommended. It all depends on the band and the room you play in.
Outshined!!!!
