It will be easier if you clone your hard drive first before upgrading so you don't have install Windows and programs. Also you should configure your BIOS settings.before you boot up Windows

When you install a new HD, you have to reinstall EVERYTHING, including the OS.

@madeyes4u b/c she was replacing the only hard drive the labtop had.. which had the operating system on it.. you would have to install the OS again for the new drive.
