  • Thank you markourus for posting this. Judas Priest have a talent for turning classic masterpieces into modern masterpieces. I've got to go out and buy the live CD again. As for Ripper Owens vs Rob Halford I love them both; we should be grateful that all they wanted was for JP to keep going... love to all the supporters, thank you

  • Who the fuck cklick don't like???? grrrrrr

  • @Auiue ..Joan Baez fans.

  • HAAAA best live album ever haaa , have you not listned to live and dangerous by thin lizzy

  • Wonderfull, who cares that it was cleaned up in the studio....most live LPs have a little tweak to cover the 'live' glitches. Priest from 77-80 were truly majestic.

  • fuck yeah

  • How can they make it so perfectly? Perfect. No other words.

  • @matzinho96 This is studio taped over an audience ..Still Awesome .

  • @cjf7991, yeah right. you were at the studio mixing and editing the record, right.

Just so you know, I first saw Priest in 1979 at the Long Beach Arena on their tour to support the "Unleashed at The East" album and they sounded just exactkt like this. They totally blew me away by their energy, speed, loudness, showmanship... everything.

  • I had watched a lot of hard rock and heavy metal bands in concert before my first Judas Priest concert back in 1979 and I did not expect to be blown away like this fucking band did. I honestly can say that I never experienced a band as heavy and powerful as Judas Priest back then. I haven't been to one of their concert in many years but from what I've heard and read they are as heavy, powerful, and majestic as when I saw them in concert.

  • @fierrote Its the truth they did mix this in the studio . I believe they sounded amazing .. but this was re recorded like Kiss Alive Its just a fact not my opinion ..I love priest man

  • @cjf7991, every live album...and I mean "every"... is mixed in the studio after the music is recorded live

  • @fierrote It was overdubbed

  • @cjf7991, okey "mr. recording expertus". I didn't mean to get you all worked up.

  • @fierrote Im not worked up Just telling u a fact .. Ive been studying rock and metal for 25 years

  • Comment removed

  • @fierrote Yes and cleaned up ..Look up Diamonds and rust live 1979 ..Youll hear the real audio which is also amazing but you hear live sloppiness which is not a bad thing

  • @fierrote

i saw them at Hammersmith odeon in london in 79 same tour, I remember halford saying "We're doing pretty good tonight" Man he was right , they didn't play a wrong note. My 16 year old mind was blown.

  • super chanson

  • wouldnt say the ONLY priest album you need but, its a good start!

  • The ONLY "Priest" album anyone needs..

  • five stars ...............

  • JP with Dave for the first time......

  • When I Saw Judas Priest Open For KISS Dynasty Tour (79/80)...I Was Floored !! I Witnessed This !! Judas Priest Covering Folk Singer Joan Baez !!

  • @inbetweentics

Hey, I cleared this up a long time ago, to which I do agree with what you said. So scale it back, take a breath, and relax for a little bit before you put my head on the chopping block.

  • Absolutely hands down my favorite Priest tune ever.

  • @darlincommitme

Very true, and he also took out some of the lyrics that were a direct reference to

Dylan. It is a very good version and what you said helped me to get a better grasp on their rendition.

  • How can somebody cover someone else's song which has nothing to do with them? This was Joan Baez singing about Dylan. I didn't know Judas Priest slept with Dylan too.

  • @blindboygrunt13 Halford might have slept with Dylan.

  • @blindboygrunt13

People do covers of other people's music all the time - it is a matter of finding what is similar in their own expereince. Halford may not have slept with Dylan (even if he wanted to, not sure Bobby would be into it), but he can probably relate to the experience of remembering an old lover. And Priest also drops some of the lyrics, of course.

  • @blindboygrunt13 LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! there have been dozens if not hundreds of artists forever that have been doing other peoples' material, even changing the gender in the lyrics at times or NOT, like when joan jett did tommy james and the shondells crimson and clover, she didn't change a word! lol you crack me up! for pete's sake, every song that's ever been written is about someone - doesn't mean that someone else can't do their own version of it.

  • @inbetweentics Perhaps the best comment I have ever seen on youtube. this place is a joke. If you want to see the best version of this song , in my opinion check out Blackmores night

  • better than the studio version. more lively and exciting!

  • Judas priest could release an album of this song alone they have done so many versions, and i would buy it :)

  • @patriots99999 I dont know man, Maiden's Live After Death is a top pick too

  • Chris Goddamn Cole!

  • I have been listening to the priest since I was 14 years old and I still crank it when I am alone in my car. And I am an old geezer now...

Young whipper snappers be looking at me going down the street saying, "Man look at that old geezer crankin on the Priest.

  • @Nikkymomo i remember that we saw a old man driving around with metal on we cheered to him :D

  • @Nikkymomo I hear you man,I'm 60 years old and I still do it !

  • @Nikkymomo, and just how old are you "old geezer" cause you maybe a young pup compared to me. LOL

  • @fierrote Let us just say I am almost 50.

  • @Nikkymomo ME too! Rock ON old geezer join the Head Banging Old Geezer Club, I'll save you a wheelchair.

  • @bassace1358 Hahahahaha Bassace your alright.

  • @Nikkymomo You're a true metalhead :)

    I admire you!!!

I hope I'll be an old geezer metalhead when i get old :)

  • @Nikkymomo Hee man, the same here. At the age of 46 im still crazy about this album. The best from my youth. My 3 boys also love it, awesmone i think!! With the 4 of use going crazy with JP in the kitchen.

  • @Nikkymomo man, i remember when Priest came to my town on the Faith tour, man, we''ll never grow old, it's just this new generation don't understand what music is, back in the 70s and 80s music was going fucking nuts, no matter what you liked, Priest, Maiden, Slayer, Metallica, Dio, I could go on, but let the music do the talking for me.

  • @Nikkymomo I want to say thank to all who have responded to my comment about JP. I keep getting them and it just shows... JP ROCKS for sure. My wife does not mind it, but she does not understand why it has to be played so LOUD. But I know that all of you do. Keep rockin.

  • @Nikkymomo Fucking A!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Nikkymomo your so awesome, I've been a fan since they started, now I'm an old fart, and I still crank it, someday it will kill me, but I will die happy.

  • @Nikkymomo my heads frequently banging to hard for them to tell its a geezer... now,

    wheres the ointment.

  • @Nikkymomo I know right ?

  • xexe me too

  • this blows the shit away to fuken day

  • way better than the baez version...definitive.

  • This is a very good song.

  • You think Joan Biaz would be proud of this cover of her song? I think she would. I've heard the original recording by her and it totally sucks. She was a good writer of lyrics, but her singing sucks ass. She's not even a hair on Sheena Easton's head ( of a singer ), that's for sure. LOL

  • @Boogyman4050 From Blabbermouth : In a recent interview with QMI Agency, folk icon Joan Baez was asked what she thought of JUDAS PRIEST's classic cover of her song "Diamonds And Rust", which can be found on the band's 1977 album "Sin After Sin". "I love that!" she replied. "I was so stunned when I first heard it. I thought it was wonderful..."

  • @Pauly196740 That version lacked. This version is what she should be asked about eh?

  • @Pauly196740 awesome, thanx for the info.i like the way they were true to the original

  • Es mejor que la acustica... |..|,

  • Every time I hear this song it bring tears ot my eyes. Judas Priest is my RELIGION

  • this is the best album they EVER had. And I know you all agree with me.

  • @hmmsmellslikefish this is my favorite priest album i just wished the put beyond the realms of death on it

  • @xDXPxJOEx456x1 me too man, this one is the best.

  • yeah and stranger in the night UFO.....best two live albums ever

  • this imo is the best live album of all time

  • powerful...

  • One of the best songs ever live

  • This album, Lights Out and Tokyo Tapes are the cat's ass. Awesome!

  • I remember being a 5 year old and my lunchtime babysitter's teenage son, who was an aspiring vocalist used to play this album constantly. The sounds of those screaming guitars and shrieking vocals spoke volumes! Tonka toys, matchbox cars, erector sets, etc. could not reach me like the "Heavy Metal" could. So when I was about 7 or so, me and the old man went to Rolling Stone records(Chicagoland), which was close to our house and I obtained a copy for myself and I haven't been the same since!.

  • Any female singer would be honored to do a duet with Rob Halford...

  • Absolutely adored the way he annunciates the final "rust" lyric... here :D that and the rest of this song of course haha

  • Although a 'Classic', Halford's vocals were recorded in the studio for this record and not live because he was sick during the concerts in Japan and not at full strength. In fact, this album has been deemed 'Unleashed in the Studio'. None the less, it kicks ass!

  • I never knew this was a Joan Baez song wow!!

  • i can listen to this a million timesd and it would still be like the first!!!!

  • Wow! This brought me back!!! Staring at the album cover and jamming with my mother yelling at me to turn it down... Hahaha... Awesome memories!

  • composed by Joan Baez???wtf????

  • @jpluera

Yep - it is originally a Joan Baez song, written about her relationship with Bob Dylan (though written in 1974, several years after they broke up.) Priest's arrangement doesn't include all of her lyrics... and amps it up of course. A great example of borrowing between genres.

  • what can i say? children thank you ireibrabdivad

  • Hey jack ass mike schenker couldnt shine shoes of glen tipton or kk downining !

  • @kinnylee87able Put down the crack pipe. They are both great, however Michael Schenker is on a entirely different level. You should listen to some Schenker. They are both great but could not be in the same conversation with Michael. Really.

  • Fantastic!

  • hey kids michael schenker is far better guitarist than both of the priests although the priest songs are better

  • hey kids michael schenker is far better guitarist than both of the priests

  • @hmcccp You're joking, right...?

  • schenker and ufo were one of the best metal acts to see live. priest was warm up in79. both great bands who says one has to be better? strangers in the night best live album ever

  • Look at the video of Halford from early 1970's British TV Show Old Grey Whistle Test., he has hair like Robert Plant!

  • que viajem eim

  • That old ass analog delay still f'en rocks! The beginning of this song is epic!!!!

  • UFO was an ass kicking band you ass clown !!! michael schenker could play both glenn AND k.k.'s parts without breaking a sweat. i love judas, but had to put in when the ass clown put ufo down, he's obviously not a guitar player. more likely a great skin flutest.....

  • @timjessa1 Michael Schenker is a guitars god. I love Judas Priest, adore Glenn and K.K. but Schenker is really special.

  • @proquimica Why is he so special? record sales?concert tickets sold? Ummm no. Prolific song writing? Umm no.Schenker is good but dont say hes a guitar god just cuz its the cool thing to say. mSG better than Priest....no fuckin way. Get real.

  • @insaneone5150 I love schenker, but hes not as good as priest. Hes not someone to diss though.

  • UFO ROCKS maybe not like judas but they don't suck.

  • 15 and know what real music is and its judas fucking priest

  • @themanthatlived Good for you! Does not grt much better! My 1st Priest show was British Steele 79" seen almost every tour.

  • @themanthatlived me too bro!

  • Theres only one cool gay person in the world and Rob Halfords him, metal wouldnt be the same without him the motherfucker can rip!

  • @MrPanterafan999 You do realise KK is bi so that mes him half gay?

  • @UKLegendUK was he really?!?!?! I didnt know that..

  • @MrPanterafan999 dumb fuck Freddie Mercury kicks this dudes ass

  • @PhunkadelicPhish bull mother fucking shit!!!!!! Freddie Mercurys a little bitch compared to Rob Halford. • @MrPanterafan999 HAHA halarious comment joke right?? Who da fuck care bout this guy any more, jst cause they still play, playing the same shit u think judas preist is still cool and relevant in music today. when in reality better metal has come out before them: black sabbath and and after them: sleep... not to mention the more progressive intreeging rock that came out round the same time like, ufo, deep purple, zeppelin an whitesnake.

  • @PhunkadelicPhish dude ur a fuckign idiot just stfu and stop commenting cause nobody cares about whitesnake or ufo cause they fuckign suck ass! And i listen to alot more heavy shit then judas priest so stfu and leave me alone cause ur really annoying faggot!

  • @PhunkadelicPhish your a dumb ass Judas is a rock god and hes way better then most of the bands these days

  • priest for the win :D

whoever likes hihg pitch heavy metal should check king diamond too :D

then you have a priest and a king :D

  • drums = fantastic

  • This is far better than the studio version.

  • @madcapper6 hell yeah it was better than the studio version....this live album is my fav of all my judas albums and the concert was so bad azzz

  • @bunnyrocks69 i have to totally agree with you on your post. i still have this album after all the yrs it's been released and i'am an old timer, LoL still one of my fav album. yes, their great live. (<

  • @madcapper6 With all the overdubs, this practically is a studio version.

  • @madcapper6 matter of fact it's a studio version... lol it was rerecorded

  • @madcapper6

yes, but this is also a studio version! ;)

  • @madcapper6 This IS a studio version. Overdubbed and re-done to such an extent that it's no longer live.

  • @ScotRanger1960 I know they had to ''polish it up'' because back then most live albums sounded like crap.

But still I do like this version a little better than the on on Sin after sin.

  • @MeRiteUwRong

this whole album has more fullness than the studio recordings from the albums.

  • @madcapper6 Unleashed in the studio ;D

  • @madcapper6 I agree

  • Halford may not sound like he did back in the 70s, 80s and 90s anymore, but he still nails it. Too many people have questioned whether he still has it, but he always come back strong.

  • Halford...Best metal voice ever!!!!!!!!

  • @311iker Not taking anything away from Halford but I will, polietly, disagree. I think Bruce has the best voice ever! Bruce would be third. Foolwing, Close very close to RJD.

  • ILL have to admit i was bummed out to hear halford was gay.I really dont know how we hadent figured it ot sooner with the leather biker outfit and whip thing.but it never made me dislike priest or halford.fact of the matter is Judas priest rocks and im pretty sure he isnt going to hit on me. so i really dont care what he does or who he does it with.As long as he remains the metal GOD

  • @smithdsmit It is a surprise that it was not known that Robert Halford was gay, especially as he openly frequented many Birmingham gay clubs in the 1970's.

  • vote for Glenn Tipton in the Total Guitar greatest guitarist poll in musicradar(dot)com

    Judas Priest rules !!!

  • "I LOVE JP TO ! give me thumbs up so I can be annoying to.. like all the "thumps up if .." shitheads around youtube. AAA... common.. I want thumbs up.. please.. I want to be cool on youtube too.." Fucking retards !

  • Judas Priest forever in the history

  • Becouse gay mans deserve something better than clubbing techno sith

  • Youtube, why when I was trying to comment on a Abba video I enjoyed and posted you gave me a word no human on earth could possibly translate?.I haven't even made many posts today. What are your motives?I actually convinced myself you were reforming. So it was just a fantasy and wishful thinking spurred on by a few extraordinary coincidences afterall.Shameful.

  • Thanks for your kindness and consideration Youtube, sincerely Rematpac.

  • What a great song!! still gives me goosebumps

  • People are really getting sick of your bullshit! youtube.Your destiny is going to be what happened to My Space!

  • Comment removed

  • @iggy082 I usually have a lot of messages to answer, and since my eyesight is perfect youtube blocks me from returning them by putting words in front of me no human being could possibly decipher!

  • Comment removed

  • @iggy082 But doesn't it really piss you off when they put up letters that don't even exist to absolutely screw you for no reason?I can understand them trying to keep someone who is drunk and irritating people, but making some of their words so bad that the most sober person with the best eyesight in the world could not possibly figure it out-there's no excuse for that kind of treatment!

  • Comment removed

  • @iggy082 Someone on youtube is spying on us this moment. They just made me spell a very easy word to print you that last comment. And then when I wrote back to tell you about it ,they didn't even print my comment at all.I have no problem with you Youtube,as long as you will be fair.

  • Comment removed

  • @iggy082 Then how can you possibly explain what just happened/The odds of that being a coincidence are a million to one!

  • @rematpac And they made me spell another extremely simple word again to get through to you,yet 3 other people that I have been responding to between my messages to you were not worded! They are engaging in damage control obviously.Congradulations Youtube,I'm honestly proud of you.

  • @iggy082 I just proved you wrong my friend.Go to the website and read the last message I meant to send you but sent to myself instead accidently.I'm not making any of this up and would never have believed it myself, but it just happened and there is NO OTHER POSSIBLE EXPLANATION.

  • @iggy082 I know you think I'm just crazy or something. If I were you I would think the exact same thing absolutely. But I'm not and I'm telling the absolute truth. This is by far the weirdest thing that's ever happen to me on Youtube. It's obviously a good person eavesdropping. They do have the resources when they think something's important. They took my criticism of them very seriously and I'm proud of them for that.I even thanked them a few moments ago and they didn't word me finally.Coincidence?NO

  • Just barely discovered this song, and OMFG, it is amazing x 100

  • heard this song for the first time in 1984, never stopped listening to it. One of the most amazing classic rock. Hail Hallford. Nothing similar to this ever sung. A masterpiece
