  • mine does that too... its normal... 280k miles on mine

  • Mine makes the same noise when the engine is cold and goes away or is less noticable after it warms up. I was told it was loose rocker arms. Not huge problem just more annoying.

  • Mines sound exactly the same and its freakin annoying.

  • Normal if its not very loud. Most of the time because the oil is not warm enough and it doesnt circulate in that area wer the valvetrain is. If it ticks louder than that when the engine is warm then its something else.

  • dont know if the poster is still around but my 02 neon with 117k make that same exact sound the the tee. if you found out was yours is and if you fixed it i would really like to know

  • @wargod4200 Unfortunately, I never figured it out. The car still runs fine though.

  • ALL dodge neon sound like that, mine sounds the same, its just the lifters.

  • @DRIFTxBBC Good to know it's nothing seriously wrong. Hope my car doesn't die!

  • Walmarts had valv max life on sale for 13.50 before, 16 regularly, considering you dont have to change your oil as often as conventional, its not any more than using regular oil. Its got additives to clean and protect so its def worth it. Gonna find out what to add for noise, but prolly tom, its late right now, and ill let you know.

  • Small world! Im in ny too! WNY, what part are you in? If theres no light, the noise wouldnt be transmission related like ours was. Checking the cover just makes sure you have oil spurting around meaning good pressure. Like i said before, just sounds like a lifter tick, you might be able to just put something in your oil to calm it, and if its not already on synthetic oil, ive had great exp with that, but to swap it from blend to full, not jumpin right in. Itl be betr for valves and seals.

  • @sk8rchik13ny I live in Westchester. Thanks for the synthetic suggestion. I'll consider using a high mileage synthetic blend next time I change my oil. Right now, I'm just using $10 plain oil from Walmart.

  • @rogersvids lol using cheap parts = bad performance

  • Low oil level i meant moreso then the pressure, you can remove your vqlve cover and check onthe underside for fresh oil if your concerned about the pressure. The oil pressure monitor is a pain as my husband said its on the back of be motor and hard to get to. He advised just driving it til it blows! Lol! Not sure where you are, we have emissions inspection, engine light on it fails, if your light is off, seriously just drive it til it dies and consider a neon lesson learned.

  • @sk8rchik13ny I live in New York and they check for OBD-II codes and fail for a check engine light as well. My car actually doesn't have the light on and it passed inspection last month. I checked the oil level on the dipstick again and it was still near the full mark. I think I'll just take your advice and not worry about this. I want to avoid taking off the valve cover unless you're sure I need to.

  • Your's sounds like valves or lifter ticks. Low oil can cause that. Checking your oil would be a good first start.

  • @sk8rchik13ny Thanks for your response. I checked my oil on the dipstick and it's filled up. Is it worth buying an oil pressure monitor? The oil light on the dash board isn't illuminated or anything.
