So the game came out in my country a week ago... and I had very high hopes. All crushed down to a piece of sh*t what the game is! This "revolutionary" battle system is a joke! ... IMHO.

@pankrazspancreas I've heard they were going to call it The Last World, but I've pre-ordered it under the name of The Last Story, and it still says The Last Story on the Nintendo website, so, apparantly it was just a false rumour or they decided not to change the name after all.

@MentalHaraKiri well game are selling one :P they say it's exclusive to them, but if you just search the last story on their website, there's two options: there's the regular game, and then there's a limited edition version (which doesn't even have an image yet :P) but it says it contains an art book and CD so for £10 more, i thought i may aswell.

@pankrazspancreas Oh, I'm from Belgium so perhaps that's the reason. I searched a bit on Google and apparantly you're right, it's a box which includes a cd, a little art book and a steelcase, so it seems like a pretty good deal. Hopefully, it will also be available in Belgium. Funny how little advertising there is for The Last Story, considering they're begging for it in the States :P (cf. Operation Rainfall).

I wonder if game players/reviewers such as GameZoneOnline ever get bored with games.

I've been a gamer since the days of the amstrad era and on to the current gen, but some days I find i need a break from every genre of game, including my beloved JRPG genre.

I know they aren't bad,but i've found Skyward Sword very boring, TOS Dawn of the new world too average.the only one i found exciting and 60 hours into so far is xenoblade chronicles, and i'm now bored with that,none are holding my interest

@mangafansam Actually, there was a time when I got really burnt out on games, RPGs in specific. But then I had the luck to get the Orange Box for Christmas that year. Playing a series of games that good reminded me what I loved most about games. The Last Story is another game would have revitalized me.

The real-time battles were too confusing, especially the boss battles. You couldn't tell what the hell was going on half the time (heresy to fans of the game). Got to say the music was very good though

@wingslyp the only prob i found with the battles was that they were too similar to subtitles on a movie/anime etc..the attack symbols are distracting.I spent so much time concentrating on pushing the correct attack and waiting for the next to recharge, i barely glanced at the battle taking place.

@rockyscarlet It's coming out in PAL markets (Europe, Africa, Oceania). on Feburary 24th, 2012. And the reason it's a Wii exclusive is the same reason Super Mario is. It's a Nintendo IP made with Nintendo's money.

Cliches don't bother me if they're done well. An epic game is epic as long as it contains endearing characters, a world we come to care for, and emotional events helped along by fantastic music. While I'll be picking up Xenoblade too, TLS is definitely at the top of the radar for me because of Mistwalker. Nice to see Xenoblade with such an open world but not sure I'm fond of its terminator-like, sci-fi elements. I Never did get into the Xeno games, but, I'm all for supporting JRPGs.

Great review man. I'm an old school RPG player, been playing since Chrono Trigger and so on. I miss the old days, were you relax and play your RPG and even if you are away from the console, you still think about the game and the story. I don't get this feeling at all these days. *sigh* just miss the old days.

But do you highly recommend playing this game? Sakagushi(?) not sure of the spelling, is a great game developer, but is this game really a must play?

@iTalalTube I can not recommend any game more than the Last Story. This is Sakaguchi's (you were so close) modern masterpiece. This is what RPGs should be. It appeals to the classic fans with the story and strong characters, and the modern fans with a fast paced and fun battle system
