I watched this episode the night it aired originally aired, I can tell you no one expected this episode to end the way it did. It was typical ER fare, with the run of the mill traumas, a dying patient, Carter ignoring Lucy's difficulties, all with a celebration tying everything together. These episodes have come and gone and all have ended happily. To see Carter and Lucy brutally attacked was shocking, and unexpected. It was as if someone grabbed you by the throat and would not let go.
My complaint about the DVds I bought with th season 6 is it didn't have "extras" about the production of these 2 episodes: the death of Lucy and almost death of Carter. The Dvds of season ,1,2,3,4 have that kind of extras, but in the 6 just some "scenes deleted".
That was the most important happening of the entire ER in all seasons, for me. It deserved some descriptions, of the actors for example.
I got ER season 6 on DVD, for my birthday, back in June, and couldn't wait to see this episode. When I finally DID get to see it, I was so shocked, I was on my feet, yelling, "OMG, Carter! No way!!" Can't believe how brutal it was. :P
The episode where they're found was so gory,i had to stop watching the dvd and go and lie down as i felt sick, lost all my colour! I can watch it now though
Oh my god!I still remember this episode.I hadn't had the chance to watch it when it first aired on Greece but we watched it,my family and friends on DVD.And we were like holy jesus! And the episode after that,we were practically holding hands.Electrofying, gut wrenching and so much agonizing. And the background music, the contrast of it,just makes it even more terrifying!ER just rocks.
This was a really sad ep. I was about 9 or something when I last saw it, and I was praying for lucy to get better, but then she died. I was crying a bit.
How can you have parties in the er while some patients die or injured and their familes are having hard time, seriously you people have no morals or heart!
God, what an iconic moment in TV history. I remember watching this episode almost ten years ago now (Jeez, can you believe it's been that long?!) and being totally floored. In fact, it was this moment, this episode, this show, of all the shows I ever watched, that got me into reading spoilers for the first time. Before this I had no idea they existed!
sensational music choice, I still remember this song recurrent on another episode ,when Paul (Patient) return ER, full recovery and has other minor injury.
my thoughts exactly - this was shortly after I had gotten really into ER and this episode blew me away - never in my life had I wanted to see the next episode of a tv series more than after this!
I just caught the comment at :12.... "I think we have a bigger knife in the lounge"..."Couldn't find it"- yikes, that gave me chills. Anyways, this was a great episode.
This was one of the most memorable moments of television ever for me. I just remember being completely shocked by the contrast of the music with what was happening. That song will forever be a haunting one for me.
i totally agree everytime i even here that song i think of this scene and just thinking of er i think of that scene...that was the most intense 2 shows with the stabbiing i have ever seen
The blood on his hands looks like tomato sauce lol. Has the full episode been removed from youtube? I remember there used to be about 11 parts but I can't find them anymore ;(
when this epsdoes aired i was in 1st year of college I wented to a privite college and remember my whole dorm watch this in the longer and we were all stunted and shock
i remember the night that i saw this episode...juxtaposing the tragedy of their stabbings against the backdrop of a party on the hospital floor was brilliant...made it more shocking. i was FLOORED by this episode and the following one where lucy died
I believe this episode was directed by Laura Innes, aka Kerry Weaver, and she did a fantastic job, especially with this scene. This was shocking the first time around.
Carter opens up his own Medical facility and Rachel Greene (Mark's daughter) begins her internship at County, thus bringing the series full circle with Carters arc reaching its conclusion and a 'new beginning' with Rachel. Classic characters appearing in the series finale--Carter, Benton, Weaver, Lewis and Corday.
I watched all of ER last year when I was bored during the writer's strike. Although I was spoiled for many of the major storylines (this included), this episode was really chilling.
I have not watched ER in years. I only remember this episode, the one where the schizophrenic returns, the one with the Hellicopter and the one where Carter says he lost his virginity at age of 11.
What an episode this was. Completely shocked me. and somebody mentioned the music being played when Carter bumped into the guy later. That ws indeed cool how they played a snippet of this music. Great job.
They never showed Lucy getting stabbed in the series, although presumably it happened when Carter was talking to Abby on the roof..the first time they show her injured is when Carter falls to the floor and sees her on the other side of the bed.
Great sequence of episodes, and I loved the continuity they showed in "Beyond Repair" (aka The Return of Paul Sobriki)
Song is 'Battleflag' by Lo Fidelity Allstars..I bought their CD solely because of this sequence on ER. Looking forward to the season premiere tonight!
Thank You" I'm asking because this is the one episode i missed. It makes me want want to go purchase Season Six now." I have the first three seasons all ready but way behind.
And" the comment about John Stamos "No Offense" But he cannot save a dying show "Sad to say after all these years
yeah i stopped buying the seasons after 8 came out bc its not the same without dr greene. i also quit watching the newer episodes when all the orginal characters went off. even the show is the same age as me i still love it. (:
I think that the music made it seem more intense rather than sad slow music. The guy stabbing them is crazy obviously and the music kind of fits that type of situation, a crazy man stabbing people.
i kinda see what you mean but i think it had something to do with the partying...think of it this way while Lucy and carter were being stabbed and almost bleeding to death the people were partying have a great time...thats what for me makes this so much more intense...
It worked very well though, in one of the following episodes where the guy came back when he was better and Carter saw him and they played the same music. It kind of connected the two scenes and brought everything together.
Oh man, I remember watching this when it was first airing! It was SUCH a great reveal at the end! (carter seeing that Lucy was stabbed too). I remember sitting in my family room with my parents going "OH MY GOD CARTER JUST GOT STABB -- AHHH LUCY TOO!!"
