This song was specifically written for Merman for the revival of "Annie". I think that this song is another of example of how Irving Berlin was able to write these two melody line songs. The other songs that come to mind are: Simple melody and You're just in love. Ty for the post. What fun!
I live in San Antonio, TX, and the bride & groom had a karaoke after-party after their reception. They sang this to each other. It re-affirmed my belief in marriage!!!
Even though Frank Butler is possibly the most detestable leading man ever (I'll vow to love you forever, you'll vow to love, honor, and obey), this remains one of my favorite musicals of all time. The music is just so brilliant.
Two kids in my choir sang this song for our Broadway Musical Revue...they did soo well too, and since then I haven't been able to get this song outta my head :)
God what is Peters' obsession with reviving Merman's classics and flat-out ruining them. At least she's not as bad in "Annie" as she was "Gypsy." She's just way too whiny here for Annie. Merman was th perfect Annie, hell the role was WRITTEN FOR HER AFTER ALL.
Hehehe, I respect your opinions, but personally I think Bernadette did much better. I do agree that Ethel Merman's vocals fit much better into the role, but I think Peters really brought out the character!!!
I never did, but I have both the original cast soundtrack, and this cast and i personally like Bernadette Peters a lot more than Ethel Merman. I was also in a community theater production a few years ago. I was just in the chorus but it was still a lot of fun!
Hahaha, I know what you mean. Ethel Merman may be a classic musical theatre icon, but Bernadette Peters is a goddess!!! She is so much better than Ethel Merman's bellowing!!! ^^
That must have been fun!!! I helped out with a theatre who worked on this, but I merely worked backstage, I can't sing... 8-)

Because she sucks.

Well, can you tell me why??? That is your opinion and I respect it, but I was just wondering??? ^^

Her voice is annoying and obnoxious, she's smarmy, she's ugly. Generally: she sucks.
eastxwinds 3 years ago
I have to agree with you, her voice is a little annoying at times, but her singing is remarkable. As for the rest, I am sorry you feel that way.
