The big fisheries in Svolvaer is almost over. The tourism is now much bigger. The cod doesnt longer migrate in to the Vestfjord. It spawn on the islands northern side, and west of the distrikt of Vesterålen. Many buildings are converted from fishing prosessing to tourism. Its a quite big tourist senter now.
