  • you mean there aren't godzilla rolls in japan? jk seriously, most people i go eat sushi with in the us have no idea what they are doing.

  • The whole soy sauce on a white rice bowl is considered bad etiquette because its considered to be a waste of soy sauce and an act of greed from what I have read.

The reason why the extra wasabi is considered disrespectful is because it's kind of like saying "you have cheap and old fish". The itamae knows the proper balance of wasabi he puts on the nigiri sushi. I actually like the places that do this compared to the ones who don't.

Besides those 2 things you got everything.

  • what you mean "the fish side".. isnt the fish in the middle?

  • Thanks for the info, couple more things I was wondering about...

When you get the wooden chopsticks, is it rude or acceptable to briefly rub them together to get off the splinters?

When you are drinking your miso soup and come across large chunks or pieces that don't come out easily can you use chopsticks to get them or what?

I got the no tipping thing in Japan, but in USA tipping is still expected even at the most authentic Japanese resturant, right?

    thanks

  • Thanks for the info housetek :D

  • yeah the revolving sushi resturants are my favorite places to eat. but yeah we did not find out about the color coated pirce guide till after the meal. we ended up eating $42 USD in Sushi.

  • Wow, give the tip back? Hmm, I should just read a book about Japan and obtain my knowledge of it.

  • good points.. this was helpful :).. thanks!

  • I think he means when you're not eating. Instead place the chopsticks next to the bowl not inside the bowl.

  • dude your hair is tight

  • LOVE YOUR HAIR...

  • wow i never would have guessed that about soy sauce on rice. great info... thanks!

  • Very nice. I've learned some things. Thanks. =]

  • Well done man, right and good and simple info!

    And wow,a clever American...that`s rare!

  • Another great, informative video. It's nice to know these things, thank you.

  • Man, that's a lot shit to remember. I'm going to Japan for a visit, and after watching this video, I'm having second thoughts. I can just picture myself leaving some sushi bar, and some sushi chef chasing after me, wanting to chop my balls off because I accidentally left my chopsticks stuck in the rice.

  • Awesome, useful info aside. You are adorable! good for you!

  • @DukeAndHolly Youtube -

They Sold Their Souls For Rock And Roll

  • Nice tie, and damn this is making me hungry. cool video

  • ooooh..yum!

  • I really just want some eel.

  • Why on earth would someone wipe their armpits with the towel? I would expect just to use it on my hands.

Lovely tips, now I know what to expect when eating in Japan. There's a lot to know, but I think that it's all relatively manageable.

  • oh man... i've seen it so many times!

like in the summer a lot of travelers go into places and wipe their arm pits and necks and stuff with the towels its soo gross

  • That's really disgusting. I'm almost positive that is bad hygiene. I mean, even in the States I've not seen someone wipe their armpits/necks with things. So why do it in Japan?

Then again, I don't entirely pay attention to the other people..

  • @housetek are there any halal places coz im muslim?

  • Thanks for the tips. You're hot.

  • I want sushi! Man this is making me hungry!

  • Lol! You need to attach this as a response to my Sushi eating spoof... i think i might be causing more problems with my video D:!

  • That was really good (and useful), thanks! :)

  • that's a pretty good guide

    props to you!

  • ahh so ur goin to skoo in japan now? or u just living there?

  • You don't like sushi I guess. California roll really isn't sushi.

  • wow theres a lot of disrespectful things in japan that takes place because America is so accustomed to their own way of life... thank you

  • first comment ^0^....i want REAL sushi
