Very little to moan about this vieo. Thoroughly entertaining and fairly informative. However it would have been nice to have gone into more detail about the lens, optical layout, elements in groups, Canon's Lens coating, Aspheric element and what it does etc Finally I'd have done two things differently, used a lens hood and also made some statement about being prone to vignetting when using a polariser etc

@oMkRnRTz The autofocus on Canon EOS' are built into the lens, not the body. So different lens will have different focussing speeds

@SuperIcookie A 60mm is a) EF-S (crop sensor compatible only so it becomes a bad move if you move to Full Frame)

b) f/2.8 where this is f/1.2

50mm f/1.2 is a hell of a better choice (if you're talking about this particular one), and you can afford it. If not the cheaper f/1.4 option is available :)

@F0bR0ckz I believe they shoot photos in the RAW format for their videos, but whether their photos are 'raw', as in not edited afterwards I don't know :/

Given that they're reviewing a lens I'm guessing not as they want to give us an idea of what sort of images the lens produces straight out of the camera.

can anyone please answer this question for me...

I am going to buy my first dslr soon (the canon 550d) and would anyone help me choosing a lens. Note I currently dont have any lens.

Here are my options:

1. Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8

Or get a fast prime as my first lens?

2. Canon 85mm f/1.8 USM

Both these lenses cost roughly the same in australia and i dont want to spend over $1000 AUD

@97purna buy the prime if you're just starting out in dslr's. by using a prime you'll learn more about composition, creativity and framing your subject because primes make you use your feet more so it is much more engaging.

@bidpay looks saturated in some parts and then in others, almost sepiaesque. probably did something to it in post. definitely a user defined style rather than standard etc. as for "zoom," do you mean zoom-like? the 50mm 1.2 is a prime. he played around with focus to give it style, and for this silly vignette, it works!

@reeds74 Depends on what you mean and what camera you have. If you mean street shooting + a full frame camera (e.g. 5D), I would say the 50mm is good for that.

If on a cropped sensor, 35mm for street shooting (35 times 1.6 = 56mm).

Just my opinion in case of street shots (50mm is perfect for such IMHO).
