that was incredibly staged. The driver of the Viper took every turn extremely wide missing every Apex and allowing the BMW to pass. Then on the last straight-away the Viper seemingly can't out accelerate it and they come across the line perfectly together. Clarkson even says that the Vipers problem is under-steer. I own a Viper and I can tell you that understeering a viper is not its problem... the problem is the exact opposite.

Don't forget that different cars are suited better to different tracks. This was filmed on The Streets of Willow Springs in CA which is a small and EXTREMELY technical track that favors smaller cars.

I had my first performance driving school out there years ago and I was embarrassing v8 Mustangs and 944 Porsches in my weasely 2.0 VW Jetta.

Now, if they had crossed the street and raced on the big track, the Viper would've crushed the M Roadster. Too many long straights.

I don't think the video was staged, but we all know the viper has more potential than what was displayed. Biggest drawback to the the viper is the lack of downforce, and chrysler reserves that for the acr.

commenting on the statement when he said the z4m felt better than the z06....I drove both and I will agree w/ jeremy here that the z4m FEELS better. The z06 feels disconnected by any european standard. Yes I know the z06 would rock any M car in a straightline, twists, and even in reverse!

hahaha, all you people complaining that the race "wasn't fair" for the dodge fail to understand. a convertible with this engine, chassis and overall performance is on paper the born loser in this contest. yet it absolutely kills the dodge on the track.

american cars are just rubbish as soon as you look at the overall performance you get.

If you have driven both cars, you'd know what you're saying. But in all actuality, you're just speculating. I'm no Viper fan, but I know how fast these cars are. Try watching Top Gear and see where both of these cars are on their board.
