I am in no way an expert on the subject, but my friend (from brazil) and I were talking about this today. Apparently in Brazil, they use more "S" sounds, but in Portugal if the S is not the first letter of the word it will become a "SHH" sound. There are also some very noticeable differences in pronunciation and use of a few words (don't ask me which ones). If you will listen to both the brazilian portuguese version and the portuguese version of this song, you will notice a few differences.

it's very easy to hear the "S" difference when the two women start to sing together in this video clip. Moses' wife is singing with the brazilian dialect, her S's are very clear in her singing. When Moses' sister joins her, she is singing with a more portuguese dialect. She is singing the exact same words, but she is using the "SHH" sound instead of the "S" sound.

[part_1 ]There are LOTS of diferences... per example: in Brazil there's not one type of sound of the letter "e" that in portugal exists... In brazil last "r" is readen like the english "h" (but stronger) and in portugal is readen like the final spanish "r". Words terminated in "em" (stressed syllable) are readen "aim" and in brazil it's like "ëï" (both nasal). In Portugal, in an non-stressed syllable, an "o" is spoken "oo", while in brazil "O"s always sound like "aw" or "ow".

[part_2] There are differences in some words in a letter (with different graphic accent and phonetical, a letter more in portuguese of portugal). Per example: "fact" in portugal is "facto" and in Brazil is "fato" (in portugal the c is readen and "fato" in portugal only means "suit"). But there are words (in Portugal) when the plus letter is not readen but it modifies a preceding vowel like in the word action "acção" (sounds aa-SAUM - the aum it's nasal and stressed;).

[part_3] In Brazil it's "ação" (and sounds like in portugal) but if in portugal we'd wrote the same way it would sound different (uh-saum). In Brazil the "d" and "t" (previous to an "e" or "i") sounds like english j (dj) and "ch" (tsh); In portugal always sound "d" and "t" like in spanish (not "ts"). Well there are a lot more of diferences but I can say them all... This is just the basic diferences. Hope I could help!

And I forgot to say... there are words such as Electronic that in Portugal it's "electrónico/electrónica" and in Brazil is "eletrônico/eletrônica" (difference of one letter and diacritic)... You know what's sad... Brazilian people in general know pratically nothing about Portugal and we, Portuguese people, know a lot about them... Sometimes they can't even understand us. =( Hope you don't got bored with so many explanations
