  • I really love these old videos.

  • Thanks a ton for this vid Koren! I just transferred 11 lipsticks of similar shades into 3 nice medium sized pots following your video! I always reached out to some of them and neglected the others! I now have so much more space in my organizer for keeping other things! You are just awesome!

  • where can you get the micro spat you are using?

  • can this work with any cream product? like concealer??

  • Wow! I didn't expect it to be so easy :)

  • Koren, can you buy those make-up pots wholesale? Where?

  • yeah you can get them in packs of 25, 50, 100, or more...

  • Oh god you're fabulous :D This reminds me of something I did when I was little; we melted down crayons to make candles I think? But yes, great idea!! lipsticks and crayons are one in the same really :p haha

  • can i put in a little bit of gloss after its melted for extra shine?

  • exactly what cosmetic counter did you go to?? and thanks for this video it helped me alot!!

  • I just did this last night with the coastal scents palette from your Christmas gift video. It worked like a charm! Thank you so much for these videos. Just 2 more tips: don't get the lipstick too hot, it will pop and splatter like bacon grease! And nubmer 2, if you are going to pour the lipstick in metal pans for a palette, warm the pan between your hands before you pour, a cold pan can make the lipstick dry too quickly before the liquid fills out the whole pan. Thanks again!

  • Can you do this with chapsticks too?

  • you can melt a lip balm and transfer it into a pot, i have done it berore, and you can add colore and scents, and if is really very fun.

  • Just wondering...how about using a glass dish and the microwave?

  • what if you don't have a stove with a flame?

  • you can use a tea candle or a cander burner/warmer

  • can i mix colors by melting two different brands and/or add pigment (like vanilla pigment)?

  • I used a candle warmer and it worked great. Placed the pan on top and put in the lipstick. When all melted, I removed the pan with tweezers. Thanks for making this video! I LOVE my lip palette! :)

  • I tried this and it was a disaster.

  • where can you buy that metal scrapper thing?

  • can you microwave your lipstick to melt it also?

  • there is so much lipstick wasted inside the tube! I hardly ever use that much, but once I got down to the bottom, and you can't get any more lipstick even though there's a lot left...

  • I love all your tips.

Lovely to see a pro at work! Your vids are so calm, well prepared and well presented. You have v good teaching skills,v v good. I have done this for years but in a much more chaotic way using microwave saves a lot of cleaning up ,mixing colours and great for getting the last bit out of favourite lipsticks. Some of them have an inch left in the tube after they seem finished.

I've also heated glosses up in microwave to get the last bits out and poured the liquid into pots.

  • The black shirt and the black tube ended up "clashing." although You probably already know that but I'd advise different colors of shirts or holding the tube up to somthing else when ever you really need people to see it or the lable. =]

    As always, awesome videos! ^_^

  • you're great, love your voice.

  • You have the cutest voice of all time!

  • just wondering can you do the same with regular chapstick also?

  • yes, you sure can.

  • are you philiphino

  • wow, im really amazed

i used to do the EXCACTLY same thing when i was like 12

i had the same jars, but i used to combine different colors

cool keep doing this XD i really love make up

  • lol, alcohol is your best friend if you're a makeup artist... must be a rough job! :)

  • Hi Koren! Great tutorial but I don't have a gas burner so I was wondering how to microwave it & what I should microwave in? Any tips would be appreciated Thanks!!

  • hey koren...wat was the name of the store that u got those jars from?

and do they have an online store...b/c i want sum jars and im sort of on a tight budjet:)

    plzz help!

  • its starsmakeuphaven (dot com)

  • you can also get jars and empty palettes from coastalscents (dot com)

  • Hi,

Sorry for the re-posts. i don't know why it's not showing up.

Just wondering, how do you sanitize a lipstick? thanks

  • its ok, i turned on comment approval on this video - somehow its controversial for some people. So I have to can out rude comments.

  • Hi koren.

How do you sanitize a lipstick? thanks

  • hey blankstate - i have a video on sanitizing makeup before use, if you havent seen that. For lipsticks, I dip the tip in alcohol, shave the tip by rubbing in paper towel a couple times, dip again in alcohol, wipe dry, then apply.

  • Awesome, I'll go take a look. thanks!

  • to save some time you can just scrape it into the pot microwave it for a few seconds.. or i use a hairdryer

  • Great tutorial, however I must have OCD, because all I could think about at the end, was all that product left in the pan!!!! lol. I would have my kitchen aid spatula out scraping every last drop out of there!!!!! lol

    Love your tutorials!!!

  • haha nanefy - yeah I usually scrape everything using a silicone spatula, like the kind you use in baking.

  • Yup those are the ones!! lol.

I've definitely learned a lot using your tutorials. Keep up the good work!!

    Ciao x

  • Wow thanks Koren I love you!! <3

  • Hi Koren...... i was just wondering....do u have to cut the lipstick to the fullest? or can i just cut SOME of it off and save some off it? i was just wondering...

  • nope, you can cut just some of it. and save some later.

  • thx SO much

  • Thanks so much Koren..I am still in progress of graduating from all your tutorials!! Still loads more to go..weeeee!

  • can we use the microwave?

  • Wow! Thanks for Sharing! 5*****!

  • thanks! :)

  • Wow! Thanks for sharing! 5*****!

  • can i mix 2 different lipsticks to make a different color? or can i mix lip gloss with my lipsticks?

  • yes! absolutely - you can creat so many different colors and shades that way.

  • Hi Koren! I'm from Malaysia and I've been melting lipstick for ages using aluminium foil that i fold into sorta a small tiny cup and i heat the lipstick till it boils. Thanks for the tutorial and the proper tools needed for lipstick melting. I am a new fan of yours!! Muahs..

  • hey sherliza! thanks! yeah, avoid getting the melting lipstick to reach to a boil next time you melt lipstick. It can change the color on you if it does, and it also alters the formulation. Just keep an eye until it melts to liquid without boiling. Happy melting!

  • Hey Koren... can I use a softer plastic pot that I can get at the drugstore?

  • just make sure it can handle the warm temperature of the melted lipstick.

  • hello,I'm in desperate need to know whats a good moisturizer to wear under waterproof foundation,or good for the heat that wont make foundation slide off,i'm leaving soon on vacation and dont have time to order anything,I only have access to clinique, estee lauder and lancome in my town besides walmart,i'm worried because i spent so much on makeup and dont want to ruin it with moisturizer,I'm leaving to Hawaii soon and panicing, haha really I am thanks!

  • hey Briana - as long as you apply the moisturizer at least 15-30 minutes prior to your makeup, it doesnt matter what kind of moisturizer you use. This will give the skin time to really absorb the product. Also keep in mind that when going to sunny destinations, SUNBLOCK/SPF is a must. SO consider a moisturizer that has SPF.

  • what kind of waterproof foundation do you have...where did you get it?

  • omg i just read the comment below me how crazy same question lmao!!!

    thanks! lol

  • Hey Koren!

i was really wondering about this .. i have a concealer stick the kind that comes in the lipstick tube looking thing lol

and was wondering if there is any way to melt that down in to a more compact pot also?

    thanks so much

    !!

  • hey kennakay - concealers melts easily, and you can pot it by using a hot air hairdryer. Otherwise, melting on stovetop or microwave works too, just make sure it doesnt come to a boil.

  • thanks koren u rock!

  • Hey Koren, can you do this with concealer sticks?

  • hey Noonie - yes, but i find using a hot air hairdryer is fine with concealers as they really melt easily. Try both and see which way you like better.

  • Love you so much for this video.

Does mac pro have an empty lipstick palette for sale?

    That would rock so hard!

I can't wait to get my membership. ^_^

    Jordan

  • hey Jordan - yes, MAC has lipstick palette, BUT its soooo expensive. It's like $26 I believe. You're better off using an eyeshadow palette and Pan the lipsticks.

  • I would like to know how I can remove lipglass from the tube and put into a pot.

  • hey choc - its best to use a Pipet. Most hobby stores sells them, and beauty supply stores have them in the nail care section. You wont find them at drugstores. So definitely check your craft/hobby stores first.

  • I have tried usinig a pipet but MAC lipglass is so thick...I was unable to remove any of the product from the container. I ask a Professor in the Science department at a University and he told me that I need to break the product down so that it will be thinner enough to remove from the container. Thank you for your response.

  • you are heaven sent you have the answer to all my questions!!! Thank You!!!

  • ah, so helpful!

    but i have a questionnn,

can you also do this with stick concealers and just put it in a little sample jar?

  • Stupid question could you add flavorings?

  • Yes - use the strong kind of food flavoring, where a small drop is enough.

  • any makeup counter have sample containers. just ask for some. Mac have them, clinique, dior, etc.

  • It makes me sad that the rest of it is kinda wasted don't ya think?

  • nah, when its melted like that - whats left in the pan is not really enough to cover a full lip. And its MORE wastefull if people just throw away their broken lipsticks instead of melting it like this to salvage.

  • Great idea except you kind of waste your money a bit because you're not getting all the lipstick as you would in the tube =/

  • hi koren! i have a question on where i can get the micro spatula you have??

    thx!

  • I got some of mine at a Chemistry/Laboratory Supply Store. You can also get Stainless Steel Spatulas from Cinema Secrets.

  • Thx! I am in AZ so I will have to look for a lab supply store...I have learned so much from your videos! Keep it up!! Your tips are awesome too! I will be starting a makeup school in April and I am super excited. Thx again!

  • they have them at art supply stores too! people use it for clay and stuff so you can find it at micheals or any other craft store

  • Is here anybody who knows

WHERE can I buy the Isopropyl Alcohol 91% in UK? I asked in pharmacy and drugstores, they have only 70%.

    Thanx

  • hey Dashee - I know some people found them in the UK - but 70% is just as good.

  • I know, you told it before, but there is 30% water and in IA91% is just 9% water. The water slow down all the proces and its not everytime good. I will continue in searching. But thank you anyway :).

  • yeah here in the US, most of our drugstore chains carry 70% and 91%. SO they are easy to find. Im sure youll find them.

  • hey enkore, do u kno if there is any way to fixe your lipstick if it breaks at the bottom? :( without putting it in a palette?

  • just take the lipstick lol all this work for... what? i like the video though.

  • well as we all know - MAC lipstick breaks easy, so this is a good way to salvage it. For MUAs like me who has 160 lipsticks, its easier to melt them in palettes than bringing 160 tubes to a gig. Stuff like that...

  • u have a nice house :)

  • can you do the same process for liglosses kind of like CARGO or NARS lipglosses in pots??

  • can you do the same process for lipgloss...something kind of like CARGO or NARS??

  • Yes, but you will need to add some clear lipstick of chapstick. You need to wax from it to mold the gloss.

  • ohhh ok. thanks so much!

  • goshhhh. i learn so much from you! haha. you have the most ingenious things to show us.

  • OMG, this is SOOOO much fun!!!!!

  • Koren, this is brilliant! I practiced this week using my old lipsticks from Mary Kay and NYC (no way would I use my MACs as guinea pigs! LOL) And it worked wonderfully! I experimented with using Revlon glitter mixed in as well, and that was a little tricky but turned out really cool! The other trick I did was to put a squeeze or two of Victoria's Secret lip gloss and mix that in to give it more moisture. Too much fun!

  • yeay! yeah the ideas are endless, and you can custom mix colors and texture!

  • if I don't have a perfect lip gloss but have a ton of unsuitable colors can i mix them together?? how about lipsticks from a different brand?

  • hey Shiya - yeah you can totally custom make colors by mixing different ones you have. Even different brands.

  • Hey Kay!.. Can this work for matte lipsticks as well, like ruby woo?

  • Sure will!!!

  • i just melted one last night...thanks for the tut, love!

i was wondering where i can buy one of those thing long spatulas from. cinema secrets?

  • yeah cinema secrets have them now. Otherwise you can buy them online, just google stainless steel micro spatulas.

  • Love your videos! Here's a tip for getting lippies out of the container without having to scoop them out. Put the entire tube in the freezer for 30 minutes, then twist the tube up, grab the base of the product and wiggle it out of the base. Super easy!

  • i got lazy so i just put the lipstick directly in the put and microwaved it for thirty seconds. it totally works and it's a lot less time consuming. and the finish is very nice.

  • too bad i am not a bride to be- i would SO hire you to be my makeup artist! Thanks for the awesome videos koren!!

  • This is so helpful! I've been mixing up my own colors out of random lipsticks, and sticking them in pots, but it never occurred to me to melt them down. I just melted down my first pot and it's great! A much better solution to get a smooth, consistent color out of my custom batches.

  • this tutorial is so helpful! it gives me lots of ideas on what to do with my quick frost pigment and those lipsticks that are not filled all the way! thank you so much!

  • i ove your tutorial!!

    it's soooo hepful!!

    umm, just wonderin,

    what color lipstick

    are you using? because

    its really pretty!!!

  • I just found your videos and I was wondering, could you buy the little metal pans (like for eyeshadows - I have seen them on ebay) and put the lipsticks in that and then put them in a pan palette? I would imagine it would be easier. Just a thought.

  • Absolutely! When I do weddings, I do that to make the bride's touch-up kit. I even pan lipgloss in metal pans along with lipstick. Makes it convenient for my brides.

  • Cool. How is the best way to find a makeup artist for a wedding?

Also I would if you would put a video up that shows how to conceal acne. What is the best Mac foundation to use that won't oxidize (for people with oily skin) and powder as well?

  • I suggest contacting your local Brand cosmetic counter and ask if they have freelance artists that do weddings. Make sure you get a trial done to see if you like the look.

  • the cream foundations tend to show less change when they oxidize. In general, if you have oily skin, and a darker tone, choose a lighter foundation color when oxidized matches your skin tone.

  • See that is my problem. I have very fair skin. I always end up wearing the lightest foundation shade.

I was told to try powder foundation but that has no coverage.

  • Have you tried the mineralized skinfinish? its powder. You can get coverage if you use a buffer brush. and the light - is really light.

  • Great idea! Can we add some of the MAC pigments to make this more metalic but at the same time less shiny?

  • absolutely! thats what pigments are for. To make the finish less shiny, just pat a littlepowder on your lips after you apply the color.

  • Thanks:) I like shiny lipsticks and lipglosses best, but I love metallic lipsticks that you can just see the metallic effect without the shine.

    Thanks for your help again!

  • May i say Brilliant ur a genous. Where would i be with out u.

    Thanks K <3

  • where do you get a micro-spatula?

  • you can get those at Arts and Science stores, or Labortory or Chemistry stores. I got mine online. Just do a search on micro spatulas.

  • thank you! :)

  • this is genius! my mom has a whole purse full of lipsticks, i should totally tell her bout this

  • please do!

  • I´ll try to mix some of my lipsticks to get new colors =P

  • I definitely will!

Oh! Just thought of you too.... check out these two girls with amazing amateur musical voices... MissBroadwayDork and Gweasley! I thought you'd appreciate it!

  • I have decided to melt my lipsticks! They take up so much room in my kit! And it will be good to see them at a glance too!

This is brilliant. When I do it I'll send you pics!

  • Please do! Look into using Bobbin Organizer cases, those are the best. (yeah bobbin like in Sewing Machines)

  • Hi, im Roxy (using my brother's count of Youtube xD) Thanks for the tutoreal, I think it's a great idea! =)

I'm from mexico and here we say "baño maría" or "Mary's Bath" (excuse me,I dont speak English so well =P) it's a way to melt things, using a container with boiled water and put the spoon over it to melt the lipstick without the risk of burn and spoil the product. Well it's just an advice ^^. And i just have to say that I like and enjoy very much your videos. Stay cool! ^^ See ya.

  • I like your hats!

  • couldn't you also scoop thin small pieces od the lipstick directly into the pao and then put the pot in the microwave? that would save more product dont you think?..i am gonna experimnet with that and get back at you..this was a great idea though i have never heard of this and it makes room for more lipsticks..i have sooo many if i melted them down i could org. better thank you so much!

  • metal + microwave= fire

  • uh..those were plastic pots..not metal..i already know about metal and microwaves..thanks.

  • Yes I have done that as well. Like FlashKid said, make sure it's NOT a metal pan/jar. The only problem I have with microwaving is -- doing it in increments of 5 minutes until its melted. You dont want the lipstick to boil or scorch or else it will change color and texture. And if you have a lot to melt, over fire is energy efficient, assuming microwaves consume a lot of electricity.

  • okay yeah i didnt think about the timing factor..i dont have nearly as many lipsticks as you do lol..and if i did that to my lippies as soona si got them in i dint think the timing tould be a big factor..thanks though..i love your vids!

  • love all your vids! .. but i have to say that there is alot of lipstick still left in the pan.. maby if you used the spoon you would have more lipstick in the jar!

  • well for the purpose of a quick-video, I did not take the time to scrape most of the proucts into the pan. I use a sanitized silicone spatula. It gets all the products into the jars, as long as they are still in melted state.

  • you are so great...seriously!

  • Enkore for President!! You have my vote! Great video, thanks so much.

  • You need your own network cable show. Love love love once again!

  • Hi this is such a great idea! If you go and ask for the pots how many can you get for free??

  • what was the store called, where you get the free pots used for samples?

  • You can get them pretty much every makeup counter. try Clinique, MAC, Chanel, Borghese...

  • Great tutorials, they are very useful and I am definitely going to try them ^_^ Keep the vid's coming, hope so see one soon, bye!

  • What I love about your videos is they are very technical and so different from the other ones we can find on you tube. Thank you this was very interesting.

  • wheree do i get the scooper outer thing. and whats the name? lol

  • It's called a stainless steel micro spatula. You can get them online, just look it up. You can also get them at craft stores or lab supplies stores.

  • thanks soo much!!

  • really great tutorial... make more!!!

  • Oh wow, that's awesome :D
