  • Very creative! Thanks.

  • They were not impressed. Nostalgia is lost on today's youth. I enjoyed it!

  • oh my gosh.this is awesome!! The Shags!! I have their cassette!!THANK YOU!!

  • I'm showing this to my high school students today. And also showing them that Halloween was not always under a foot of snow...aaahh, the good old days...

  • @deedlescan Cool! How did they like it?

  • They had electricity back then?

  • This is exactly what I was looking for. Very enjoyable...thank you!!

  • OH yeah one more thing. I loved, loved the footage with the leaves because of the cool vintage cars driving on the road behind you. :-)

  • I loved this video. I wasn't born around this time (not until '79) but my parents were. They were kids in the mid 60's (probably near your age) so I can totally picture them running around dressed up for Halloween. This video gives me insight into my parents time as kids. thanks!

  • Thank you, these memories are so precious.

  • I love the video it was tripping me out lol.

  • We used to buy our costumes at Woolworth's. Lake Forest, Ill. was a great town for Halloween.

  • We had fun back in the day and I bet all those Halloween costumes were made in the USA !

  • Thanks for the memories. These fleeting Halloweens are truly priceless.

  • thank you for posting this very much enjoyed it!

  • I didn't mean disrespect, lol I love Rob Zombie!

  • ha, i thought this was a Rob Zombie video for just a sec

  • @BBnanner I hope you meant that as a compliment! :)

  • Wow, such fun footage! I was a kid in the sixties, and this is a total nostalgia trip. Love the music too. Thanks for putting this together. Happy Halloween everyone!..

  • That was good. Like the coupe that went by in the video.

  • I'm a kid of the 70's, but I still remember when Halloween was strictly fun for the kids. Thanks for sharing the memories, this is a wonderful video.

  • OMG! That song is horrible! Who were the Shaggs? I love this little horror film and I was laughing a lot!

  • @junbug1029 All I'll say is that they were three sisters in New Hampshire during the 1960's. For further information, just look them up on the internet. I guarantee that you will find a LOT about them, as they have a cult following. There are quite a few videos dedicated to their music on Y**T*** too!

  • They were three sisters who formed a band in the 1960's. For more info, just search for The Shaggs on the internet. Thanks for enjoying!

  • 1:39

A "Scarecrow of Romney Marsh" costume! COOL!

  • @MiHiVidz . . . and would you believe I had no idea what it was when I wore it!

  • I was born in 1954 so I had some great Halloweens. We actually used to burn all our leaves along the street curb. It smelled great. To think that towns in the boston suburbs actually let you burn leaves. The air was filled with the aroma

  • @inkey2 I miss that aroma too! Last week while visiting family in West Virginia I watched people burn a woodpile, and the smell was both delicious and nostalgic.

  • these 21 century "added" noises ruins a good video. nice costumes. i wonder if this town gets all the fallen leaves that are shown in this video or if those type of trees have died out. this is the 1960s before all those ugly imported grasses came to infest lawns in the mid 1970s.

  • @The096757 Regarding the fallen leaves, you'll need to contact the Township of Clarkstown in Rockland County, NY to get an answer to your question.

  • @The096757 This was not a video, weren't these 8MM movies? There were no video camcorders in the 1960s.

  • @sylviekell Yes, these were all 8mm movies shot by my grandfather (except for the animated graphics which I created with Photoshop and iMovie). I had them digitized, so that they are now in the form of digital videos which I can then edit on computer and enhance with digital effects. I know, it's confusing!

  • This is too cute!!! Happy Halloween to all.

  • siriously, fuck the shaggs and their songs.

  • Wow! Well that is amazing. Both you and your mother did an absolutely wonderful job. Such creativity.

  • So cool! I was born in '61 - grew up in Flushing, and I remember this kind of Halloween!

  • @robertwmartens

The Halloween song set to dance macabre is from a record called "Halloween: Games, Songs and Stories" by Wade Denning & Kay Lande. I think that version is from Scar Stuff's "Spook Party" remix album. Pumpkin Tells is from an album called Halloween: A Book-Recording Set, by Lucille Wood, Marni Nixon & William Schallert. "It's Halloween" is by The Shaggs.

Sounds to me like someone downloaded a bunch of stuff from Scarstuff's blog and edited it together with fx and movie scores.

  • Absolutely love the Fred Astaire costume! It's so cuuute. Was that homemade or was it actually sold like that? (:

  • @gracefullbravo Thank you! I designed and constructed it myself, with Mom's help. She cut the coat tails out of black fabric and stapled them to the back of my Sunday School jacket. I made the cane by painting a dowel rod, my white gloves were Mom's, and I plucked the boutonniere from our garden. Only the eye mask and the top hat came from a store. That was my proudest costume!

  • @gracefullbravo You mean... Fred A-SCARE! Mwahahaha!

  • @Kooptroopa hahaha good one. Happy Halloween! :]

  • I LOVE THIS... halloween in the 60's was the BEST!!!!

  • just don`t wear them near hippies,it will give them old flash backs if you konw what i mean

  • this is awsome... so neat to see old style costumes.. brings back memories

  • kk this has always been how i felt halloween should be but so many scary guts and bad scary stuff now unlike back when they just had things like this.

  • Lyndon Johnson's America! This was like being in a time capsule.

  • Well done!

  • I loved this! And the cool old cars driving by :->

  • wow. neat vid.

  • Great job! I love your old Halloween footage! Ever since seeing this, I've had "H-A- double L-O-W- double E-N spells Halloween" stuck in my head. :0)

  • What video program are you using to do this with?

  • iMovie

  • u put a lot of work into this keep up the work

  • Amazing stuff here Robert -Rob Zombie would be proud!

  • Yeah ! That really put me in the Halloween........spirit ( LOL)

  • Love the video! What's the name of the first song you used with the lady singer?

  • Sorry, I don't know. I recorded it off of David Garland's Spinning on Air program back in 1990 or so, and I didn't catch the title then. You might try contacting Mr. Garland at WNYC-FM.

  • oddly frightening

  • Yeah, that's kinda like the Halloween I remember from the 1960s. And what a nice added touch with that classic Shaggs song!

  • Good stuff Robert. I love the Scarecrow of Romney Marsh mask @ 1:39!

  • That's me in that mask, and I had no idea of its identity until now! Thanks for the insight - Rob

  • I love your home movies! Thanks so much for sharing these priceless family treasures.
