Alternatively, station some really good Generals and forces in Ishiyama Castle, then get them to 'Ambush' all of Mitsuhide's units once the event triggers. This gets your men to the area much faster, and if you're lucky they'll stun Mitsuhide's units for awhile once they reappear. From there, you can just either try to get Nobunaga clear to a friendly castle or try to pwn Mitsuhide outright.
Worked for me a few times, but I was also cheating a bit then so I'd say it theoretically works.

あらかじめ二条御所を改築した上で周りに軍勢を配置した状態でイベント起こせばほぼ確実に信長横死は回避できます。
一度お試しあれ。
