  • does tom tom use any kind of internet service while on the road being used or gps signal has nothing to do with internet or data network?

  • @cirus101 nope it works even if you have no sim card since iphones have built in GPSs

  • @MsMaidon Lol. Do you have any roads to travel on? That earthquake was pretty nasty.

  • How much data is it using?

  • does it just "beep" for a speed camera location or can you use another setting ( spoken )

  • none of them are free tomtom and copilot are paid apps

  • When using the app, does it take up ur data usage for ur phone?

  • Great review. Simple, straightforward and to the point. They should give you commission!

  • Tom Tom looks good on iPhone, I already have a sat nav but on discovering this am tempted to download app to my iPhone, thing is I looked for this app but noticed that I have to pay for it, which one is the free one?

  • @Scottishgal78 unfortunately there are no free lunches :D. lol. The cheapest and best sat nav app is CoPilot... it comes in at approx 28 quid

  • @Scottishgal78 Copilot is awesome compared to tomtom. Copilot is easier to use as in it's more intuitive and offers loads of features that tomtom lacks and should have as a satnav app.

  • You gotta see this on my channel!!! Here is a new iPhone APP - the INFECTION SCANNER.

They scan a girl with PIG FLU or something. It's no JOKE!

  • very usefull thanks. Im just downlloading the torrent as we speak lol..........fuck paying for it lol

  • Thanks buddy, nice vid ;o)

  • so uhh i am really bored and need some action... Anyone feelin the same way

  • thanks for the review, mate ;)

  • no man its 100 dollars

  • lol - nothing in this world is free my friend lol

  • Mate which is better tomtom or sygic. Really close in my opinion?

  • Do the speed camera locations come with the app by default?

  • Yes.

  • is tomtom must pay?

  • @qAyyUm You could probably find it for free if you do a bit of searching around on google and the torrent sites. However, if your not keen on jailbreaking your iphone or similar, you will have to pay.

  • hillbillyaccent!

  • Does this tom tom come with the lane guidance? I've got the old tom tom with out this so i dont really need it but it's just a nifty little thing to have considering all tom tom comes with one nowadays.

  • Lane guidance has JUST recently been added via the TomTom app update.

  • hi , where can i download this gps app.. ?

  • I like the UI of TT. Navigon is still good but the UI is so ugly.

  • Windows Mobile has had this since forever basically.

Just get yourself a Touch HD or Touch HD 2 which basically kill the iPhone.

  • I have the HTC Touch HD. Great phone and I agree with you slightly, but I have to say, the iPhones touch screen is much nicer :(

  • There's no monthly fee

  • Peoples there is no monthly fees or any data charges if u dont even put your sim card in it the Tom Tom application will still work soo get your ass on app store and buy the application enjoy!!!!!!

  • NOO

  • does this cost data usage man?

  • or send paypal payment and i will send the link to download the software for you phone! i have uk and ireland tom tom and can give europe as well as usa and canada links. thanks

  • is there a monthly fee?

  • naa

  • how much does it cost?

  • Hi, can anyone tell me if this App does auto reroute for iphone? 3G or 3GS. I know 3GS has compass built in.

  • Hi artofoov,, yes copilot this does do do auto reroute, if you so took a wrong turn it will automatically tell you an alternative route.

  • you dont need internet. it only works with gps. i have on my iphone no internet and tomtom works.

  • Really you dont need Internet to use it? Does it reroute?

  • Its quiz night in glasgow...final question to win the £20 prize...what was "take thats" album called that had four words, the first 2 words of the album was "take that"....who knows the othe 2 words to win £20?

there was a pause for 30 seconds and then a voice from the back of the room said ..

    "ya cunt"

  • of course not. All the maps are downloaded and stored in you phone. And actually it will take you pretty long time to download the whole app.

  • no i dont think so ...

  • No u can use this with a pay as u go sim

  • Do i hav to go on the computer app store and also can i search the app store on itouch 2g

  • this wont work on the ipod touches. only on the iphone

  • Where do u get this cuz i cant find it

  • its on the itunes app store - if you cant find it, use the 'search' feature on the app store to locate tomtom

  • I had a quick question. Do you need to have Internet on your phone for this to work? and when i say Internet i mean like a 3g plan? because i dont.

Like for example say i took out my sim card and just have the phone would it work?

  • thanks, this definitely argue into buy 3GS!

  • For $99 why not just buy an actual TomTom? It makes no sense.

  • it does just jailbreak your phone get the app for free

  • Because then you have 2 different device instead of 1. Makes perfect sense. Makes more sense to jailbreak and get it for free.

  • Mal eine kurze einsicht in das App

  • if you cum to a busy junction and u get a phone call..ur screwed!

  • if i was cumming in a busy junction, id soon be in jail!

  • true dat

  • How long does the battery last while doing gps?

And does the Tomtom software work: with GPS or HSDPA / Umts internet? I am asking because it seems that GPS is free in Austria since I haven't been billed for using the nokia navigator software (uses definitly GPS and not internet), which I am apparently using regularily for two years allready. Now my cellphone is getting old and so I am considering to buy a new one (having a special interest on the Iphone).

    Thanks!

  • Hi. Do you need a data plan that needs to pay for access to GPS systems or can i just use any plans and use this app??

    im living in singapore btw.

  • Did you really just ask that? Lets think about it for a second.. How is your tom tom supposed to obtain data for your specific route, without a data plan and connection? Did you think that every route in the whole civilized world was programed into the app and phone?

  • acturly the app has the maps built in think a tom tom has a sd card of 1gb on k and irland and you can get a iphone with 32gb

  • are you thick? the maps are preloaded. all tomtom has to do is calculate the route via your gps signal, all done offline like a conventional sat nav. dont talk shit if you don't actually know about the app.

  • No no no. Sure the tom toms you buy in stores don't have a wifi/3g/edge connection, but they DO have a way of connecting to the tom tom servers. iTouch's do not.

  • No they dont. How would they possibly connect to a server????????

  • Put down the internets and walk away...

  • you're drivin on the wrong side of the road....hahahahaaha

  • welcome to the UK

  • hahha i know im just fuckin with ya lol

  • The real question, when's is it on installous?

  • Funny very funny ' you took that from my mouth i was gonna say it lol... i think the it will be available soon..

  • I would like to know how old the maps are that Tomtom are using for this App. I downloaded it over the weekend, only to discover that my house number doesn't exist despite the house being built 7 years ago. My suspicion is that they've used an old 'scaled down' version of the maps in order to rush it to market. My old Nokia N70 frankly had better maps, and they were installed 5 years ago. Oh well, I'm sure they'll update in time. I hope they don't charge for updates.

  • Hmmm good question, I havent seen any major issues with the mapping. theres a new development near my house which includes a new roundabout (which has been built about 5 to 6 months ago) yet its not on the mapping. could take a little time i guess

  • Thanks for the great review

  • good review

    get invited to lockerz!

    message me for an invite

  • lockerz?

  • This is exactly what kind of review I was looking for! Thanks!

  • Holy shit get on the other side of the road you're going to get hit.

  • he's in the UK its right hand drive there dip shit

  • Sarcasm retard.

  • probably wearing a kilt.

  • Stop being a dick. I think it's a kickass accent.

  • does anyone find that there is a few seconds delay when using this tomtom app?

  • sooooooooooo when is the docking/charger out then anybody know?

  • Why is the TomTom GPS working without internet connection, how is that possible?

  • Because the GPS doesn't use the 3G/WiFi signal. It uses the GPS locator. iPhones have them built in. Not sure about the touch, but I know you can buy GPS attachments for them or older models that don't have them. I think what you're referring to is at 3:13 when it says "There is no GPS fix right now. Would you like to use the last known location?" What that means is that at that particular moment, the GPS has not locked on to your exact location. Obviously, it will try to reconnect ASAP.

  • great review, i decided to buy this instead of navigon. mainly because it looks a lot slicker, faster and a feel tomtom will provide better updates.

  • does it have lane assist

  • @rdt1970

Not exactly. I've used an actual TomTom unit and it doesn't say which lane you're in, but after making a turn it will tell you to get in the far left / right lane should your next turn require it or to stay left / right to avoid upcoming exits.

  • thanks for info :) i used to have a a 3g iphone now have the n97 but the reason i sold my iphone was no gps! turn by turn app. So thinking should i get the Iphone 3gs or wait for the new one next year hmmm, iphone is so good coz of all the apps but hardware aint that great compared to the newer phone on the way Like Sony Rachel and the SNAP DRAGON series phones, guess i need a small yet powerful phone also just cant see why the iphone is worth £550 no phone is worth that hmm what to do

  • $99.99 in app?? it better make more girls give me head

  • Awesome, I wish there is a New Zealand version out soon. The weird thing is the location I'm living is not quite accurate with google maps, but on some location Google maps can be quite accurate.

One question does anyone know that if TomTom actually sucking up on your mobile data or what?

  • people says it works on itouch 2g does it?

  • Navigon is alot better....

  • no one wants to check that shitty website

  • Best thing i have seen from a scott :) i could understand you aswell :)

  • cheers :)

  • Thanks for this. I still think I'm getting Navigon now that the update includes even better features, but it's a close call.

  • Navigon blows m8, i just had a refund. The signal require for Navigon to work is so weak in the UK. I did a 500 mile trip the day after i got the application and maybe had a suitable signal for 35% of it, absolute waste of time !!!

  • ive been trying co-pilot for the iphone, i must say - im really really impressed. not tried navigon, dont think i will bother as its the same price as tomtom.

  • I have both Navigon and TomTom and as of this day, Navigon is way better than TomTom. For some reason, TomTom is very laggy.( I have the Iphone 3G)

  • i wonder how the battery fairs on this. You better have a car charger or you'll have no GPS after a couple of hours

  • POI = Point Of Interest

  • OMG you sound JUST like my uncle rizwan and he lives in Glasgow!!

  • get the app for free at

    iphoneappcracker(dot)blogspot(dot)com

    replace (dot) with .

  • Hey mate. Where abouts in Glasgow you from? I'm from Barrhead, I might get this when I get my car I'm only 17 il still need to get my provisnal.

  • Good, down to earth review mate. Couple of questions: can you ipod (and hence music) in the background, and also, how does the app handle calls/texts whilst on the road?

  • Yes, you can play the iPod while using it. And if you get a call and answer it, you can stay on the call and reopen TomTom and it'll keep going from where it left off.

  • Cheers buddy

  • I have an iPhone 3GS and I have purchased the TomTom application. Result: the application is performing poorly, failing to lock on to GPS reliably even when the Maps application has my position perfectly pinpointed. At this stage I think it is fair to conclude that the TomTom application is not utilizing the built in GPS effectively. Avoid this application until it is patched!

  • Once the TomTom car kit is available, it will boost GPS signal by 30%.

  • What's happen if a call is coming during a session of Tomtom?

I know the iphone would close the app but I was wondering if it's possible to open it again in order to follow the map and talking at the same time like with Navigon.

  • iPhone does not support multitasking *happy face*

  • Correction: the iPhone does not support multitasking for non-native apps. It allows Mail, iPod, Calendar, Clock, and the rest of the other iPhone apps to run just fine while in another program.

In other words, yes, you can play the iPod while using the TomTom, or other GPS apps.

  • Great review, nice accent too, makes a change! Art last a proper down-to-earth practical demonstration. I will be getting my local Nordic version (Norway) today. Thanks a lot for the posting.

  • your welcome :) - hope it was useful

  • so which on is better tomtom or navigon?

  • i prefer navigon. they`ll release a update soon... cool new features!

  • Excellent video!

But now i'm thoroughly confused. I dont know which to get, navigo thats currently $30 cheaper, or tomtom.

i dont suppose you'd wanted to do a comparison :p

  • im getting a hold of other apps this week, so keep a look out ;)

  • Looks like this app, like navigon, does not pronounce the street names where you need to be turning? That's too bad. Love that feature of my nuvi.

  • hi, i was wondering if the tomtom for the iphone require internet? , i know navigon doesnt.

  • TomTom does NOT require the internet. However, it is 1.25GB, I'm not sure how big it is when its extracted. Its almost like this app was intended for a 32GB iPhone 3G[S].

  • Nope it doesn't.

  • love my navigon. tomtom just looks like a cheap navigon fake...

  • I am thoroughly impressed by this app, so I will probably buy as soon as the TomTom Car Kit comes out.

  • navigon cost $30dollars less.... $100 seems like alot of money

  • The POI database in my area is very outdated. For example, theres a massive Tescos near us thats been there for about 5 years now, and it doesn't show up in their POI database. The app and navigation on it is great though.

  • Good review man you swayed me to get it. I was kinda on the fence I know Tom TOm is good, but people where bashing it in the comments on itunes america

  • Thanks for vid, gives a good impression of the app.

  • is this a iphone 3gs or 3g

  • 3gs

  • Does anyone know if this will work using the ipod touch, i.e connection through satilight ? please reply thanks.

  • As of right now, the app is only designed to work with the iPhone 3G and the iPhone 3GS.

  • i-pod touch does not have the antenna that the phone has

  • Thanks for making this video!

  • Great video, thanks for taking the time to make it. How is this app in terms of the iPhone's battery life?

  • Having the GPS on probably drains the battery quick - best get a car charger!

  • good first impression, thanks for both tom-tom videos. ignore sicko comments on first one and keep em coming, we do appreciate them!

  • Can i use this for my ipod?

  • I dont think the iPod has GPS built in.

  • looks like an awesome app

  • is that iphone 3gs only? because i know it has a compass i have a 3g

  • The app works with both the iPhone 3G and the 3GS.

  • Yea,

I was really hoping to see some features that would put Tom Tom up and above Navigon and iGo and Sygeric but it looks like they are all about the same

  • 5 Stars

  • Looks good. But not any better then some of the others that are out there.. I am going to wait until Tom Tom iphone has Text to Speech. Seems like it is one of the only features missing. Also I wonder if you can download celebrity voices like you can with the stand alone units?

  • Yep, I wouldnt mind download service packs which contain celebrity/funny voices. Hopefully, they will launch them soon. I haven't (yet) tried any other gps app, so I cant comment on whether this is better/bad than others.

  • If I have some contacts with their address entered, can I use TomTom to get straight to a contact by selecting the contact, rather then entering the address manually?

  • yes iftibashir. you can use the information already stored on the iPhone address book. Watch his first TomTom video and you'll see ;)

  • Ah, I did see the first video but he didnt go into the contacts section, and described it as being able to ring a contact to get the postcode without exiting the application - rather then using their address details already in the iPhone itself.

  • I like that TomTom Voice.. Sounds like KIT :)

  • Thanks

  • i really can't believe tom tom expect people to pay £60 for an app, when you can buy a dedicated tom tom for less than £100 and they have to manufacture the hardware! A rip-off even IF it came with the car mount...which it doesn't...

I'll be sticking to the native maps app.

  • Well, to be fair - theres other apps in the market (Navigo) who are priced at the same level. TomTom is the market leader and for them to price it at this is pretty good in my opinion. Plus, you dont need to carry an additional device around with you.

  • still feels a little anti-competitive to me, but i do get where you're coming from...although i reckon tom tom would sell far more apps with a price leading strategy rather than a premium one. Plus you wouldn't have to carry the tom tom around, you could leave it in the car lol..

Anyway, good review as usual,...not all uk reviewers cover as many day-to-day issues as i'd like...thumbs up mate

  • nice demo job thank you very much for taking the time!

  • wait so for this to work you need a tom tom device? How much does that cost 0__O?

and when is this in america?

  • just need an iphone and this particular application from the itunes app store. costs are 60 in britain and 100 in the US?

  • LOL i just bought an iphone 3g for 95 USD at a garage sale and now i need to pay more than the iphone itself for the app lol...

    jailbreak anyone :P?

  • Nice review but i would rather just buy a tomtom :)

  • lol u watched a 4 and a half minute video in 25 secs. nice lol. at 60, i think its fairly priced. canny complain
