Believe it or not, this sort of thing exists... at least where I live (which is Australia, the place that gets technology last, so it is probably sold everywhere). You could probably get something similar to this at a local provider. They are called holographic screens and have been around for a long time... in fact, my weight scales have a similar screen. The only issue is that the quality of the screen won't be as good as a backlit screen that is not holographic.

All LCD displays require polarizer film. If you put polarizer film in front of a monitor that is currently showing a picture, the picture will go black (or at least close to it).

Wether this is fake or not I think it can be done, When you take apart a screen and remove all the filters you have a (glass transparent) plate you can still see your programs if you hold a flashlight behind it. so if you put very strong leds strips and place them around the outside of the screen you should get something like this.

It's chroma key editing... u can tell from not only the missing start menu, but the distortion around the edges of the laptop monitor from the refresh rate.

Failure... your using a green screen sorta say... on your computer you made your background green, took a picture than used them and a greenscreen... look on the top left corner of the laptop... its like glitching

you guys are dumb, if he was using a camera on the front of his laptop you would see the perspective of the camera not your own, he probably just set his background to the green color they used for green screens and set it as a video he took of just the original computer screen playing the same video. and the first computer just has a background image of a picture of behind the computer, he did not use the green screen for the first computer.

@penguinbread he is using cameras that's why the colour differs from the view behind them there are camera just out of frame to the right and adjusted zooms to match distance and he's using software that can display live direct x video as a wallpaper maybe vlc player. the laptops and desktop screens are about six years old by the look of them

you can do that with webcam too

mirror mode: uses webcam on the back of your screen

transparent mode: uses webcam on the front of your screen

this means you can also zoom in or edit it :P

and 3d is also possible:

2 cameras front and 2 cameras on the back

and you can make 3d videos on YouTube a lot easier :P

I think the first thing that gave this away was the fact that you're using WMP.

Anyway, if you wanted to ACTUALLY make a transparent screen, you could remove the LCD from the monitor and have a hanging panel, but the problem lies in that you no longer have a light source (originally provided by the backlight). You'd need one bright ass lamp behind your monitor if you still wanted to use it.
