specifically, the trigger on my bass drum is both stepping the sequencer forward and triggering an envelope which opens and closes the voltage controlled amplifier. The notes change as the sequencer progresses through it's 8 steps.

it's a pearl rhythm traveler practice kit-

a lot of what you hear is due to my mic placement, eq, and compression. the drums don't sound great, but i love the sound of trashy percussion anyway

just in case you happen to see my reply-

in short, triggering is literally hitting something that can convert your striking energy into voltage (in my case it's mics and piezo pickups/triggers)

when the "hit" is converted into voltage (+/-) then anything that can take that voltage and do something with it is "being triggered".

Question, can I use acoustic drum triggers plugged directly into my mixer, and than into my computer VIA firewire and use software such as drum superior 2.0 to mix tracks? Or will I still need a drum module pre-mixer?

you need a drum module pre-mixer, because it makes your individuell sound. if you plug your triggers directly into a mixer and than in your computer you have the natural sound.

Thanks man! Actually I found a way! If you gate the audio of the drums, then a program like drum tracker will take the hits and process them as a midi file. From there I can use any program such as Drum Superior 2.0 for drum samples! I have been having good success with Drum Tracker!

i've been recording and practicing but i'm stuck in a dilemma. i'm not sure what to put out. what do you think? on one hand, there's the "sit down and listen" braindance stuff (of which i don't have on youtube) which can be up to 10 min tracks with very elaborate compositional structure- On the other is the "Solo interactive drum performance system"- the only problem with these tracks is that they're very short and more like sketches than finished pieces. Maybe a blend? i dunno

What's wrong with short and long tracks? Some of the greatest tracks of any genre are less than 2 minutes, while live marathon jams sessions don't conclude until hours after they're conception.

Take it on the road man. I can see you doing late night shows at a 10,000 person crowd. Festivals everywhere crave this kind of creativity and new sound.
