  • I have not sang it in years. He was a great inspiration.

  • I have not sang it in years. I think I could though, He was and is an inspiration to me. He still has a brother and a sister living and three daughters.

  • my grandfather taught me to sing sacred harp. J. E Kitchens, Alabama

  • @steelcitylead What a great teacher! Do you still sing Sacred Harp? The quartet sounds great- I guess the inspiration carries on whatever the style.

  • I absolutely love the portion where the friar (Dominican?) is leading that wonderful arrangement of Amazing Grace. "Shout for glory" indeed!

  • @85mello07

I can not understand how can you love this ...

    sorry

  • Can you upload each song in full?

  • @Blue8Red6 I'd love to but don't have time at the moment. The idea was just to show some of what the students learned during the week long singing school (and youtube only allows 10 minute uploads without paying for them).

  • Sad they cut the words, best part of the songs, folklore I suppose and not Christian as it were

  • @gtwentythreepaxilon See the comment above...

  • One of the best things about this kind of singing is ordinary people do it, often hundreds at a time. As a music educator I think the revival and spread sacred harp is wonderful. Music was never meant to be only a spectator sport.

  • @2bonk22 Yeah man!

  • Dear Tim,

The seed you have sown in Jaroslaw last year is growing into a nice flower! Please check my video response!

  • That's so great! Nice to hear from you.

  • @eref2000 Hey, I can't find your video response. Where should I look? It's so great that the singing makes so much sense to people there. We're looking forward to our big sing this weekend with seven visitors from Poland.

  • Strange. It's there - I can see it.

  • this is cool.

it was great seeing you in Santa Cruz, and singing along a little bit, really enjoyed it, All the best, Sam

  • It is thilling to see and hear this in Poland. A good way to learn the English and theology as well.

    Harpmover

  • This is really great. It's amazing that this music is sung so far from its home territory! If it's OK with you I'll attach a video response, one that has the tune 'Poland' on it. People who love 'Idumea' (and it seems they are many!) might relate to the sound and words of 'Poland,' by the way.

May this singing group grow and flourish!

  • this is beautiful, but I wish all the unnecessary chatter and walking wasn't there. :\

  • This is truly beautiful...

  • Tim, the owner of that bakery is one of my neighbours. :)

    Greetings!

  • Please say hello to her from me- those were the best buns I have had!

  • Awesome to see so many young people participating!

  • Thanks, Tim. I'll look forward to it. I love your train singing! It's on my favs.

  • Mr. Eriksen, this was just a joy to watch! Please come back to Ohio soon! If it takes bribing you with baked goods, that can be arranged! ;)

  • Like, uh...pie? I might go to Ohio for pie...

  • Awesome video. I know you're busy but any chance you can split the video and give us some full-length songs - Maybe even 300 on it's own, it sounds amazing from that clip!

  • Yeah- I'll try to post all of 300 or something. There may be a CD release of my concert in Jaroslaw, and it would be cool to include a couple quicktime videos on that as well. I'll get word out if it happens. Thanks for the idea!

  • Tim, this is awesome. Did you lead a singing school for all these people? I'd love to have a recording if one is ever available.

    Brad, singer, Columbus, Ohio

  • i remember that was one of teh greatest things what i do:) very positive

  • thanks for being with us in Jaroslaw, Tim. your concert was amazing!

  • Wow, lovely selection you've captured here--yay no. 300! It's pretty amazing to me to think of everyone singing in English--can't imagine trying to do similar, myself, in another language.

  • i remember that day and all of these songs. it was really nice(:

    and our bakery is the best! (((;

  • What a fabulous turnout. Please DO let us know about the first all day singing in Poland.

  • @chrristineq Poland Sacred Harp has its own Facebook page now They are planning an all-day singing next year. Keep checking the page for information.

  • Absolutley absorbing as always Tim. What are you doing at Grad school?

  • Wonderful! (Can we hear more of Idumea...pleeeease???) Good heavens! Is that a priest...in a cassock...??? A far cry from Gregorian chant, eh? Though, come to think of it, Gregorian chant in the original notation IS shape note music...of a sort...

  • wow..I'd love to get into this stuff.

I just have to find a group out here on the west coast.

  • Where are you in the West coast? I think they have some good singings in Northern California>

  • well I just found out that the Sacred Harp Convention for Northern Cal is right in the Bay Area here...so I'm satisfied! I'll get to one soon ;D

  • Zoe, hey, I'm so glad you found out about the CA Sacred Harp Convention; it's a great way to learn about shape note singing, and folks come from all over the country to participate. There's also sing every Monday night by the UC Berkeley campus (beginners welcome), and would love to see you sometime.

Check out fasola dit org slesh bayarea, or contact me directly, for more info. on the convention, and the myriad other Bay Area Sacred Harp singing opportunities.

    Tim, excellent vid, of course.

  • This is totally inspiring. One singer even brought in the fugue parts on 300! Sign me up for the first annual All Day Singing in Poland. That is not to be missed!
