  • Another point in favor of President Arthur not mentioned is that he was the father of the modern American Navy. By time he became president the Navy had fallen into a really embarrassing condition and was a bit of an international joke. It is unlikely that the US had more than three ships that cold be described as even semi-modern. Arthur secured funding from Congress to build modern steam powered warships made of steel and armed with the latest in rifled naval cannons.

  • I would only trust this turd to be Nickelmaster. Never should have promoted him.

  • I don't mean to be a brat, but they're playing Japanese music for the Chinese Exclusion Act. That's just a slap in the face.

  • One of his pictures reminds me of Weird Al Y. the parody singer who seems to get away with uncanny parodies of celebrities in our time.

  • Also, I would say that he is responsible for the 'Civil Service Exams' which reward merit over other methods of employing government workers. hm.

  • I had some journalists from NPR approach me about the D.W. and Arthur Cartoon on PBS in the early 1990s. There might be a connection between this Pres. Arthur and PBS.

  • I had heard of Pres. Garfield, but never have heard that Arthur was responsible for the Chinese Exclusion Act, and came in to power after Garfield's assassination. Wow.

  • @duanewong Oh, it says that Arthur didn't support it but Congress passed it and did so without his 'blessing.'

  • Well done! Finally someone got it right! Thanks!

  • very good presentation what video editor did you use?

  • He was known as "Chet" to his friends.

  • Great job! Arthur's administration was honorable and well-executed.
