Excellent discussion. I would like to emphasize the importance of being willing to diversify the types of subjects your willing to photograph in order to "feed your passion." I learned very quickly that my work with nature and landscapes was not going to pay the bills, at least not for the first few years. Portraits, commercial, editorial, events, food, architecture are all areas worth exploring to make your photography a viable business.
