On the main menu in this game if you press "options" , there's this setting called "extend", right under the diffuclty setting. You can chose between "NONE, 200.000EVR, 200.000 and 100.000"
What does this do exactly? I've changed it a couple of times but never seen anything different in terms of gameplay.
I've still yet to play the Sega CD version of the game, since it's hard to find the consoles for good prices these days, but do you think Double Impact on XBL and PSN has taken back the top spot of best conversion?
fucking lame that they didn't include Roxy while Double Dragon Advance has female enemies. They assholes on Capcom where probably just lazy and didn't have a fuck to give.
Nice review and you hit on all the major points. One note would be the removal of the 'Poison' character or female enemy is exclusive to North America/Europe only. The Japanese original Final Fight One has Poison still intact.
best FF port IMO, just one complaint i have. Industrial Zone 1 is replaced by the Slums theme. And instead of hearing it on the final level, u hear industrial zone 2
eh, this is my favorite version of final fight. ive tried them all, and the content of this one is better than that of the sega cd version imo. the high quality music in the sega cd version felt a little wierd, it was more like i was watching a bad 90s movie than playing final fight, but the time attack mode was a nice addition.
@badjab326 My biggest issue with the Final Fight CD was playing it AFTER playing Final Fight One and realizing just how off the gameplay feels in comparison to FFO, SNES FF and arcade. You can tell that Capcom had nothing to do with the Sega CD port. Also, put the difficulty all the way up, and NO other port feels as close to the arcade as the GBA FFO simply due to having 6 enemies after you at once with NO slowdown whatsoever. None.
@darknight068 I had the Sega CD Final Fight back in the day and I remember it looking and playing closer to the arcade version that any other port. The only things that were different were the odd color schemes and CD music. Probably have to play it again though to see. The SNES versions' gameplay had a slightly different feel to the arcade. The colors were better but some of the sprites were altered and not just the female characters. The game had an overall more cartoony look.
@JPThunder01 Yeah, but it was a launch title and developers were still figuring out the SNES at this point so in a sense we're lucky to get what we did.
@darknight068 Yeah, they should have waited a bit to bring it out.. Final Fight at 16 megs rather than 8 would've been better.. might have been able to include the extra level and Guy.
Speaking of GBA beat-em up remakes, the greatest version of Double Dragon is on the GBA. I recently played it and it is so awesome. If you guys have a review of it, I'll watch it.
@shalpp And the missing level is still missing.. the female characters were still censored.. it was basically SNES Final Fight with Guy instead of Cody.
The last episode was like 3 weeks ago and I have had other videos in the mean time. I mean honestly what's the big difference between a 4 minute Quickie on a GBA game (Final Fight One) and an episode of VGTO?
Also on a side note I used to only make VGTO once a month and that was it, now I do at least one a month plus game quickies and the podcast in between. so really you're getting a lot more stuff from me these days. :)
Hi, i would like to ask you 2 questions. Is This game better than Double Dragon Advance and what's the difference between the black American cartridge and the white European?
May I reccomend on PSP, although not strictly scrolling beat 'em ups, but do have resmblences - Metal Slug, Ghosts N Goblins, Castlevania: SotN (Downloadable from PS Store).
One of the unlockables I liked as well was the "rapid fire" option. it makes beating enemys somewhat easyer but on the same token the weapons become useless.
The alpha outfits were a nice addition because they also incorporate new dialogue sequences (that make no sense btw), but overall it just looks akward to see codys 1998 sprite next to a 1989 sodom sprite.
Overall it was a good port, but I prefer the PSP and Sega CD version.
I have to say, I liked this game, but after playing Streets of Rage all versions of this game seem pretty stranded. I have this game and it's still ok but I think there are much better beat-em-ups now on the GBA.
I guess I just think that Final Fight is overrated in general.
I dont Agree, I still own this and I play it to date, this is still one of my favourite games ever. Take consideration that this isnt a console, It's a handheld. It isnt going to be perfect, But it's pretty damn close.
I did take that into consideration. The only reason I said the Sega CD version was better was because the other (unnamed) reviewer said it was the best version available (which it is not IMO). Also I mentioned that the PSP version (which is also portable) is available most places and generally offers a better experience.
That being said I agree that this version is pretty good, with a few notable flaws.
I'd have to agree with your statement about the Sega CD. The Sega CD version was just so much better with the new additions. My only complaint was the limited color palette, but other than that, the added cut scenes and remixed soundtrack just blow every other port out there.

This is what the SNES version of Final Fight should have been, minus the crappy music, cut scenes and Alpha extras.

Lance reviewed that game for RetrowareTV. You can catch it on our website. (which I can't link here or else youtube doesn't post the comment lol)

Great review, Ben. Do you know why they didn't have Guy in Final Fight for the SNES? I was just wondering.
SAPSowash 2 years ago
Yeah I know. I would have gotten more into that type of stuff but we did the entire final fight series on RetrowareTV, so it seemed kinda redundant.
Lance talks about that in his review of the SNES games more. :)

But FINAL FIGHT GUY FIXES THAT DOHOHO

Yeah but didn't they get rid of Cody in that version?

they really need to part final fight 2 and 3 to ds or dsi

I thought this was an excellent conversion.
When I got it, I didn't expect much more than what the SNES port has to offer, but the GBA version is far superior.
Great graphics, fun gameplay, five characters, two player compatability....
The music is pretty much the only aspect that really suffered, but the sound effects are still great....
