  • Thanks so much for this video. I found it very helpful and inspiring.

  • Nice work. I see a future here for longsword-cardio workout videos! ;) Incidentally, although we don't have evidence (that I know of) for cutting without stepping with the earlier Liechtenauer material, there is plenty of cutting without stepping in later 2 handed sword material (e.g. montante) for which this kind of isolation and focus on power from the hips is essential.

  • Great drill. The isolation is a great idea. Over time, one uses less and less arm muscles and more hips and back to power the strike. I'm still not there yet, but one day.

  • This drill was part of my "recovery" after injuring my shoulder last summer in a nasty fall, too.

  • Nice Jake! We've (AHC) been doing the meisterhau as relay drills after a few rounds of push-ups. This means they do the stepping which for them has been good for getting the coordination of feet and sword ingrained, but I think I might give your no-stepping tactic a shot.

Sorry I couldn't make Longpoint, but between church business and thesis I was pinned...and will be for the foreseeable future.

  • @diaperlord Yeah, training with stepping is still totally the way to go! This is part of my recent kick on isolation, trying to get certain details right and then adding them all up to a more perfect whole, instead of letting the whole compensate for flaws in the details...the trick, I think, is getting an even mix.
