lol i wish people who produce these videos would get people who actually knew what they were talking about. Denphal is in reference to Dendrobium phalaenopsis... (biggibum). Not Dendrobium X Phalaenopsis.
Dendrobium Phalaenopsis (Denphal)- named so because of the long Phalaenopsis like sprays of blooms but not related to the Phalaenopsis species. Dendrobium nobile requires much different care - obtain a good book for reference.
@Mansio1..hey this works for your grandfather because Vanda and Phalaenopsis are in the same Tribe Vandeae. While this example above would not work becuase Dendrobium is in the Podochilaeae Tribe
I think i have exactly that dendrobium in my house. What kind did she say it was? it sounds like she says: denthal dendrobium but i'm not sure, any ideas out there?
@pad9 Hi there, When you said denthal, she acutally meant Den + Phal. It means that the dendrobium and another orchid called Phalaenopsis is cross breeded together. That is why its called DenPhal as Den is short form for Dendrobium and Phal for Phalaenopsis.
this lady doesnt know what she's talking about when it comes to breeding dendrobium and phalaenopsis....which you cannot mix the two since they are in different genera
i wish you could tell me which kind of fertilizer to give dendrobiums to produce flowers....ive noticed too the orchids on your back what do you give them to bloom a lot..aside from the light water and right temperature
@baby2003442000 19-31-10 schultz orchid fert only while growing, reduce watering and no food when terminal leaf appears, leaves should be light green and even a slight red tint on the edges(Denphals or D. biggibum) to indicate adequate light.
Also, I have read that there are only 3 kinds of orchids native to Hawaii, none of which are dendrobiums. There are a lot of growers of all types of dendrobiums in Hawaii though. Maybe that is what you meant?
How do you breed a monopodial Phalaenopsis with a sympodial Dendrobium? I thought they got their name because the flowers looked like phal. flowers and that the species that those types come from was Dendrobium biggibum.
why is she so far away that you can't see any of the plants??

The title of this video should be changed to: "Dendrobiums are making a comeback...and other random information".
