  • The one thing you learn about the midlands is, we love to talk!

  • Fooking hate living here

  • Thanks for the information about the distance. I really appreciate it.

  • i don't see why the accent is so important, its only an accent, every city has got one

  • How far is Birmingham from Wolverhampton? Thanks

  • @MissileMist not too far, about 30 mins by car.

  • 'It's a city at the end of the day. THere's always going to be crime.'

Not necessarily. At least not in Singapore.

  • Carl Spiegel and his owner, Fluffers.

  • I'm Irish and I spent several months in Birmingham on work placement from college. I have to say I loved the Brummie accent and the people in general. Especially the women! Digbeth and Broad Street were some spots for nights out!

  • I would say that much of this video has been based on the city centre areas. This is more of a commercial centre with staff who don't live in the city centre areas. There are not many people who know each other well over a long period of time, or know people well who work in the shops and stores. Every body seems to be isolated and don't talk to each other or even say hello to a stranger in a friendly manner. But if you go outside to the subherbs there's alot more people who know each other.

  • reported crime.. there is a lot of crime which aint reported.

  • Have to agree that Selfridges is a bloody eyesore especially being next to that lovely church; it just doesn't look right.

  • Lenny Henry's from Dudley , Frank Skinners from Oldbury , and Julie Walters is from Smethwick; don't these areas come under the Sandwell borough? Thats the Black Country not Birmingham

  • People still talk about the development over the last ten years; truth is the main development took place in the 90s. The city has been stagnant for a decade.

  • funny how they are trying to change the image, but they still find retards to come and represent us to the rest of the country. BCFC is the best thing about brum anyway

  • Every city has crime and dodgy areas, I'm from Vancouver and we are considered one of the most liveable cities in the world but we've got our fair share of gun and knife crime, hell we had a riot last month

  • I was born in Birmingham and im 16 now and ive never left Birmingham and i love it but the guy at 5.00 was harcore brummi lol Also the guy at 5.00 looks like he was filmed at Sutton Coldfield not Town could you comment back if im right please :)

  • @ThePjariss Hi, you're right some of it was filmed in Sutton.

  • @ribbonstring Lol, I'm going to the bull ring right now lol Byeee :)

  • @ThePjariss Have no idea what that guy said.

  • I love Birmingham. I used to go to a school in Selly Oak. Some of the best years of my life was spent growing up there. I went back to Indonesia in 1997 and left all me mates there. I'd love to pop back over for a visit sometimes.

  • I didnt know we had a reputation until i saw this! :| LOOL

  • These videos are really good, the intelligence debate is an interesting one anyway I guess, it makes sense that they would think we were stupid if they think our accent sounds stupid. Thanks for trying to disprove the myth!! I love brumtown and I try to support any new venture like the new Dreadfire comic book based here please take a look and show your support :) dreadfire. com! Thanks for these videos we really need people fighting the negative stereotypes x)

  • I'm from Canada and visited Birmingham for a short while last year - I thought it was a great place. (I won't speak of the accent - everyone in the UK sounds funny to Canuck ears. HA!!) The fellow at about 8:00 got it right - everywhere will have nice areas and sketchy areas. That's what living in a city means.

  • I love Birmingham and im a brummie and im proud, fuck the 1st city you posh wankers!

  • you can change the name Birmingham by Rotterdam and this documentary will do for Holland.

  • If there is any accent that makes u sound less intelligent, it's gotta be Liverpudlian

  • i want 2 c what people think of black country

  • a jew talking about how wonderfull place a market is LOL

  • First city I visited when comming to England was ... Birmingham.... Ace city ... but then Im a tad bias being a Duranie ;) Seriously though, Birmingham has produced some killer artists and bands. I do love Birmingham so hang in there .. takes time to change a reputation :) Luvs from Denmark x

  • This guy needs to get a life Birminghams the cheapest city in the U.K especially to buy a pint he's probably a posh "Chelsea FC" supporter who has VIP tickets SNOB!

  • I don't think Birmingham is bad, but you always get some vacuous tubby bint saying "I love it, best place in the world!" with a little too much sincerity...

  • the end of this video makes me laughhhhh!!! honestly, look at those people there interviewin about "crime and gangs in birmingham" no wonder there saying its not bad they clearly go in every night at 6pm haha. this vid is full of s**t. not one shot in this video is from outside the centre. maybe if they'd walked down the road a bit they may have caught some images of what its really like in birmz!

  • Birmingham is a dump ghetto

  • The only thing worth mentioning about this city is that white people are becoming a minority fast! The race riots are only going to get worse..but hey lets just watch eastenders..

  • great informative, fast-paced documentary! great stuff!

  • I love the whole damn scene of birmingham, fuck the haters.. i love the accent, i thrive around the population, IMO i wouldn't live anywhere else.

And the crime is just something you grow up with, makes you street wise for sure.

  • that didn't mention all the bands that have come from birmingham! robbert plant from led zeppelin, duran duran, electric light orchestra, UB40, denny liane of paul mccartney's wings (and the moody blues) etc...

  • @iamdanielcash Led zepplin were not from birmingham.Brummies always seem to include surrounding areas as the city like wolverhampton, west brom, dudley and so on.As someone from a surrounding area it really annoys me when people think i am brummie as i am not i do not even have a birmingham accent.

  • trust the fucking southerns to say birmingham is dirty, dangerous and we speak weird. cockneys, think they're better than the rest of england, southern fairies

  • You had to talk to the wrong people, why not come up to me in town, I'll give the best opnion of our gorgeous city

  • You haaad to dredge up a chav, huh?

  • I'm in NZ and have a girl in a class from Birmingham. She's the nicest person ever but I always laugh when her accents starts to thicken the more excited she gets. it's like she's singing at me!

  • Yeah, its no longer known as the ''Gangster city'' love (insert Brummie accent). However is now known as a city where muslim extremism and muslim fascist intolerant reign supreme. Ha Ha!

  • @BritishAirwaycaptain Everyone has an accent lol! you retard!

  • @dimebag4lyfe Oh really then so is that why when people ask me do you have an accent or you don't have an accent do you then thats just dis-credible junk well really no its not its even in the dictionary loser and I have a posh middle class English voice and sometimes I sound a little upper class as some have also stated so here today you are the retard as always, yet again I pity your lack of knowledge and small brain size, unattractive in and exterior not to mention your small you know what.

  • @BritishAirwaycaptain You HAVE an accent!!!! It's not possible to speak without somekind of fucking accent!! and if you are a pilot as you say why are you been a cunt on youtube? and just so you know...If i ever happen to see you in my city and by some miracle recognise it's the arse hole of youtube you're dead!! That's right, a death threat over the internet! Bitch.

  • @dimebag4lyfe I just can not help notice that your grammar is absolutely terrible and well your response was well how shall I put it to you disgraceful and very laughable a response like that should be and is considered childish also thuggish a common brummy (I would expect) like you does not make death threats to me. I will tell you sir that I have connections ranking right to the top so if I so wanted I could have you taken out.

  • imported shit. the shit

  • if we are thick what are you ,tossa

  • Comment removed

  • @mightytrustcrusher Where was you raised? inside a bubble in a magical land? Every city has the rough areas and our rough areas aren't even that bad! Im not gonna lie, you wouldn't wanna walk round their at night on your lonesome but it aint that bad lol.

  • @dimebag4lyfe Sparkhill. hardly a magical bubble.

  • majority of Birmingham is a shithole. Get outside the city centre bit-that-they-want-you-to-see and you start to see the post-apocalyptic wasteland that birmingham actually is.

Grossly segregated with massive tension between ethnic groups (often unreported in order to not "inflame further tension"), no fucking jobs, and its filthy.

"Visit Birmingham! See the wonders that are Longbride, Handsworth, Sparkhill, Northfield and Alum Rock!!"

Dont think that'd sell too well somehow.

  • ivem been in birmingham since 1994 and what ppl are saying is so stupid about the accent because yh i have the brum accent but i also have 5 accents u see dont matter were your from you can always get anuver accent its not that hard nice vid shows ppl what birmingham is like

  • @BritishAirwaycaptain

Did your misses run off with a Brummie or something?

i keep seeing your arsehole comments on Birmingham videos.

  • I recently moved to Birmingham for work and i love the accent and the people are so friendly x

  • I've never been to Birmingham but from what I can see it looks really nice. Almost cosmopolitan ya know? And that makes it attractive to me I think. I think it's obviously changed from the Industrial city it once was as have most if not all cities in the UK.

  • @whatyouchating You are correct it does not change the face but the fact is you can not change the voice, unless of course you fake a different voice which would be just mean to your friends and family by basicly saying your voices suck so much that I will pretend that I do not know you scum bags. You suck and have lost all respect by responding to me with such a pathetic reply. I did not get that "I sound like a twat" by what my voice you have not heard me you stupid ugly, brummy twat.

  • Wasn't England once like 99% white? What happened?

  • @merrimac291 Well, we started a slave trade, and we took over a load of countries with non-white populations and forced them to join our armed forces and used them for cheap labour. By the time we realised that was a bit mean, lots of them were living here and spoke English better than their ancestral languages, and considered it their home. Incidentally, I see you're from the US. Wasn't America once like 100% Native American? What happened? :)

  • i find brum accent sexy :)

  • Nice documentary, but... of the list of so-called 'Brummies', only Ozzy Osbourne and Murray Walker are from Birmingham! Same old mistake, confusing Birmingham, the Black Country, and the West Midlands. Comedian Jasper Carrott and actor Martin Shaw are Brummies though, if that helps! :-)

  • @thefactorymains But Birmingham is in the West Midlands, and he did say the 'Birmingham area'

  • I LOVE dat autoglass repair advert! sikk accent, its so funi and am frm Leedz Lol

  • seriously good documentary

  • @321styles thanks!!

  • @321styles Oh really now, were you high when watching this video because if you were it would most certainly explain why you wrote seriously good documentary when clearly this mess of a video should be removed and destroyed so to save other human beings the distress of torture from hearing the awful voices and faces that only the devil could of made really your comment is truly lacking intelligence.

    Captain Nigel Kroger.

  • People fear what they don't know. They exaggerate things aswell. Winson Green Prison probably is'nt that bad. Although I've heard of rapes and suicides. It's hard to argue that parts arent industrial. And the air quality is bad in places. But the thing is the people are good and people get on with each other. Wheras people in Kenilworth for example. Are abit racist. and stuck up. But who am I to judge that. I just have personally hatred of certain stuck up individuals.

  • Seems like people from Birmingham have to deal with the same ignorant assumptions people from New Jersey deal with.

  • i love being a brummie and aston villa

  • Many people from Birmingham still manage to become successful? Really?!?!

  • I'm in love with the girl at 8:20, her look, her accent and smile, I've been in Thailand too long, I need to come home and go for a pint and a chat with her, she's lovel...

  • dunno why brummie's are spoken about in this way. i just got back from living over 2 years in brum and i'm from texas. just reminds me of how in the usa the south are always slagged off, but when northerners come here..they are quite surprised at how we open our arms to them instead of slagging them off like they spend their time doing to us.

    big up brum nuts!

    <3

    samantha

    *texan

  • @szprice well said Samantha... : )

  • Brum is the best ;-}

  • birmingham huge

  • i lived in handsworth for a year and i loved it. brummies don't lett other people put you down, it's a great, vibrant city with lots to offer. handsworth is not exactly safe, but in my experience a bit of senibility is enough to be safe.

greets to all brummies from switzerland

  • Plus one more comment, haha, the violence/unsafe bit - what a load of rubbish! There's violence EVERYWHERE.

Urgh, this annoys me far too much.

  • Also, I'm pretty sure they picked out the interviews with the people who have the worst accents out of the lot. Great way to try and shame us, eh.

  • What the absolute fuck, really!

I'm from Birmingham.. and only moved out 3 years ago to West Bromwich. I do NOT have an accent. Yes, there are alot of YamYam accents in the BLACK COUNTRY, and some Brummies do have a Dudley-ish accent.. but it annoys me how people judge others! I think Birmingham is absolutely ace.

  • the older man with the head, he has a bit dutch accent ;)

  • stop sayin birmingham's in the black country cus it ay!

black country consists of dudley, west brom, walsall and sandwell, NOT BIRMINGHAM!

Black Country = Yam Yam (L)

    Birmingham = Brummies (N)

arr bay a brummie, om from the black country!

  • i think birmingham uk should be twined with Bham alabama because thats what i get in google everytime i google it lol

  • I love these accents!!! So lovely, y'all! (I'm a Texan)

  • HEY YA'LL !!!!! I'm from Birmingham, Alabama. From what I have seen, Your city is awesome ! Stay proud of your beutiful city !

  • im an english brummie.

    cheers my friend!

  • @windigospirit LOL Birminham ALABAMA USA is a shithole ive been there trust me.. just bunch of red neck conservatives! !!! Bush supporters!!!

  • @windigospirit How can yu say your city if ya from birmingham yu shud say OUR CITY

  • @Jamilapark they're from birmingham alabama in the usa, not the uk....

  • Birmingham HAD character then about ten years ago (1996/7) things seemed to have changed.

There s No more outdoor market. Its now full of your bog standard shops and same malls you get everywhere else in England

It has no character and is very unpleasant to visit.

As soon as you leave the train station Birmingham is grim!

  • oh n the autoglas ad is cool.

  • the beginning bit. how the fuck can you judge someone's intelligence on their accent? that's like saying the reason i got A's in maths and science gcse's is cuz my accent's half the well spoken of my mum, while i failed my english, re and history cuz the other half of my accent's yorkshire. bullshit.

brummies i'm with you here against these posh pricks.

  • honestly I miss the old bullring the memories I had as a child in that place that's one thing I miss is the old bullring market

  • aww these videos makes us look very bad :(

  • This video really annoys me though, because I'm from Birmingham and it just said that people from Birmingham are ranked with the lowest intelligence, why does everyone hate Birmingham really, its really NOT that bad at all.

  • Hi, I made the video and I'm obviously from Birmingham also, I was presenting some statistical data from experiments about people who are from around the country, so as to make the film non-biased. And if you watch the rest I've actually spent the rest of the video trying to prove that people's opinions and the results of that experiment were wrong and that Birmingham is great!

  • alot of the interviews are in sutton. thats not even brum. sutton coldfield west mids. they're obviously gonna look down more on birmingham its a rich area. let brum down man.

  • @mollehhhx agreed.

  • @mollehhhx As someone who's been there to work, socialise and more importantly watch football, I find it to be one of the shittist cities in the UK. Nothing on London, Cardiff, Belfast, Liverpool, Newcastle etc.

  • people still going to the market for fruit and vegs - it's got fair prices and good atmosphere...

but don't get your money nicked, haha

  • 4:20 rather ;)

  • Does he roll a join at 4:30? :S

  • I live in Birmingham, and I love my accent, I really don't see why people hate it, and it's not THAT much of a dump, just certain parts, but you get that everywhere.

  • I don't I'm from Hampshire and I love your accent. And on this test they did, its rated the most funny accent! So if you tell a joke ppl should laugh at you and not me :(

  • i love the look of birmingham the bull ring is better than the old one

  • Birmingham is violent especially the estates it is all very well doing up the centre but the serious social problems of labours precious multiculturalism are still there.

Birmingham is like all the big towns and cities it has been taken over by foreigners including muslim extremists spreading violence and drugs.

Many of the foreignes especially asians don't intergrate or fit in and keep to their own ghettos it is a dangerous national problem not just birmingham.

  • lol "the gangster city"

  • yh well trust me...the liverpool accent is gay, the geordie accent gayer and dont get me started with the mancs

  • re: How can brummie intelligence be ranked by 'bath spa university students'?!?? im pretty sure all the brummies with U's go to Bath Spa..

  • I've lived in in London and Bham. I dont think its fair to say Bham is a dump. People are suprised by how green it can be in parts. There is lots going on in the city centre. I've recently rediscovered the rag markets and they're legendary! There are good and bad parts to every big city. London is far worse for crime and congestio. Bham is good if you want the city life without the high prices, smog and rat race of the capital.

  • oh dear, Birmingham really is a dump. Even a video to make it look nice shows how bad it is.

  • Excellent.

  • lol at the guy making a rolly

  • cool video
