Vào khoảng thế kỷ 16, có một số người Việt di cư lên phía bắc lập nghiệp ở vùng Trường Bình - Bạch Long. Vùng đất đó bấy giờ thuộc Đại Việt nhưng theo Công ước Pháp-Thanh ký năm 1887 giữa Pháp và nhà Thanh thì Trường Bình bị sáp nhập vào nước Trung Hoa.
Thời gian trôi qua, nhóm người Việt này đã bị ảnh hưởng văn hóa Trung Hoa. Tuy vậy họ vẫn nói tiếng Việt và được công nhận là một dân tộc thiểu số tại Trung Quốc.

She does not speak very good Vietnamese. I can understand what the King people in China say. I am from Mong Cai about 30km from Son Tam where the King Chinese Living. They can regconise my accent and asked me if I was Vietnamese (they mean I come from Mong Cai)

My Grandmother said that these people are probably the Purest Jing/Kinh of the Pure. Given the history that they stay in China instead of migrating South with the rest. Not so sure how true this is but it makes sense

She does not speak very good Vietnamese. I can understand what the King people in China say. I am from Mong Cai about 30km from Son Tam where the King Chinese Living. They can regconise my accent and asked me if I was Vietnamese (they mean I come from Mong Cai)

It is monochord instrument which is unique in the world.
Monochord has origin from Vietnamese which has name "dan bau".
You can serach about monochord or dan bau in youtube to see Vietnamese play it.
I suggest you should see Pham Duc Thanh.
