The solo section is not quite like Fraser played it. He keeps a rhythm going on the open A along with the high G/D/F#/D and stays on the open A for the lower part, rather than 5th fret. It's a little tricky, but judging by your playing, I'm sure you could get it.
Yes Dave, you're not the first to point out the absent open A under the guitar solo! I wasn't aware of it (listen more carefully Blooter!) until people told me after I posted. I can play it now, but I think I'd be a bit obsessive if I did the record again just for that!
Ok, before I get totally on your bad side, you're a fine bass player, but you are playing the body of the song COMPLETELY wrong. I don't know where you are hearing all the notes you're playing but it seems like you're confusing some low register guitar notes with bass notes. When the bass first comes in around .53 it is simply an A note played 7 times, the 8th and 9th notes being F#-E. You are overplaying it quite a bit.
I should have pointed out in the blurb for my vid that I'm not trying to play it as Fraser did, except for under the guitar solo. My chorus bass line is not like the record because I saw no point in repeating it. So, instead of the A over and over, I used a more elaborate line that outlines the A, G and D chords. And then I saw no point in repeating my own bass pattern towards the end, so I did a simple improvised solo. This is not a teaching vid, just a bit of fun!
@Drblooter99 -And I think that is the best, coolest response I could have gotten. I LOVE that, simply because I was in an excellent '60's Tribute band called The Trip in the 80's/'90's and we did everything note perfect. Nothing wrong with that mind you, but it is so refreshing now to hear people's own takes on classic songs, as long as they're good of course, and yours is. Nice job, keep it up.
@Drblooter99 The only Trip things you will see are s few BADLY recorded and badly video clips from our first reunion show in 14 years, from July 2010. If you type in Cafe 322 The Trip you will see this HORRIBLE sounding versions (not us, the recording) of some of our stuff. Not, then guitarist is a recovering cancer patient, could barely play and that we had NO rehearsal. This was all from memory.
@Drblooter99 and great fun it is too,we do this song and i cover the cowbell in the non bass parts.in future i will incorporate some of your bit in too.thanks fella
Sorry, I can't do tab. The bass under the guitar solo is pretty much like the record, but the chorus is improvised to reflect the changes (A G D) more than Fraser does on the record.
Hey DR. Thats cool, nice low end just like andy's gibby. a classic bass line of a classic song that i love playing when i get the chance. well played DR. all the best.
How do you like that bass, it has great tone but how does it play?

This is just messing about, improvising a lot.
My other version of ARN is fairly close to the record's bass line.

Well, thank you Matt! -- I guess that's the best, coolest response to my cool response that I could have gotten.
Any chance of me hearing The Trip on Youtube?

Wish you'd turn the bass up and the take down. It's a little hard to hear you play. Good job otherwise.

@voodooacrobat
Thanks for your approval, but I don't get the bit about turn up the bass -- all you can hear is my bass! Fraser's bass is completely obscured.
