Come 1967, Pink Floyd made a career out of it but , although I likle Syd Barrett's early work in particular, I like The Doors as a band more on the whole for their country rock / blues beauty and guts and classic pop/rock tightness.

Of all major bands, The Beatles (with Tomorrow never knows) and The Byrds (with the more jazzy Eight miles high) probably deserve most credit. Yet 'psychedelia' is such a loose term that can apply to very loose music or generally tight music with a spacey feeling that you could even say that Jim Morrison invented it with the 50s-ish mood of Moonlight Drive. It's a state of mind.
